  • good to buy the current model before the new hardware iteration comes in ;)

keep it non-updated if you want the goodies

    • +8

Genuinely curious what you mean. Care to shed some light onto it please?

      • I guess he meant firmware update not hardware upgrade.

Most likely the current firmware has loopholes to exploit and can get homebrews software/pirated games installed.

        • More than that, the current hardware version is likely to have some non-patchable flaws that will be corrected in the next version, or even the next manufacturing run.

        • @voltagex: yeah firmware 5.0 shows new hardware revision incoming, all current switches should be good to go for piracy and homebrew though forever

        • +3

@voltagex: Correct. The exploit discovered by fail0verflow can't be patched on the current hardware.

          @donkey:
Just don’t do piracy. Ever. Or you give the real homebrew community a bad name.

        • @marcoostini rlor:

Someone's gotta archive the games, and more importantly the title updates.

    • -1

      Could you please elaborate further?

      • +1

Some people data mined one of the switch's updates and found references to a new version or something. Nothing was confirmed.

        • +2

          Care to elucidate further?

        • @Diji1:
It was kinda an old (clickbaity) story and googling found a more recent story that states that there won't be any new versions of switch this year Forbes

        • @DrVik:Not a new 'version' but a minor hardware update to fix the bootrom exploit. 'Mariko' it was called in the 5.0 update.

    • Holy shit! I hope we get vlc ported, and glad I didn't pull the trigger on Lla lenovo tablet yet!
Is there an equiv to 3ds guide and wiiu guide?

      Edit: found it

  • +1

Not 100% sure but fairly certain it's just for one day, in line with their current Easter sale

  • Don't forget the extra 5% off coupons :)

    • +8

It says excludes Nintendo Switch Consoles in the T&C's :(

      • Ahh bugger…didn't see that..

        • +1

at least 5% apply to the $39 if people do want one. save $1.95 lol

    • What is this coupon, i cant find anything on it anywhere?

      • It was emailed to subsribers for their easter sale and was able to be used on the cheap Sony headphones the other night - here's a link

        • Ah thanks!, diddnt tick the box to sign up to their emails heh, was wondering what this magical coupon everyone is talking about but not giving it

  • +1

Wow, I post a comment yesterday under the Sony headphone post "hope jb bring back 399 switch anytime soon" it just happened within one day. My goodness. got one with the game. not sure if i will play, but….

    1. Buy 5% off discounted Woollies giftcards from CashRewards.
    2. Buy $400 worth of JB Hi-Fi giftcards at Woollies.
    3. Buy console at JB with said giftcards.
    4. Relish in the $380 you've just spent on a Switch.
    • No JB Hi-Fi gift cards available via Woollies when using CashRewards right now…. What a bummer

      • You mean can't buy JB Hi-Fi physical giftcards using Woolworths e-giftcard in-store?

      • You can buy the ultimate teens gift card which includes JB Hifi, i've done many times

    • I'm sure the best thing you could do here was accumulate more points with Amex @ 3 points per $1 spent.

    • Buy 6% off JB HiFi cards from RACQ Rewards, get switch for $376

    • Hey silverrat23 or anyone else who has experience with the above process,

Are the gift cards from CashRewards instant?

I'm hoping to get a Switch with a heap of games and accessories (almost $1000 total) and want to minimise cost. I know the Switch deal is for today only so want to know if it's safe to pull the trigger on such a big gift card purchase.

Would it raise concerns at checkout when buying so many JB gift cards at Woolies?

Or…given I'm spending that much, do people think I would be able to negotiate a better or equivalent discount? The total would already be price matched to best prices available.

Edit - Checked CR website, egift cards take up to 48 hours to deliver, so not worth the risk

      • +1

Depend where u are going to get all your games. There is no such retailer always cheapest. Even for jb HiFi. There was 15% off gift card on eBay before.stock up at least at that rate if you want to minimise cost.

About Woolworths gift card. I buy e gift card almost every week. Normally it only take 4,5 hours.

        • Will try to buy everything from JB in one transaction for convenience, but will price match every game/accessory if cheaper elsewhere e.g. Bomberman is $57 at EB ($89 at JB). Have started to put a spread sheet together haha

I also have the 5% off code for JB but I know the Switch console itself won't get a further discount.

      • +1

You can't really negotiate a deal with the Switch and games at JB, my local JB retailer told me that even they don't get discount on gaming consoles/games. Probably because the margins are low like Apple products.

My suggestion is if you can find a Target store that stock Catch gift cards at 20% off, to get everything at COTD. However, as people have pointed out it's probably really hard to find anymore gift cards now (unless you phone ahead for each Target store?).

  • +1

Anyone with RACQ, can get JB gift cards for 6% off.

    • Also can go to EB and price match if it's convenient because you get 7% off GC's there through RACQ.

    • Thanks, just got one for $376 using RACQ JB Gift Cards. JB is 6% off but EB gift cards are 7% off if you can get them to price match.

  • If you used the 20% off catch gift cards at Target, you could get the switch for $335 at catch of the day.

    • How to do it ? buy 4 $100 gift card and 20$ gift card?is it can use 5 gift card for one purchase?
and is it can got tax refund ?

      • +1
        • Thanks ! I hope the gift card in stock when I go to target tomorrow

        • +2

@Alitoleah: make sure you buy more than $420 worth of gift card. You may need to pay extra for delivery if you are not their member.

        • @ce5himm:

Catch Chat tell me only can use one gift card per purchase.
          So it become impossible now

        • +1

@Alitoleah: brought 5x100 on eBay and transfer to 1x500 on jb website.

        • @Alitoleah: Umm…I'm pretty sure you can use more than 1 gift card per purchase unless they changed it in the last 2 days? I used 11 gift cards on Wednesday to get the Switch and it worked fine. Other users have reported same thing.

        • @blob2004:

When I check out choose gift card, I only can find redeem button. I Can’t find apply more options is it same when you purchase it?

        • +1

@Alitoleah: I think you can use more than one gift card in one transaction. Just choose add another card

        • +1

@Alitoleah: When you check out, once you redeem one gift card, there will be an option to add another payment method below. Then you just keep adding gift cards until the balance reaches zero.

        • @blob2004:

          Thanks you.

    • Pretty low chance the gift cards will still be in stock right now. I visited 2 targets yesterday and they were all gone.

      • Catch Chat tell me only can use one gift card per purchase.

So maybe someone is tell a lie…

        • I thought they always say treat gift cards like cash? Since when you are only allowed to pay by cash with certain number of notes?

        • +1

If you are really skeptical, why don't you buy two gift cards first, go online to see if they let you put in more than 1 gift card. If they do then go out and buy the rest.

Unless they changed the site in the last two days they have allowed unlimited gift cards per order. So Catch chat is wrong (unsurprising, as they have told people different things before).

  • Online only or also in store?

    • +1

Just bought one in store. I didn't even have to ask for a price match - it was automatically 399. They have a games sale on now so picked up Mario Odyssey for $69 too.

  • +1

Big W can do price match and if you making the payment via gift card, another 5% save

    • never seen that? what states that in?

  • Man just bought from amazon 3 days ago.

Oh well stardew Valley is sick

    • +8

      Hope it gets well soon.

    • +1

As it is on sale at Amazon right now then you might be able to get the difference refunded. I have heard them doing it in America and it can't hurt to try.

  • Churn your mobile to Telstra at jb, get the $150 or $200 gift card

  • +1

$379 if you use the entertainment book 5% off e-gift card.

  • sure there was a reason for when it was edited FREE shipping at AMAZON was omitted from the header…

  • Remember to use the Jb 5% off coupon for games & accessories (shame it excludes the console).

  • +1

I highly recommend everyone pick up Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

I know, it's surprising, but it is a very nice game with good strategy to it. It's also quite a good game for wanting to play undocked, as it is turn based and you don't need perfect concentration.

  • Dammit I finally got tired of waiting for somebody to do a discount and just bought one last week from JB for $459.

Any way I can get the difference back from them?

    • Amazon has had it for $419 for a while.

And yes, JB will refund you the difference if you bought it last week, but you'll have to go in today as I'm pretty sure this price is for one day only. You can grab an extra game or two with the savings!

      • Really? do you know how long they will refund the difference for? (assuming the discount was still going to another week for example)

I'll grab my receipt and head out to that JB today. I want my $60 back.

Edit: Just called the brookvale store. They said 2 weeks no problem

        • Yeah, if the price is there in a week you'll be good, but I'm pretty sure it did in the email that it ends tonight. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If you can't go in today and want to play it safe, you can buy the identical switch online for 399 and return the new switch with the old receipt. Only of you're comfortable with that

        • @CaptainNewspeak:

No stress I popped in and got my $60 refund today. Cheers mate.

  • +1

I have a 3 month old PS4 pro that I'd be keen to trade someone for a switch.

  • Price back to 449. At time of posting Amazon au is still at 399

  • Anyone with any luck getting JB HiFi to sell them a console at $399 in the last few days?
