  • bought this yesterday from blacktown mega centre. I actually got mine for 220 and i bought a Yamaha RXV 367 to go with it for 340. Good buy and sounds great. Just asked for the cheaper price and they gave it so im happy :D.

    • hows the sound quality (any buzzing feedback?)
also is this a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system? abit confused
      ta

      • Looks like one set of speakers have a split in the middle, possibly allowing the top/bottom halves to be positioned at different angles.

Not true 7.1 in that case, more like 5.1 + some reflections.

        • +3

No there are actually 4 rear speakers. They can be joined with special brackets to put 2 of the speakers 'end to end'…therefore going into 5.1 mode.

      • +1

The sound quality is actually quite amazing. Obviously not the same as a 'large' speaker system but coupled with a decent receiver, it's high quality all the way. I recently watched some BluRays on it and it performs at pretty insane levels. High clarity and tonnes of warm, punchy and loud bass (room shaking actually imo!)

    • +1

awesome, got it at the guildford bing lee for $220 as well :)

    • Got exactly the same as yours but paid $600. Should have read your comment before to save $40 :)
Actually I haven't picked them up from the store. Maybe I can try to ask them when picking up tomorrow. Any chance to upload/send the receipt? Thanks.

I bought this for $399 off Bing Lee a couple of months ago - thanks to Ozbargain (I have it coupled with a Pioneer vsx-250k) and it really is awesome. Great price for $249…I totally recommend the system. It kicks a lot or ar*e! It was delivered within 2 days to Adelaide.

Seriously, I was sceptical at first but it kicks all those HtiB systems for a country mile…plus it's way cheaper, looks great and actually performs really well. The sub is probably the best thing about the system. Very low and very punchy (and very loud!)

I have it setup in 5.1 mode and you can even use the joined rear speakers as the fronts as suprisingly, they are exactly the same (when having the 4 rears made into 2) - so th options for configuration are endless. My setup…
    http://img220.imageshack.us/i/photoqu.jpg/
Excuse the crappy phone piccy. I wired up the rears through the walls and am using the systems 'fronts' as my rears atm. Reason being they are the same as the two 'rear' speakers, but just on a built in stand - ease of use WIN.

I just went to HN (Woodville) and noticed it for $1200 on special…errrr ok.

    • +3

Why people shop at Hardly Normal is beyond me. Somehow they get away with it though.

    • +1

that's even worse than the white van scam!

      • douche akoustiks ftw!

  • +2

Wow, thanks seems like a very good deal was in the market for a good/inexpensive surround sound.
    Cheers for the heads up.

Tempted by this, I have sony KDL40HX800 and a PS3 (may even attempt to hook up pc), I assume I'd need a receiver to hook up my TV and PS3 to those speakers? if so, any recommendation a low cost unit?

Not very experienced with the whole sounds system thing, currently have a Yamaha 2 mini speakers and sub connected to pc great sound for a small unit(was made in 2001) but it won't connect to TV/PS3, so I'm looking to update, any help appreciated and forgive my inexperience in the field.

    • +1

You will need a AV receiver

Check this Yamaha out. It's pretty solid for an entry level unit.

        Looking at the
        Sony - STRDH510 - 5.1 Channel Full HD Receiver
        http://www.binglee.com.au/audio/amplifiers/components-2/sony…

        and the Yamaha - RX-V367 - 5.1Ch AV Receiver
        http://www.binglee.com.au/audio/amplifiers/yamaha-rx-v367-5-…

Anyone have an opinion on which would be better with the speakers mentioned here.

As mentioned above want to use with a Sony KDL40HX800 and a PS3, maybe hook up my pc if I can.

        • Without trying to sound like a salesmen I genuinely own the Yamaha and love it. My boy uses it as part of his home DJ set up and it works a treat.

        • +2

Yamaha does seem good, any kind of deal if I buy them together?

Looks like a found a unit, PIONEER - VSX520 $333 from Jbhifi free delivery, guess I'll grab me some sony speakers to go with it ;)

        • VSX520 is showing $495 for me, not $333 :(

      • Why nobody mentioned about the Onkyo SR308 which is on special at bing lee?

      • Just got the Yamaha rx-v667B (7.1) from JB after doing a bit of research seems to be one of the better budget 7.1 receivers on the market.

I told JB BingLee were doing Onkyo 578 for $640 and if they couldn't get it under $700, I would just buy it off BingLee, they did the 667B for $678 without too much more trouble :)

Now just waiting on the speakers to arrive.

  • +1

When you connect it in 5.1 (two rears joined together) I assume cable connects to both speakers somehow???

    • What do you mean? Ill try and get you an anwer

  • In 5.1 mode two small speakers are joined together on a single stand (see picture) My question was how do we connect a single rear cable to both of these speakers?

    • The rear speakers are on separate stands and have separate cables

    • -2

cookienut could you reply to my question? Rep has no idea what I'm talking about.

      • +1

i think the rep understood what you were saying but to clarify, when you connect the 2 small speakers into 1, you must use a few screws to connect it to the stand. The stand has inbuilt 1 connection which you would connect to your amp. So instead of connecting two seperate speakers with seperate connections, the stand connects both together for 1 joint connection. Is this what you meant?

        • yes thank you

  • +1

Can I connect everything and power it up with through the normal 2.5 port?

    • +1

I don't know what 2.5 port is but you need an AV receiver. Yamaha onkyo pioneer etc

  • +1

    awesome, bought these…

ive got some good quality ones but old and chunky - will change over to something sleek!

  • +1

im looking for a 5 piece speaker set to complement to my sub, are all 5 speakers individually using normal speaker wires?

      • +1

hes not joking, this rep is a champ!, that number is their main hotline, veryyyy tempting almost won a sale here :D

        • Thank you annoynimous

      • No joke at all. We reopen tomorrow at 9am

        • +1

Damn. Will stock last the night? I would buy at the $220 mentioned a few times above.

      • Ugh, I must of posted this JUST after the rep, I was referring to him (anonimous)asking for negotiations on an already massively discounted product….

        • I think you must be the one joking. Why can't he bargain on a discounted a product? Especially when the business is inviting him to negotiate the price on anything. Grow up.

        • -2

          someones antsyyyy

*SEE? The big man himself (kridp) said he can't negotiate on it. duh. *

Video Pro also got a bunch of this speaker set in stock. Bing Lee asks for $100 delivery to Brisbane so I tried haggling @ local Video Pro. Got them for $350 about a month ago when Bing Lee price was $299 + delivery. Actually a pretty decent speaker. Hooked up with Yamaha RX-667. It's a true 7.1 set. The rear speaker (2 separate speakers each side) can be joined with the stand which has the connection to both speakers. Very smart design. I guess Sony is running big loss on these speakers as they definitely not worth the r.r.p. $1499, but for the price under $300 it's absolutely bargain!

    • Hcshih
Who at Bing Lee online told you $100 cause its normally $10. Thats not accurate at all

      • Can't remember the guy's name. I first used online chat then made a phone call to same guy and he said usually it's $10 but 'cos the boxes are huge (well both are really huge & heavy) so the delivery charge would be $100.

        • +2

Really sorry about that. Its not correct. Ill talk to the team today

        • No worries. Maybe next time :)

I want to get this unit to connect to my computer and wii console.

Do I need a AV receiver to hook them up?

    • Ill have to ask one of our buyers in the morning for you ct110. Im not 100% sure. Maybe someone else on the thread can help you tonight

      • -1

Same question as I don't have a receiver yet.
BTW rep, seem others get it for $220 + $10 shipping as you said above so best price to SA is $230?

        • Its $249 online. I cant comment on what others are doing. If you can get to a local store you can try.

        • +1

Hmmm….if you open 1 in SA then I'll visit your store :)

      • +1

the speaker system requires an AV receiver. The AV receiver you get will determine if you can connect your Wii and pc. From what ive done so far with mine, ive got tv audio coming through the system. Ive also connected the ps3 to my tv which as provided the surround sound as well. Id assume the same would work for the wii. The pc is a bit harder to connect but i think this website will help.

Great price ! Did some online searches for reviews, seemed positive so ordered a set to replace the default speakers that came with Yamaha set.

    • Enjoy your new speakers eyew. We will ship shortly

  • +1

This is tempting… but I don't have any AV receivers :(

    • Dazzer check out testeagles post. I have suggested a good unit for him

      • damn its over 8pm no more hotline now, kridp do you do negotiations too? :D

        • +4

          I do from 9am tomorrow :)
But not on this one. Its too hot. Ask the 126 people that have ordered online.

  • +1

Cheers for that just ordered one to perth with $10 shipping, cant go wrong.

    • Oh man…

      • no good ??

        • You didn't get the free shipping as mentioned in the deal.

        • So yes, he can go wrong :)

        • haha yeah I did see that when I got my sister one aswell, oh well it's only $10 :(

  • So would a z5500 be better or worse than this for a home theatre setup?

    • +1

the sony speakers are better as they are a dedicated speaker setup but u will need a receiver.. where as the z5500 is pretty much a mini receiver combo which represents better value

    • Don't know enough about the logitech to comment

  • Bought myself the speakers, binglee charges a surcharge on paypal? ended up being charged $259, I used a %5 discount code instead of free delivery but that should of worked out cheaper, hmm on a second glance maybe the %5 discount didn't apply properly.

    • Any chance of sharing the 5% discount code?

      • 5NEWSOFF is code, you get it from registering for emails off site, applies to first purchase.

        • No surcharge for using paypal. Call us in the morning and we will look into it for you

        • Coupon code "5NEWSOFF" is not valid.

    • +1

I paid using Paypal and didn't see any surcharge.

My hardest decision was between free delivery or pickup from nearby store. Chose delivery in the end.

    • Spoke to Barry on 1300 980 399, says %5 discount code should not have worked, funny enough it actually did apply onsite but didn’t go through to paypal for some reason, I asked Barry if I could get the free shipping code applied then, he said he couldn’t refund me as I used paypal to pay but would look in to it/speak to manager, would be nice to recoup a little.

  • +1

Thanks, awesome deal :) Now to find an AV receiver… kridp, if you could do a better deal on the RX-V367, could you add it to my order?

    • +1

Call us in the morning on 1300980399 and the team will see what they can do

      • Meant to reply further up.

  • +4

Not to hijack Kridp's thread but this is probably worth a look at if you need an entry level receiver to go with speakers.

    Good reviews, $333 free delivery.

    • Wow nice find!

      On JB's site its $465

I've ordered one of the VSX520 5.1 and also the speakers from the thread :)

      Thanks mate :) ++++ Votes!

      • No Problem at all, guys helped me with a little info here, so it's always good to pass on help when you can. As for the $266 if you shop round store you may be able to get that if they are getting rid of stock, but I'm happy enough with $333 compared to $465 or more.

    • According to this post, $266 is the cheapest so the price could come down after new year?
