$7/Month for Life Unlimited Usenet 50 SSL Connections + FREE Online Storage

72

It looks to be like a one day Christmas sale but it might get extended.

$7.00/month for life!
Unlimited Speed • 50 SSL connections
+ 760+ days binary retention
+ 1,265 days text retention
+ 99% completion rate

Also features a free 30 GB Online Secure Storage

This unlike ThunderNews has all servers available and uncensored even payment method is PayPal. I just tried it and the speed is not too bad. Setup is instant and easy as well. If you guys think ThunderNews did not impress why don't give this a try with $2 more. I think you can cancel anytime if it's not satisfactory.

  • I believe the policy is to keep referral links in the text and make the actual link a non-referral link. I could be wrong though.

Thanks and noted. Main link is not referral now.

  • You should post none affiliate link too.

  • Wouldn't bother with anything other than the $11 Astraweb deal.

    • Or the $96 yearly deal!

    Just for comparison

$55 gets you 15 months of hotfile HTTP downloading. Thats $3.60 a month.

I prefer it to usenet, but I know people that prefer usenet too.

    • I use a combination of torrents, usenet, RS (and other similar sites)

      there isn't much I can't find :D

      • I found I could find more on RS/Hotfile, simply because of all the community uploads of obscure things.

Usenet is useful for recent scene releases, and not much else in my experience.

        • Heh so true. I actually use a block package for usenet because I don't end up using it much. Everything is available by RS/torrents.

        • I recently bought 100 gig with blocknews and my plan was if I liked it to then get a yearly unlimited deal for $96 or something. But honestly Im pretty disappointed that a lot of the stuff I couldnt find on torrents I still cant find on usenet. The main advantage of usenet for me is that the download speeds is much much faster than torrents but I don't think its so good for finding rare stuff. Just to make sure Im not doing something wrong, is NZBmatrix considered the best NZB search site? Is there any other sites better to find rare stuff?

Torrents typically have usenet beat in terms of range of files available.

But usenet has the speed and privacy advantages, especially if your ISP has a local mirror =)

I love being able to blow through my remaining quota each month in the last day just by pulling down ten's of gigs of data at will.

      • what's RS?

        • rapidshare

  • Apparently Newsdemon is a reseller of the same servers as what ThunderNews used (Highwinds).

According to some people on NZBmatrix there is a hidden quota before you get throttled on the unlimited accounts.

  • Lol. Always funny when people say heaps of stuff is 'missing' on UseNet. Try not relying on manual index sites, "a whole new world".

Music is the one thing that might not compare, but only slightly.

If you don't download much (like me), Astraweb's $10 for 25 GB or $25 for 180 GB might be better value. The data is prepaid and never expires. 25 GB would last me quite a long time so for me, it's better value than paying $7 per month.

    • +1

    • That's what I use :) I'm currently on a 25GB but I think I'll add 180GB Next time so I won't have to worry about it for awhile.

  • I suppose UseNet would work for folks, whose ISP's charge for data uploads (compared to torrents, which try to share your downloads).

From this UseNet vendor's web site, I don't see how to get the "2 weeks free" (per front page offer), ie, without buying a month of service.

Would we have to use their newsreader software?

What newsreaders (particularly, Open Source) do OzBargainers like (& why)?

Is there any web site that compares this service with others?

Are there any free services left, that might let us see what's actually (or likely to be) there?

    TIA

    • No.
      Sabnzbd / alt.binz .
      Google/ask people.
Yes, but you get what you pay for.

  • Very unethical marketing, and borderline scam. Definitely not a deal.

As soon as they started to receive orders for the $7 'offer' mentioned here they increased the cost to $19.95/month.

If you want the 'Free 30GB Storage' in this deal, you must register a second credit card as 'Backup' (they then charge a $5 onto the card)

And finally - they don't allow you to remove your original credit card details you paid the $7 with.

Very glad I used a prepaid visa.

    • If they're keeping credit card details, I agree! Bad news!

Don't they accept payments via PayPal or the like?

(On the 1-day sale, that's fine; lotsa local businesses call it a Boxing Day Sale & feel fine pushing prices back up the very next day…)
