  • Why not just unplug it if you want to switch it off?

    • +12

That requires you to move an extra 50cm

      • +9

        Screw that. I just bought.

    • +19

That's the sort of thing people would say when they first invented the remote control

      • You can use a wireless mouse to turn it off.

You can use a wireless mouse to turn it off.

But not to turn it on.

Phones aren't the only thing that use micro USB. I could think of heaps of uses where I have wanted to kill the power 2 a device (ras pi for eg) but have 2 unplug it, saves wear n tear on an already shitty connector type… Especially if u like 2 tinker around like I do, phone flashing etc…

      • Unlike the Zapals 'Freebies' you can buy more than one of these.

USB fans and lights first came to mind.

Always handy to have a nearby torch always ready especially in the middle of the night and a nice fan is always a good thing.

you already have a free switch. it's where you plug it into the wall.

core electronics sell these for 2.85 if anyone wants a local one

Or something basically the same from Aliexpress for $1.12 USD in case anyone spots this deal after it's over and wanted one as well - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Raspberry-Pi-Power-Cable-wit…

I've been getting my aliexpress deliveries in ~2 weeks recently, sometimes as soon as 1 week/5-6 business days (not sure how that's even possible - Australian stock???). Last few times I've ordered from Zapals it's taken months for arrivals :/

        • let me see over $1 v under $1 same delivery cost.

vagaries of delivery time…….. oz bargain = pay more for maybe on a good day it comes quicker or may be not….

      • core electronics sell these for 2.85 if anyone wants a local one

        Plus $3 shipping :)

      • My power outlets don't have switches on them.

      • +1

Not everyone's power point is easily accessible. eg Mine is behind the bedside draws

    • Given the notorious short life of some cables and/or ports it actually gets quite annoying if you have to do it daily like I do for a bluetooth headset I have at my desk.

One of those older devices where it can't be used and charged at the same time.

  • could this turn on the bluetooth music receiver adapter from the other deal?

    • It would be good for anything which is powered be a Micro USB Cable.

You can also by adapters for other connection types.

      • oh i mean turn it on via the button
edit: just realised it will only cut power not able to turn the device on :P

        • +1

That would depend on the device.

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

  • Bit of a long shot for anyone to know, but anyone happen to know if this is a double-pole switch or (most likely) a single-pole where it just switches off the +5V rail?

As mentioned in an above comment I have a BT headset that you can't use and charge at the same time. I have it hooked up to an old USB2.0 hub which has inbuilt power switches, but found even when switched "off" for me to use it there would be a slight buzz coming out of the headset from what I'm assuming is a noisy ground still being connected.

    • The only info I have is what is listed above, but it's only $1.31 so won't be a huge loss if it doesn't meet you needs.

  • First thing that came to mind was now properly controlled USB fans and USB lights but now I just need a micro USB to USB adapter for both.

  • does anyone know if its a low powered cable and therefore charging phone will be super slow with it?

    • +1

If it's designed to power a raspberry pi (2.5amps) then it should not be.

  • Turn on and off the NES and SNES mini?

    • They have power buttons?

  • I always wanted one of those for my mk808, shame the power connector is mini USB

    • You can buy adapters to convert it to whatever you need.

      • I thought so, but after 4 years in mastering the art of contorsionism to reach the switch on the power point, now I'm just waiting for a decent deal on a new android box.

  • Coupon code limit has been reached

These work, but just be warned - 1m is too short to be useful, with these kind of cables, really.

  • I don't get it, it says coupon is for registered users only, I created and verified an account but still can't get the discount price.

    • Double check that you are logged in properly

Not sure what that was, all good now - thanks!

  • Whoops wrong thread!

    • Just checked and it is still US$0.99

Check and make sure that your logged in, nothing else is in your cart and shipping option selected.

      • No I meant to comment on a different post - sorry! Multiple browser tab bingo.

  • I tested mine today with my phone and unfortunately it does not support fast charging

    • Got mine today as well. Yep doesn't support fast charging (from a Samsung fast charger) but charges as fast as a normal charger which is good enough for me. Not as bad as some of the really cheap cables which take like eight hours to charge a phone.
