Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. Massive credit to Daniel for this one. Thanks mate.
You can also get 10% off your first purchase too.
I guess you could complain after it expires in 30 years if you're still alive for false advertising.

This includes a VPN right? There's no way a business can be sustainable offering a VPN service for 30 years for $35. On going costs don't disappear.

    Edit: it does.

    • It will be a loss leader.

    • Not a good one. Using the OpenVPN client and it shows significant DNS leaks where others like Nord or TunnelBear do not.

  • I wouldn't trust Daniel…

    • I wouldn't either.

      • +2

        I see you.

    • +1

      Jack, yes. Stormy, no.

  • +12

30 years lifetime. Think this deal may be targeted at meth users.

    • +1

Yeap. We can use it with Telstra Air near the phone booth in here.

  • -2

    Avoid

    • Why?

    • +10

I’ve had a getflix lifetime sub for about 5 years (15 in meth years) and it has worked perfectly for everything except Netflix US. The complimentary VPN is excellent too.

      • What streaming service do you use with Getflix?
My Netflix account has expired and am looking for an alternative.
        One with good documentaries.
How is the speed? watching 4K would be ok?

        • I mainly use Hulu and Amazon Prime, occasionally BBC

        • @Japius: and Getflix would continue to work with this sites?

        • @congngo:

          Still working right now

      • I've had it for a few years now too but have no problems watching Netflix US.

      • except Netflix US

Does it work with other countries?

        • +1

          No.

  • +7

with streaming services killing smart DNS exit node IP address blocks it renders the service pretty much useless

5 years ago these businesses made a killing. these days better to run your own VPS with a residential IP from USA. Plus any crappy website offereing "30 years" of anything is full of shite

last ditch money grab if you had to take a guess

    • +5

where can we get a vps with a residential ip in the US. Is the node in someone's garage ?

    • The ‘last ditch money grab’ was also around a few years when I got this same deal. They’re still around.

  • +4

Run for the hills. Trying to lure people for a service that will become obsolete.

    • I don’t know much about this smart DNS. Will it be obsolete soon?
Do you have links that I can do some reading to find out more?
      Thanks.

  • +4

I have previously purchased a Getflix Lifetime sub and it works great for unblocking most geo-blocked sites but not real good for Netflix USA.
Hulu HBO,BBC,Amazon etc etc all work fine..

    • +1

Same. Sure Netflix US made things difficult but I still use Getflix for amazon prime and Hulu every day can’t really fault getflix at all, when Netflix started playing hardball they still kept trying and kept the cat and mouse game going for a long time, have easily gotten my money’s worth from my getflix sub

    • +2

      Yep +1

  • +3

I purchased this last year and it only worked for a few weeks. Then it stopped, I have raised countless tickets with their support team, which have resulted in auto messages like, oh we don't support any apps, e.g. Smart TV apps/Mobile Apps/Android & Apple TV Apps. And if I wanted to use their service I need to log on to a computer browser and have my fingers crossed. Even with that 99% of the time it doesn't work. Steer away!

    • Ok. Thanks for the feedback!

    • +1

For what services? Other than Netflix US they work perfectly for me for all my other services

      • I've had same deal for a couple of years… Netflix went from perfect to spending a really long time loading any content. I'm talking minutes. About half the time you get the 'woops something went wrong' page. 25% of the time it works but buffers really hard and is low quality stream. Sometimes is perfect after a long buffer.

Isn't the connection as we get 100 mbit and Netflix oz works fine if bypassing getflix

    • +4

You haven't really described a very specific problem (it stopped working). If you wrote that in a support ticket, I think a bot answer would have been appropriate.

      • oh various error messages on the screen when streaming netflix - I have even contacted their Facebook channel for support and it was the same message.

    • +2

I was with them 2 years no probs. Not an awesome VPN but very usable, you'll get a bit more than half your bandwidth using it.

  • -1

Getflix stopped supporting these lifetime accounts, only works on pc not on other devices

    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2648586&…

    Getflix:
Unfortunately, we still have issue for Netflix access on our Free trial and Lifetime subscription users.
A direct subscription with Getflix have access to Netflix US at the moment. Lifetime subscriptions are not offered by Getflix directly. It came from 3rd party websites such as stack social.
Our Network Engineers are still actively working to resolve the issue.

    • +3

My lifetime sub works on my Apple tvs and iPads? Watching Hulu right now on an Apple TV….only Netflix US seems effected

      • +1

Ditto, lifetime works on all devices, but yes, Netflix US is no longer reliable on any device.

My lifetime subscription paid for itself in the first year. Will it still be around in 30years? well, Will any of us still be around in 30 years.

        • +2

Yup, I just shove the DNS on my router, could use a secondary one but can't be bothered

        • @D3m3ntia:

Yep, secondary DNS's are for suckers!.

      • Yeah the Netflix apps (on most devices) uses Google DNS to detect your real region.
On a PC/Mac/Linux box it can't do that via a browser, so smart dns can work. There are ways around it using your router/fixed routing to block redirect google DNS requests. For awhile using an old version of the app worked too.

    • classic ozbargain just down voting everything like they are reddit.

you are right and i've been battling ozbargain while trying to raise a little awareness lol

  • +6

    TLDR:
    - Don't count on it working for Netflix.
    - Don't count on it working for anything.
    - Don't count it on being around for lifetime/30yrs

    • It's cheap, if you get 1yr out of it, you're ahead.
    • It works well for other services (BBC/ITV/Hulu/Amazon Prime/HBO/etc).
    • It's generally much faster then a VPN

They do the occasional lifetime deal, the first was back on 2015.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/212663

They have 14 day free trial, so try before you buy.

The alternative is DNS4ME. I've used them for years & they're great. you can even set up your own routes. you can download a host file (for DNSMasq/PiHole) so you don't even need their DNS servers.

    • if someone update the op with this info, i'll remove my neg

    • Can you use dns4me for Netflix us? I remember having subscribed to them but opted out when Netflix became unavailable, is it still the case? I can't seem to find info on it.

      • I don't have a netflix a/c, but I believe USA & UK are supported unofficially (they work, but they can't guarantee they will in future).
        http://whrl.pl/Re6gI7

But you can do a 7 day trial & see.
If you do sign up, use lovewp code to get 10% off.

I got one of these years ago. Still works. I don't use it much, just on the odd occasion I want to region spoof via VPN. Worth it for me

  • +3

Bought this two years ago. Two years ago the same argument about it not lasting was raised, it's still working. Sure, past experience may not demonstrate future performance.

Have used the smartDNS for geo unblocking.

Have also set up an OpenVPN client on my router (flashed with Tomato by Shibby) for other downloads.

    • +3

Exactly what I was going to say… Plus this is cheaper than their annual subscription anyway, so pretty sure anyone buying now will still get value out of the purchase!

      • My annual sub is coming to an end i use these with my apple tv's i need to check ptice of annual as might just get this instead.

        • $39.90us
I’m going to grab it, if Netflix works for a year I come out a bit ahead

        • -1

So I’ve gone from monthly (had issues in the past and only had it for a couple of months) and have just bought and applied one of these.

Now suddenly can’t access Netflix US anymore.
Will troubleshoot another day but this looks like it’s a dud and waste of $50…

    • +2

Same, I've had Getflix for 3 years and the lifetime subscription for over 2. I don't use Netflix at all but have used it to stream geoblocked sports. Getflix has never missed a beat and has easily paid for itsel. It has effectively saved me hundreds of dollars in sports subscriptions or allowed me to access higher quality streams than I was able to access in Australia.

  • +1

I can vouch for Getflix not working with netflix. Hasn't worked in ages. I have the lifetime subscription, but have stopped using it for over a year.

  • +1

Good if you intend to use it for anything except Netflix (and possibly Amazon Prime now). Getflix offers nothing in the way of support for these subs, and if you complain you'll get a response along the lines that lifetime subscriptions are on a "trial server" and you don't have access to the same thing that fully paid-up customers have (and never will).

Just see this Whirlpool thread for evidence.
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2614016

    • +1

I use it for amazon prime with no issues

  • So, what is the easiest way to get netflix US these days? i had getflix a couple of years ago until it stopped, been watching AUS netflix now but wouldnt mind going back

    • Easiest or cheapest?

Most people who wanna use smart DNS are saying DNS4Me. Otherwise it's one of the paid VPN services like Vanish, Express, Trimium, etc. or even roll your own.

I think DNS4Me supports US and UK - I haven't tried it so I dunno if it's like Getflix where you can simply switch between countries through a simple web interface.

And no idea about the other VPNs, but Trimium supports a bunch of countries (US, France, Japan, UK, Canada, etc.) but it can be a pain in the ass to switch depending on how you have your VPN set up (have to use different logins for each country, for instance).

    • Get windscribe, which works for me. I am using getflix aswell which works for me, I dont know how other people are having problems. I use getflix at home with smart DNS and windscribe when I am outside for Netflix. Lool after some windscribe deals, there was one few days ago in OZBARGAIN aswell.

  • +4

Stacksocial don't make it clear that you won't get the full package with this deal i.e. you won't get access to all the regions that those on a monthly subscription do, and the regions that you do get quickly become redundant and no longer work (especially Netflix). As such, I think this 'lifetime' deal is misleading.

I pretty much only use this package for the VPN, and it's slow, so it's a neg from me…

    • +2

This has not been my experience. I have the Same list of servers as when I was on an annual sub, and VPN is normally 25Mps+ when I do a speedtest.net.

      • When I contacted Getflix support about my issues with US Netflix I was told that 'United States 4' was the only US Netflix region available to me under the lifetime plan. A work colleague (who pays for a periodic subscription) showed me that he had a least 3 US connections. How many do you currently have Tamps?

I'm still on ADSL2. I'm lucky to get 2mbps via Getlfix's Newcastle VPN server (down from about 8 or 9mbps)

        • You may be right have you friend check what he has now. I only have 'United States 7' but I have only had one server since Netflix stepped it up. I had a DD-WRT with the DNS forced to getflix for all devices, the Roku would still complain but it was working on the pc last time I checked. I mostly use it for Amazon Prime now and the VPN.

    • So you get less for your money compared to a annual sub of so then im out. But be nice to see some discount on annual subs though. We used to get them regularly.

  • there is no way you are going to get 30 years of streaming from this service

    buyer beware

  • So just to confirm, 1)the only use of this is via a PC not via a mobile app
    2) Everything BUT NETFLIX US
    3) Will need some form of VPN software also installed on the PC

    Can someone confirm this??

  • is getflix just a vpn service or do they also provide the content membership?

    • This is answered in the description of the the product. You just have to click the link.

  • Even in the most impoverished country on the African continent the life expectancy is well above 30 years.

  • +1

Grabbed the lifetime deal several years ago mine expires in 2045 US. Netflix works fine here with Getflix, when there's issues they post a message on their website and tell you how to fix it. Along with streaming sites you can also watch CBS, NBC, ABC etc by changing the regions in Getflix so you are also able to watch shows the day after they air in the US online. Well worth getting

  • +1

Yeah beserkk and anthonyneave are right, BEWARE!
Currently arguing with getflix as they are no longer honoring my lifetime subscrition I purchased a few years back for Netflix us. They blame Netflix and say that I'm a 3rd party promo user, but at not point when I paid for it did they say they would not be giving me the full service.

All I cared about was using Netflix US on all my devices, which is what they promoted at the time. Now they no longer honor that, service is borderline useless for me. Now they talk in circles or ignore my emails all together and refuse to acknowledge this.
