  • These any good? I’d love to know if they’re good value or if someone can point me in the direction of a set for around $80 to buy.

    • +1

sorry tbh i dont do any research on the actual product or have it, but:
from the RRP of 46+32 only, i dont think this is a good can.
then they discounted almost half, means this doesnt sell good.

of course of course many will say what do you expect from $46, for $46 this is good, etc etc

Bought these and somehow managed to have one ear stop working twice, second replacement happened within 2 weeks. Swapped them for AudioTechnica headphones and had those for 6 months with no issue.

Could have just had two faulty headphones, or they're just poorly made.

  • 92592662051 is my coupon code :)

    • +1

      It's generic as it's mine also, 92592662051

      • Thanks guys, updated.

        • Store manager refused to honour the deal and didn't want to give any reasons why to explain why they don't know about it. Both store managers refused to scan the code and got very personally abusive trying to tell all staff not to honour the code because he was losing the argument

    • Seems like it’s a generic coupon

  • nice review on what hifi. appear to for ~$67 on eBay and are listed at $69 on storeDJ so I'd say this is a deal. I think they'd be worth grabbing at this price if you were on a tight budget; the only thing i'd worry about would be those pads degrading.

  • Can any of you suggest a ozbargainer affordable headphone amplifier for this please?

    • +2

The Fiio A3 comes highly recommended.

+1 I bought one recently, paired with vsonic's gr06 and xd 53. The xd's tickel my ear drum full volume.

Wouldn't be good on your ears but love the volume these things give out

i got a Fiio Q1 looks slick as hell and great portable dac/amp for my dt770

    • +11

Why would you bother amplifying 32ohm/110dB spl/V headphones that cost $46?

      • Perhaps he has an undiagnosed severe hearing loss?

    • +1

IF you need a phone as well, get the LG V20. It has a good quad dac/amp.

      • +1

The V20 can drive a 600ohm headphone too. That's impressive in terms of audiophile standards.

    • Honestly; for these, just use your phone/source output directly. They look easy to drive and pretty low end, I wouldn't even bother putting a fiio in front of these.

ie, if you want to add another $99, get some better headphones like the 32ohm or 80ohm Beyer DT770 instead of putting an amp behind these.

  • Typically for JB, the subject line is: "Exclusive Coupon: 40% Off AKG Headphones" which doesn't appear to be true at all.

    • They didn't ask me for one when I bought mine. I just told them there was a deal on, and the salesman just knocked them down to $46.

  • Seem similar to Sennheiser HD201, but a step up?

    Saw this review, https://www.whathifi.com/akg/k52/review

Sure seem to be a decent traditional closed phone. Good for keeping nagging mothers at bay, closing the workspace or the traffic noise out without spending more for NC, batteries or applying louder volumes and damaging your hearing.

Thing is, what phone today is much chop when it is missing a microphone? Don't we all use phones now? Why are they not retrofitting in-line mics and 3 pin plugs into all headphones produced with a 3.5mm plug since, like 5 years ago?

New model coming, me thinks, already ordered even, due any moment?

  • I bought these a while back when jb had a big sale. Absolute rubbish.

The audio quality is terrible. My $70 sennheiser pair is leaps and bounds better.

Plus the jack doesnt work properly with my galaxy S7 (and most devices). Connection is very poor with the audio cutting out all the time.

Wouldnt take these if you paid me.

^ these are $81Aud shipped. Not the same as my pair (HD 439) but appears to be its replacement. Used mine for over 2 years every day and theyre still as good as day 1. Finally replaced them with some Bluetooth pioneer SE-MS7BT ones last week. Excellent cans for $130aud. Cant go wrong with either imho. Both muuuuch more comfortable than the AKGs, especially with my big head and large ears

AKG K44's aren't very good so wouldn't bother with these. https://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHP9500-Precision-Over-ear-He…. These headphones have served me well and you should be able to get them for less than $100. The sound is great

Have used these as a daily driver for around 6 months with my PC for casual music and gaming; So I feel like I can give a decent review.

The AKG 52's are tough headphones with a comfortable closed-ear design. Very comfortable for hours of use but you'll suffer from the obvious moisture issues that all vinyl/leatherette ear cups run into with extended use. I'd recommend getting some round memory foam cups for these if you're planning on using them for extended periods.

Clean soundscape with little outside noise leakage, but an overall airy feeling despite the closed ear design: They sit somewhere in the middle of closed and open. Crisp mids and high, however the extreme middle of the two sometimes gets muddy. Bass junkies should probably look elsewhere, these are comparable to most budget closed-ears with the MDS stating they're good down to 18Hz — I've found it's closer to 25Hz.

It should be known there are some quality control issues with the 52s that isn't present in the later models: Some users complain about ear buzzing and lack of right channel some time after purchase. I haven't had this issue in my six months of daily use so take it with a grain of salt and remember your consumer rights if the worst happens.

Overall a great headset for the casual listener and newbie musician running through a PC, Phone or MP3 player, you won't really get a lot more out of these on an amp so I'd recommend spending a bit more for something else if you're looking for consumer grade audiophile equipment.

EDIT: Should be known I bought these at a price point of around $75

  • For $46, these are good headphones. Don't bother amping them.

  • I really wish JB didn't use Toll to deliver. Their pickup point is further away than the closest JB :(

  • Got the last one at Hobart for $34.80 after 40% off the ticketed $58. Thanks OP!

  • Nice and flat EQ for guitar practice?
