[WA] Free Admission for Kids under 12 at Rottnest Island - Saves $6.50 a Day Visit or $8 for an Overnight Stay

70

New savings have been introduced for Rottnest holidaymakers, with island admission fees waived for children under 12 for the next six months.

All Rottnest visitors pay a State Government admission fee — or landing fee — to help fund conservation work on the island and to provide and maintain facilities.

For children under 12, this fee is $6.50 a day visit and $8 for an overnight stay.

But from Tuesday, the fee will be waived and ferry ticket prices should be reduced accordingly.

The free admission for children will run until September 20. Adults will continue to pay $18 for day visits and $24 for overnight stays. Children under four are always free

So it only costs an extra $1.50 to stay overnight there… that's cheap…

Not quite Oct 2018. Why not just say 20 Sep in the title?

  • I'll probably have my Western Australian residency revoked for saying this but Rottnest is very expensive and very boring.

    Note admission fee is $24/DAY/person

Ferry fare for extended stay weekend $99/person

Booking.com lists 2 places to stay:

    Hotel Rottnest $149
    Karma Rottnest $225

What to do when you get there:

    • Have a drink at pub.
    • Eat very expensive food.
    • Go swimming at The Basin, pool in reef.
    • Ride very expensive rented bicycle to West End.
    • Talk to quokkas.

    That's it.

If you want Rottnest experience without expense:

    • Go to Hampton Arms pub in Fremantle which is similar to pub on Rottnest.
    • Go swimming in reef pools at Mettams Pool or Yanchep Lagoon.
    • Walk or ride along coastal path from Burns Beach to Ocean Reef boat launching facility to replicate visiting limestone cliffs around Rottnest.
    • See hundreds of Kangaroos at Pinaroo lawn cemetery.

Or go to Bali, which is only 3.5 hours away for a vastly more interesting and cheaper experience.

PER to DEN $250 return; less when on special

Would never go back there again if they paid me…

It's just an open sewer full of bogans…
