My 2016 MBP needs to have the top half replaced soon, costs $800. At this price i can't justify fixing it lol.

    • No warranty?

      • Bought Overseas :( Warranty ran out the month before the screen crapped out on me.

        • as in you bought it online shipped from another country or you bought it via apple store in… USA, or another country?

I want to buy this macbook but im concerned about repairs and warranty.

  • got a brand new one off someone for $1K, it’s a good laptop for multimedia and programming, otherwise skip it since it’s running a m3 fan-less design chassis, can’t do anything intense.

    • yup. this is slower than my mbp retina frpm 2012 lol

      • It's more an ipad then mac book pro

To be completely fair CPU tech has hardly changed, so a current MBP won't be all that much more powerful than you 2012 rMBP either.

    • What sort of programming tasks are you finding it's good for?

      • Make some swift apps are fine, mainly used to write python, text editor like vim in terminal. Not bad at all.

    • Yep I agree, for general office tasks it's pretty good. I have a desktop at home and at work, so I mostly use mine for replying to emails on the couch or writing up documents when I don't feel like sitting at my desk. It's really great for that sort of stuff.

  • I have this one and it's actually a great little computer. But I'm not crazy about the keyboard, crumbs get stuck in there sometimes. The newest model is meant to have fixed the old keyboard issue, but if you're a clean person or don't mind un-crumbing the keys, or buy a cover, then it's not an issue I guess. Also it's a little underpowered but only barely and only in certain circumstances. I do use Photoshop on it, watch blu rays, it handles it fine. Newest model is a bit faster than this one I believe. Screen looks great on all of them. Large glass trackpad is great. For $1,000 it's probably worth it, but I'd buy the new and improved one if I didn't already have this one.

    • True, but at this price it's worth a try for anyone who's never owned one. Worst case scenario is to just flip it on Gumtree or eBay for about the same as you bought it here.

I am after a good Mac for my wife… and this is a good price. However I wouldn't be getting this.

Apple is rumoured to be releasing a new MacBook around this price that will have a better processor etc. So I wouldn't be purchasing this until I see what is coming.

Technology just keep advancing and eventually any existing system will get obsolete hence price dropped. I guess it depends if whether the latest and greatest justified your wallet.

    • There have been rumours about that sort of MBA replacement for a while, but I question whether there's room for that in Apple's lineup.

Back in 2012, the MBP was a lot bigger than the MBA. Now, the MBP has gotten much smaller over time and the 12" MacBook is attacking from below.

The rMBP is 1.3 kg, this is 0.9kg, is there really much room for another model?

    • The announcement will happen in Sep-Oct as per usual.

    • Any new MacBook won't be at this price. But yes processor improvements might be worth waiting for.

  • hey any idea how to get free shipping and voucher

    • You can buy voucher from ebay. Just search for kogan 50 - will be for less than $11. Shipping will not be free as for most metros, shipping is more than $20.

@zixtee: can you buy the Kogan gift cards online or is this an instore thing

        • @McBanjo: only in store

@zixtee: Great thanks. Bought 9 x $100 gift cards this morning. They didn't have $50 options. Also the $30 voucher worked when purchased from ebay, but the $20 voucher didn't. My total spend wasn't above $120 after applying the gift cards so I'm guessing it wouldn't work… something to consider if you want to double up.

  • Is there anyway we can purchase applecare+ with this macbook?

otherwise how does the kogan extended warranty work? they dont explain it well
