  • Can anyone recommend a decent cheap 7.1 receiver to use with this set?
Or is the cost / benefit 5.1 vs 7.1 not worth it?

  • Would it be worth upgrading from the Logitech Z5500's to these speakers and the PIONEER - VSX520 receiver? I would use it mainly for 360 games and watching movies, and would like to at least retain the level of bass the Z5500's sub puts out. Cheers.

    • +1

totally not worth it given how expensive the z5500's already are. Stick with them… Of course you'll get an improvement by using a dedicated receiver with higher wattage but unless you're an avid audiophile (or have cash to burn) the increase in sound quality is not a quantum leap ahead of the z5500 and not worth the extra outlay.

      • Shame, would like to replace my 5500s at some point for cheap but I don't want to replace them for some minor differences :( My on/off button has completely stopped working so I have to rely on the remote signal :P

      • Thanks. I've had the Z5500's for about 5 years, they still work fine, although the rear left seems quieter than the other channels for some reason; and I haven't tried to isolate whether it's the speaker, wire, or the head-unit yet.

  • +1

damn bought this two weeks ago at $299…does bing lee have that 30 day price gaurantee thing like Harvey Norman and Good Guys ?

As for speakers, they a great buy not the most powerful and very flat for music but for gaming their good and for movies their adequate. Its not high end stuff but its value for money speakers.

also if anyone wants speakers stands for the rears I picked up some $29 BASE ones from Target which are on sale this week in current catalouge.

i have to thank you for this….an excellent find

    Only 580 units left people!

    • Only 400 left now

  • is it free shipping BEFORE tomorrow or can I get it tomorrow as well? I can't get to the shops to compare until tomorrow.

    • Coupon code will expire tomorrow night

  • Couldn't help myself…bought one.
    Awesome deal me thinks. :)

    • Enjoy ur new speakers. Will be shipped shortly

      • hi, kridp, i signed up for the newsletter for the 5%off code but it is invalid when applied to my shopping cart. Could u explain why?

        • I just tested it and its working. Are u trying to use any other code with it?

        • That's the same code I tried to apply, but didn't seem to work going from site to paypal, I was told by Barry on phone that I couldn't use that code it on a super deal.

        • It works. You need to register first, but the saving is not much as you can't stack it with the free shipping code. Work out to be $246.55 delivered. Very tempted but have to fork out $300 for a receiver as well, argh…. how is this compared to the Edifier S550 as the speaker housing is MDF vs metal.

        • Think I got a little bit of a run around from Barry, I've had other stores have no issue with paypal refunds or part refunds.

  • If anyone got a receiever with this as well (eg RX367) what sort of deal could you get?
I'm sure there should be a discount in there for purchasing 2 things together!

    • Hi Yada
We are out of the 367. Sold the last one. More stock in the new year

  • If only the rear speakers were wireless…

    • We have other wireless units Paradox. Check out our range

      • +1

Nothing that can compete with this price though. Anyway, I'm not complaining, great price for these speakers anyway :)

  • +1

Just picked up mine in person from the head office center for $220 (ie 12% off).

Speak to "Tao", and mention "Yenda Lee" is your Auntie to get this price!

    • +7

We will ask for proof of the relationship and may ask for a dna sample as well in store.

      • +1

        lol

      • +2

Need to be a Chinese or Mixed to get this deal then.

But really if your Auntie is Yenda she would have given you for free for Christmas.

        • How would she fit it in the red envelope? :o

    • +1

Can't you ask your Auntie Yenda Lee to start a store in Victoria as well. There won't be much competition from Hardly Normal :)

      • We ship online to Melbourne but thank you. Noted :)

  • +2

bought it from bing lee prospect for $220 to replace my yamaha speakers. Hope these sound better and won't regret the purchase :)

  • Unboxing Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkbHGhUBZBU

    NB. This isn't me.

    • anyone interested in just the sub? pm me :p

  • ok people must have good bargaining skills because i called one store and they wouldn't go lower than 249 and i called the hotline 1300 980 399 and the lady wouldn't bring it down further and i would have to pay $10 for shipping.

atm theres 580 units left so I might try my local store to see if I can get it there - i wouldn't be stingy but if other people are getting it for $220 and bing lee quote 'everythings negotiable' then why aren't they bringing the price down further dammit! lol

    • Have you tried Guilford? $220 is no problemo there….So long as you follow my instructions above! :)

      • +1

        Dagnammit! I couldn't get below $249…
I was told that "we cannot go any lower".
Don't get me wrong, pretty happy with the price but knowing how many people got it for $220 makes me a little dark.

        • i agree! as such my predicament lol

  • ok im thinking of getting a pioneer received with this unit, i've seen people suggest Pioneer vsx520 $333 but looking at the Pioneer vsx518 $177 perhaps this one would be suffice?

The speakers don't require HDMI and I don't really need it do I? I did recently buy a HD set top box but i connect that to my current received via the yellow/white/red cables but it does have HDMI cable. IN saying that, I still have one of the old TV's so even if i produce high quality pictures then not like it will be really noticeable on my old TV will it?

    • That will mean your set top box will be sending the audio over to the receiver in stereo. Kinda defeats the purpose of having 5.1/7.1 system. You'll want to go coaxial/optical to transfer the digital audio to the receiver.

    • If your TV is not Full HD and can only accept Component or Composite then the VSX518 would be fine imo. I was considering it myself and I have a Full HD LCD. It just means you will plug the video out from each source into the TV and the audio out from each source into the receiver. Most (edit: cheaper) receivers that accept HDMI input will only output video via HDMI, which your TV is not capable of.

  • Anyone have any idea how these speakers + Pioneer VSX-520 is compared to one of the Yamaha HTIB such as YHT294 or YHT394?

    • Just look at the size (small!) and construction (plastic!) of the yht-294 speakers and you'll see that the sony speakers are far superior and sturdier. I was also looking at the yht-294 for a long time but so glad I held out. The receiver is good, but the speakers are very amateurish (except maybe for the bass which I've heard is good)

    • .

  • Hey kridp,
I paid via Paypal but I recieved no confirmation email/Tax Invoice from Bing Lee, I did recieve the payment confirmation from Paypal though. Is this normal?
Also, what kind of deal can you offer to ozbargainers for the yammy RX-V467?

    • Hey Demarco
Give the team a call on 1300980399 and they will do u a deal. We only have 2 left

Just bought these from Moore Park(NSW) When I rang them 30mins before I arrived, they had 7 in stock, but when I actually arrived, they were down to their last two. Just finished setting these up. Pretty good sound. Have it coupled with my Yamaha 6230 amp. Pretty good speakers for such a low price. Can't complain at all, OOO except it didn't come with any instructions but who need those anyways?

    • have fun with ur new toys, how much did you pay?

      • Bought it for $249, sales person wouldn't budge.

    • +1

What do you consider pretty good?

      • Good enough for $249 worth of speakers. Tried playing some action movies and car racing games on it, good surround and the bass is very low as compared to my old yamaha sub which came with the yht292. Really can't complain for $249. Grab it before it's gone.I was a bit hesitant before because I've seen some dodgy speakers previously from Sony and its competitors, where they're made out of cheap looking/feel plastic, but this one has a very solid feel to it, alloy if I'm not mistaken. Most importantly, it delivers great sound quality.

        • Do you mean low as in frequency or lack of?

  • +1

As I said earlier, I have mine hooked up via a vsx520 and it actually blew me away. You're looking at an equivalent $1k to $1.5k capable system. All HDMI'd from bluray through the receiver. The great thing about the vsx520 is the audio calibration tool. Works really well.

There's not much else to say other then these speakers are amazing value!

    • Awesome, Thanks, I'm getting the VSX520 also.

  • Ok the SAVS350 i bought today from the new binglee liverpool store for $249. Honestly even if it was 299 or 399 i still would have bought it because comparing it with HN or any other retailer its is an AWSOME BUY like i read in earlier comments HN have it advertised at $1199 Special price pffft yeah right. so no matter what price you get it at may it be 299 or 220 it is an AWSOME buy i give bing lee thumbs up for the excellent deal and credit to OZBARGAIN.com for sharing it with us :-)

  • I bought a set today from the new Bing Lee in Armidale. They wouldn't do 220 odd mentioned earlier. They showed me the floor cost ;) at 242.80, so I bought em for that. Haven't bought a receiver yet but one thing at a time eh.

  • Im on holiday in brissy so i called up to get the 220 price. Barry just said ozb are liars and theyre 249. Wish i was back in sydney. I hav a binglee next to my house

    • +1

      Hi Havok44

Ill have a chat to Barry. Apologies

  • +1

ok their online help is a joke lol

logged in at 5:08, said I was the next one and 3 minute wait, well waited 20 minutes and nothing. went out for a bit and showed the rep said hi and left at 6:25 lol

better to call them or go to the shop, this online customer service is useless for bing less

  • +1

I got a set today, with the Onkyo TX-SR308 and an optical cable for $600 at the Alexandria (NSW) Bing Lee. I spent a bit of time negotiating to get that price too, but I guess my skills aren't that great.

Bing Lee's website has the Onkyo TX-SR308 at $369, so all up I only got $18 off, plus a free cable. But I went for the Onkyo as it has better reviews.

  • +1

Can't resist. Ordered mine for $246.55 delivered.
Now waiting on receiver deal. The Pioneer vsx520 seems to be a good entry receiver but price is not good atm. FWIW, the RRP in the US for that model is $229. With the $ parity, $333 is not really a good deal, not even $266 ;)

  • +1

Can anyone that got it for $220 upload a receipt? it might give me more bargaining power if I go in-store tomorrow :)

    • +1

went to a bing lee store - had a contact there and gave me $220
its true how its who you know that makes the difference

      • Such a great deal that you wouldn't know about if not for this deal, yet no positive vote?

Let's support the Rep who is doing a great job here.

        :)

  • +1

kridp if I don't use my 5% off since the free shipping coupon only means I save $3 can I keep it and use if next time?

    • Thats correct. Use it next time

  • +1

Got 1 online for $249 free shipping, can't resist it too. Will buy an amp later.
Saw them in BL at Rhodes Shopping Centre, the tag still saying $1xxx, maybe people can afford to buy in that area!
So did not even try to ask for $220.

2 boxes are very bulky, won't fit in my car anyway! Better let someone to deliver to you, rather than spending hours to save a few bucks on NYE!

    Happy new year guys!

    • +1

All boxes have $1499 tag I guess. Mine had one as well. It doesn't mean they cannot be had for $220/$249.

      • +1

If somebody just buys it, "they" probably just sell for for that price,"plus 10% for maybe", it is a bit silly!

btw, just interested, could anyone successfully negotiated a price below $249 (free shipping ) online?
and what are they selling for the VSX520?

    • Happy New Year Fish

  • +1

Ordered a set last night - they would need to be super speakers given the $1499 RRP, sounds like everyone who has them is happy with the sound and build quality. A matching amp/receiver option could be the Sony STRDH510 sold by BL.
I bought a new Sony LED 3D TV & PS3 (Dick Smith listed on OZBargain) and was looking to match components.
BL would not budge on the speakers but agreed to knock the Receiver down from $449 to $395 ($499RRP).
I was still too tight to buy one given they sell in US for less than $300 and its still a current model.
I will wait for the run-out special early next year.

    • +1

I would take the Sony STRDH510 in an instant if it was down to $350, would work perfectly with these speakers

      • I got Sony STRDH810 from Bing Lee today for $680 after I decided to exchange the Yamaha RX-V367.
If you have 3D TV, I think it's worth getting this model, but I am new to this as well so don't take my words :)
Maybe you can get lower price if you bargain really hard, like using the "walk away" trick :)

  • Guys we have 5 x Onkyo TX-SR308's at $369. Stock will ship late next week if you order today.

    • Does the TX-SR308 have the auto speaker setup?

      • +1

Custom. I had to go on the floor to confirm. It does have an auto set up function for the speakers

        • Hi kridp,

Called Onkyo support, and they advised the 308 doesn't have the auto speaker setup, only higher models.

Just thought I would let you know.

          Cheers,

  • +1

I purchased these speakers last night for $220 at Hornsby, NSW. I started with $220, the salesman offered $235, I then mentioned that others had received them for $220 and the salesman quickly agreed to the price. Thanks kridp, and the rest of you for giving me a good price to negotiate to! They are heavy and look good, but I haven't heard the sound yet.

  • +1

    Awesome. Just ordered 2.

  • +1

I purchased these speakers yesterday and i LOVE THEM they are sooooooooo good i did purchase them at $245 but im happy with that. Getting speaks valued more then $1000 and picking them up for 245 im more then happy to buy two so dont know what the big fuss is about barganing for an extra 15-25 dollars just a waste of time to me.

PS If your that tight for cash come to me i can give you fuel vouchers i dont use
I also purchased the STRDH510 aswell this morning matches the speakers and is perfect for this speaker system.

  • +1

Bought this unit using free shipping. I was going to get the Yamaha RXV 367 amp with it but they were sold out. Printed out the item in binglee website and took to jb for a price match.

Guy on the phone said they were selling about 200 of these speaker packs per hr.

    • JB are selling 200 SAVS350H per hour?

      • JB Hifi don't sell the SACS350H. I think he was referring to the yamaha amp. But I'm surprised it would sell that well since they don't have it on special. Yesterday JB Hifi Belrose had it advertised for $474. Hardly compelling.

      • No no, the person i spoke to at binglee said they were selling the speaker packages at about 200 an hr or was he telling me porkies?

I also asked if they could so a better deal and they refused to even though i mentioned others have got it cheaper. A bit disappointing.

  • A couple of more positive votes and we make the top deals of the week. Thank you for the support ozbargainers. Keep an eye our for more deals

  • Hey KIDRP - I can't call the customer service line to neg a deal..

Can you tell me the price for this: http://www.binglee.com.au/audio/home-theatre-systems/yamaha-… delivered to Brisbane?

JB Hifi have it for $922 delivered anywhere in Aus and I can get it for $850 in store.

    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/home%20theatre/home%20theatre…

    • -1

Yes, Kidrp, why don't you offer decent some Amp deals that come with the Speakers, we will ask Aunt Yenda Lee to promote you to be a Manager. You just don't know who is who Is Ozbargain!

      • +1

What makes u think Im not Fish :)

    • +1

      Cross selling is very important!

      • +2

We are working on some amp deals. Suppliers our out at the moment. Stock is the issue. I don't want to post a deal for 2 units. I don't think that's fair or worthy of this forum

        • That sounds good - might just hold off on the $333 VSX520 JB Hifi deal.

As a few people have mentioned already - it seems strange why Amps are so much cheaper in the US than here?

    • Just jump on live chat and we will sort you out

      • +1

You can do it for $850 but delivery of $180, so $1030. Can get it for $922 delivered from JB.

        • $180 delivery? must be same day by air, with personal delivery by jennifer hawkins

        • Very heavy. Ive spoken to the guys. Working on delivery options for you. Will let u know shortly

        • Call Nathan on 1300980399 and he will give you a new price.
