We're currently on Vocus L3, however, our L2 network is being prepared for launch. We'll be using IP transit from Colocation Australia who peers with over 1000 networks. We expect to have one of, if not the best international transit out of any other provider. We'll be peering directly with Telstra Global, AAPT, Telia, Level 3, Cogent, GTT and NTT. We primarily use Nokia for our BNG's with Juniper MX routing and EX switching. Our L2 network is due to launch closer towards the end of this month.

Our typical evening speed will be adjusted higher next month as well :)

Please feel free to reach out and ask any questions :)

You can also get in touch by raising an e-ticket at https://mungi.online/contact

The boring stuff.

These offers will be expiring on 30/04/2018. Min. total cost for the first month is $59.95 to $79.95. No setup fee based on BYO modem. Our plans do not include a modem. Lifetime modem warranty applies only to the DVA-2800 Modem and as long as you remain a customer. Actual speeds may vary due to many factors including type/source of content being downloaded, hardware and software configuration, the number of users simultaneously using the network and performance of interconnecting infrastructure not operated by Mungi Internet. Devices connected by Wi-Fi may experience slower speeds than those connected by Ethernet cable. Additional once off $300 nbn™ New Development charge applies if your premises is identified by nbn™ as being within the site boundary of a new development.

    Hi everyone,

We'll be around to answer any questions or queries :)

Please note that these prices are for the LIFE of the plan

    • +1

      Please define what

      LIFE of the plan

      means.

Does this mean if for example the price/name changes existing subscribers will need to update to those changes? (other e.g. speed change/backhaul change/fee change)

      • It certainly could be interpreted that way if it went to a court.

    • +20

We're around all the time :)

  • +13

    LIGHTNING 100: Typical evening speed between 7pm – 11pm is 50Mbps download.

    lol

  • The typical evening speed is well below your competitors, why is that?

You mentioned it will be adjusted higher in the future, to what exactly?

    • +2

      I typically get around 70+.

The reason why we haven’t updated it yet is because:
      1. It’s always easiest to under promise and over deliver
      2. We’re getting close to launching our speed monitoring program which will give us a stronger insight for our network

We’re looking at increasing it higher most likely 70Mbps.

      • -4

Wait so typical evening speed is measured by what you in particular typically get?

I assumed it was meant to be measured, is your current 50mbit measured using a tool of some sort?

Also I wouldn't go around making plans for what you will change things to unless you are sure it will be 70 minimum.

        • Currently we’ve been working from customer feedback however if you have any service issues, please feel free to reach out

        • The system that ISPs use to push software updates to their modems, we’ll be using to run automated speed tests around the country.

Really neat way for us to keep an eye on everything plus it allows us to get a instant indicator on a customers maximum line sync and without any posibbillity of interference (poor WiFi, slower network card or damaged cables).

        • @MungiDreamIT:

This goes against the ACCC's Broadband Speed Claims document.

          https://www.accc.gov.au/system/files/CCS%20-%20Broadband%20S…

‘Premium evening speed’ - 100/40 NEBS minimum - Minimum typical busy period speed = 60 Mbps

Here are some important exerpts for you to read.

Method for measuring and verifying busy period speeds

          1. In order to accurately represent to consumers typical busy period plan speeds, RSPs
need to apply a robust approach to measuring speed. This includes the type of speed
measure used, the accuracy and frequency of measurements, and by critically
            assessing the derived measurements.

          Extent of sampling

          1. The samples should comprise no fewer than 75 services that are connected over the
entirety of a 14 day sample period to the relevant plan. These should be randomly
drawn across a broad range of the RSP’s CVCs, save that the composition of
samples for ‘Standard evening speed’, ‘Standard plus evening speed’ and ‘Premium
evening speed’ plans should be moderated so that FTTB/FTTN services are not over
or under represented as a proportion of the overall sample.

          Records to verify testing

RSPs should keep network logs or other records to be able to verify the
representations that have been made to consumers by applying the standardised
labels and in providing any additional quantified measures.

        • @samfisher5986: Just to point out that what you've linked is a guide, it is not a requirement. The ACCC point out that the guide is to promote best advertising practices, and that breaches may constitute false or misleading representations, but does not equate to that necessarily.

There is no requirement that the minimum speed be 60Mb/s at peak times for a 100/40 plan. What you've pointed out is an example of how they want it advertised.

I won't be signing up until that speed is brought up though.

        • @DogGunn:

I probably should have been more specific, when I said "goes against the document" I was talking about the methods of measuring and reporting the data.

Running automated speeds tests while ignoring actual customer usage in my opinion goes against that document while also using customer's Internet connections and bandwidth without their permission

        • @samfisher5986: Fair enough.

I would like clarification on that comment too.

But my assumption is that there might be referring to NBN's RSP portal which allows them to see things like line sync stats and VDSL profiles. As for the speedtests, it's possible that there may be custom software in the NBN NTDs which allow them to run speedtests for the sake of verifying speeds?

        • @DogGunn:

If I'm in the middle of something and someone runs a speed test on my line, I'll be leaving that ISP the next day…

Also speedtests are horribly inaccurate. Quite a few ISP's apply special Quality of Service rules so that your speed test will be put ahead of anyone else on the network.

Basically you can configure the speed test to provide 100mbit speeds during peak hour when your actual speeds are only 70mbit.

        • @DogGunn:

The nbn portal allows us to see an estimated line sync speed however this doesn’t take into account internal wiring and is 9/10 inaccurate.

We also compare customer usage to determine our network speeds

        • @samfisher5986:

I can assure you we won’t apply any QoS towards these tests

      • We’re getting close to launching our speed monitoring program which will give us a stronger insight for our network

So it will give you stronger insight. Will you be releasing this data to the public? Aussie Broadband are very transparent with their CVC usage. Other providers also need to step up to the plate.

        • We could do this, would look quite cool having a map showing this data.

I’ll see what can be done

      • +1

I am on a 100 and only getting 70mbs even in the dead of night or early morning like right now at 5.30am.
At the evenings i dont think i am getting more than 45mbps ever.

        • That doesn't sound great. Which ISP and NBN type are you using?

        • Me too. I was with Optus and now Telecube and I max out at 75mbps down and 36 mbps up with both providers. I live in an old house and the wiring would be really old. Could that be it?

        • @mitch21:

I assume you're on FTTN. FTTN's overall max sync rate does get practically affected by distance to the node. The wiring of your home could affect it only if the copper has degraded or if your house is wired using a very inefficient route.

        • Hmm, are you with Mungi?

Are you able to raise a fault at https://Mungi.online/fault

One of the guys will look into this right away

        • @MungiDreamIT:

Yes I am with Mungi. My last invoice Invoice #666XXX666. You should be able to track customer details from there.
Speeds are fairly consistent up to 75/40 and then usually around 40/30 during peak.

        • @smurfy:

I see. However, have you raised a fault?

I would suggest removing that number and avoid showing it publically.

        1. It’s always easiest to under promise and over deliver

Horrible reason. I'd get those typical speeds fixed ASAP if they are indeed faster.

That alone would put me off instantly if I was looking for a 100/40 plan, no matter how good the customer service.

        • We’ll be updating it today :)

        • @MungiDreamIT:

Sorry but that is the wrong answer.

An ozbargain member mentioned his poor speeds.

I mentioned the proper way to measure the speeds according to the ACCC so you don't mislead customers.

And you just want to throw a random number on your website to mislead customers?

You need to leave it at 50mbit until you publicly post evidence that its higher using methods similar to the ACCC.

  • +2

Do we get a public IP address? If so, is it static or dynamic?
Do you have POP in every capital city e.g. Perth?

    • We’ll be issue CGNAT moving forward, however we will be changing the prices of our static IPs.

Our L2 network will initially launch with Sydney and Melbourne (a few weeks afterwards). Perth will be next to launch sometime around June.

      • Thank you. Will you offer Dymanic for free? I just want an open Nat, doesn’t matter if it’s static or dynamic.

        • Shoot me a PM ;)

  • Questions:
    1. If my area no NBN yet, can I still apply? I heard around june 2018 to get NBN in my area (Oakleigh, VIC) so I don't know it is true or not or delay.
    2. Lighting 50, cost $69.95 + Dlink DVA 2800 $199.95 less $5 every month for LIFE (use code DLINK), so only pay $64.95 per month for LIFE, am I understand correctly?
    3. Is Lighting 50 include phone line/voip for free? or do I need to pay your voice $14.95 per month?
or if I don't want to use your monthly voice $14.95 but just porting my current number to you, is it do able?
use code VOICELITE for free phone service for LIFE and pay as you go?
or use code WHIRLVOICE to get voice down from $14.95 to $9.95, am I right?
    4. Is it free to transfer my phone number to you?
    5. Is the static ip free?
    6. can all the codes above stackable? or how to apply for different code?
    7. "Lifetime modem warranty applies only to the DVA-2800 Modem and as long as you remain a customer", is this mean say after 7 yrs if the modem died then I will get a new replacement modem?
after 15 yrs if technology change and I still continue with your service then I will get an upgrade modem for free?
    8. "Use our VoIP mobile app to make and receive landline calls", what is this mean?

    Thanks

    • Hi there,

      1. You sure can pre-order, one nbn becomes live we’ll get your order submitted and will adjust your billing cycle date.
      2. That’s correct.
      3. You’ll need to add Mungi Voice addon to get VoIP
      4. Sure is free to transfer
      5. We don’t offer static IP addresses for free, I don’t believe any provider does this. IP addresses are slowly being depleted and as a result IP addresses become more and more expensive and valuable.
      6. You can mention in the notes which extra promo codes you want to apply and we can manually adjust this for you.
      7. As long as you remain a customer, then yes.
      8. We have a VoIP mobile app that works on iOS and Android which allows you to receive landline calls anywhere you have a data connection.

Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions :)

  • +8

So no actual discount just the same old promo that's running where if you buy an over priced device from you we get 5 dollars back. So where's the bargain?

Vocus resellers are a dime a dozen . Five dollars off your bill for slow congested vocus is not a bargain

    • buy an over priced device from you we get 5 dollars back.

      And a free ethernet cable.

      • The prices we offer on our hardware are heavily discounted. Which prices are over priced? Would love to get more info on your feedback.

        • It will be nice to have $5 discount per month without purchase the router for OzBargainer.

  • So true unlimited or are you gonna shape me if I decide to max out a 100/40 connection 24/7?

    • +2

you cant max out a Vocus connection 24/7 even if you tried

  • How fast you can transfer HFC?
Also your customer support hours please

    • You’ll need to disconnect your HFC service from your current provider before we can connect you.

Most HFC orders are completed within 4-48 hours.

Our support team offer 24/7 ticket support however our phone and live chat hours are 9-9 AEST Monday to Friday.

We tend to hang around and 8/10 well reply to your chats outside of these hours anyway.

  • +3

"Ozbargain offers" and then the code is WHIRLVOICE sounds like a recycled code! haha

  • +8

Why do ozbargainers give reps such a hard time? Seems unnecessary, you either think it's a bargain or you don't, you don't have to be jerks about it.

    • +1

      Agree!

    • Lots of sad smartarses on here.

    • +2

Why do you think its ok for a business to come on here and advertise their company? The idea is to post a bargain.

Especially when they are offering an inferior service as well as being misleading on the level of service you will get?

If there was an actual bargain then an ozbargain member would have found it and posted it. Since a rep posted it there is a higher standard and there needs to be an actual bargain.

  • +3

I can actually vouch for these guys. The speeds aren't quite on par with AussieBB, but it is significantly cheaper, and they pretty much always respond to any message within 5 minutes or so.

Would recommend checking out the Mungi Whirlpool page if you're curious.

    • Hi Bale,

Thanks for the kind words :)

  • I pay the 75+20 for double bandwidth (turbo) for there 100/40, typical speeds at night are around 80-93 for me.

    • Sounds good :)

  • +2

Been there done that with these guys and must say while there customer service is A1 there NBN service is well not that great really.
Had issues with speed (Higher speeds with telstra & Very Bad congestion at peak times). Moved to ABB and no issue with speed off peak or peak.
Join at your own risk. 50/25 plan (can only get 30 / 12 due to copper no problem as with telstra) but after starting at those speeds managed at best 20 /8 off peak and peak would be on average 12 / 5 and as low as 1 / 6 (yep!), not my router ect its vocus / mungi. asked for a tech to have service checked and never happened after lodging after 3 days into joining. left 3 weeks in with no fix to the issue or a tech sent out (poor Form). Simply speed was poor.

  • +1

I signed up last month, they answered so many of my detailed questions straight away through the online chat and it was the best decision to change from MyRepublic.

MyRepublic I couldn't even login to their online system because I had changed mobile numbers, changing my number took weeks and even then the login still wouldn't work. They raised their 'cheap' prices which was frustrated because I was a customer since basically the beginning. I always had problems with consistent speeds and congestion was terrible.

Mungi on the other hand have been faultless. I don't feel trapped in my plan because I can cancel at any time. I don't find any need to spend the extra $20 for better peak speeds because I consistently have been getting 85-90Mbps download and 25-30Mbps upload even during peak. I did not have to pay setup because of the special, so I would recommend trying it for a month because seeing is believing.

    Happy customer :)

  • Same price as the new normal pay-more-for-less plan MyRepublic are moving me to, ie $70/m for 50/20 unlimited.

    • +1

With no contracts and no setup fees

Plus we provide heaps of initiatives that other providers don't such as support via SMS & Facebook and more

      • With no contracts and no setup fees

        Same same

Also the MR one includes unlimited local and national calls, not that I really want it.

Anyways I’ll keep looking for something that offers better value for my use case.

  • I've been with Mungi on HFC (Hybrid Fibre Cable) for the last few months, and will be staying with them for sure.

For me, the big positives here are:
    1. Mungi is "100% based in Melbourne and owned by Australians".
    2. They have consistently good customer service via screen chat or phone.
    3. No add-on fees
    4. They are definitely looking to get the best service for their users, as shown by the fact that they are currently moving from Vocus L3 to a different L2 network. (As I understand it, this will give Mungi tech team more control over their product.)

As for modem prices, I didn't even have to buy a modem, because the Mungi support guy told me I could connect my Apple AirPort Extreme router directly to the NBN HFC box (i.e., I didn't need an additional modem in between). He sent through a step-by-step support article, showing how to do this using the Apple AirPort Utility application. Plus, gave advice through the process. So Mungi support saved me money, and I've now got a better home wifi network.

    • No add-on fees

there's plenty of add ons, $10 for static ip, $20 if you want 'turbo' internet (aka your actual internet speed… just not as contested with 50 other users on the same speed)

      • The cost of the Static IP will be reduced, however, IPv4 IP addresses are becoming more and more expensive.

Turbo allows us to reach all ends of the broadband spectrum.

This allows our customers to choose their extras whether they want them or not

  • I'm not sure where to ask this, but is torrenting possible with Mungi? Since joining a couple of days ago I can't download a single torrent, tested with many legal torrents such as Linux ISO's etc.

The main issue is that I cannot connect to any trackers, and cannot discover any peers.

Tested on multiple devices. All have the same symptoms.
When I hotspot from my phone it works no problem.
I have reset modem/router to factory settings multiple times.
I have set security on modem/router to minimum.
I even set my laptop to be a DMZ host and fully exposed to the internet.
I have ensured my torrent client is allowed through my devices firewall.

I cannot figure this out at all. Wish I had a spare modem/router lying about.

  • Hi, I have signed up to Mungi and so far I am very happy. The speeds which I use to get on 100/40 with Buzz Telco, I am getting with Mungi on 50/25. Very happy. with both customer service and speeds.
