2270

Hey all it is back again!

I went to Telstra in Fountain Gate today and whilst signing up for the $49 plan (25gb / unlimited Phone & SMS) I looked across the way and saw the same deal at JBHifi but with a $200 gift voucher. I asked Telstra store to help out but they sent me over the road as they couldn't match the deal!

I cannot find a link but I can confirm it is available in all stores [Link added - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/phones/activatenow/]

Bring your existing phone number to Telstra and you'll get 25GB data usage, Unlimited Calls and Txt to Std. Aust Numbers, $10 Monthly Port in Credit

Plus you get a $200 JB Hifi Gift Card

Deal is back on from 11/5/18 - end June (30/6/18). See picture of Bender Banner for proof!

    http://prntscr.com/jgh2qp

    • Does this include the $10 jb rebate?

      • Yes, still $49pm (after $10pm credit on $59 plan), with 25gb pm on a 12m Sim only (port ins only) plus a $200 JB gift card.

        • Couldn't see this at my local Jb. Is this store specific now?

        • +1

@Fiximol: all stores have it available, just head in and ask to speak to the Telco expert in store :) as a possible reason to the lack of info posted around stores, with all the on and off deals JB and Telstra have had, maybe there haven't been many stores keeping on top of merchandising the POS…

We work to print/write/display the offers as soon as we have some free time still, but the deal is on at all stores across AUS!

        • @Dealhunter967671: thanks heaps!

        • @Fiximol: enjoy :)

    • Thanks Monger - added :)

Has anyone signed up with this link? The details on the online signup are not the same as the ones advertised so I'm wondering if this a bug or if they just haven't updated them. It says $59 for 20GB when it is now changed to $50 for 25GB.

  • So this is different to the Google Pixel deal?

    • +4

      Perhaps no phone

    • Yes, and that deal is also a 24m contract.

    • Yes - this is a BYO Phone deal :)

  • +5

I dont think this offer ever finished! I signed up for it last week. Pretty sure it has been a long running deal.. Good value though :)

The deal has been listed here for a while.

They swap in and out with Telstra and online stores I was told today.

    • They change the $$ amount of gift cards

    • +2

Yep never finished, been going for ages.

My sister took it up last week and moved over from Optus.

  • +1

Shame that is is for new to Telstra customers. My contract is almost up and I'm looking at BYO plans and this would have been perfect.

    Thanks for posting though.

    • +9

… get a $2 sim from Vodafone and port out for an hour and then go and sign up for this :)

      • Does it work like that? Confirmed??

        • +1

Have read a few posts where people have recommended it - I have not tried it personally. I can confirm that I had changed to a new plan with OPTUS only a few days earlier before I saw this… That worked fine!

        • Yeah I ported to Optus and then back to Telstra. Unfortunately, it took a few days as they hadn’t processed the port in the backend.

        • +13

Confirmed. I did this a month ago. Waited until the last day of my contract, where on the 24x7 app it said I have no early termination fee's.. then ported to an Optus prepaid SIM. Then the next day I went into JB and signed back up with Telstra on this exact plan.

        • +2

          Confirmed.

Optus was terrible to port through. Hours on the phone being passed on.

Go Vodafone, within the day I was cnnected to them. Next day I switched back to Telstra.

        • You need to first confirm with telstra chat to confirm port out even if you get a connection on your new sim.
Obvious but stating it anyway dont tell the chat employee you are looking to port straight back in. Just say something like some issues with xyz can you please confirm if port has gone through.
I have read on a previous post on OZBargain telstra are clamping down on churning out and churning back in. I think it was on the Pixel phone deal.
Then next day get on this plan.

        • @sn809: Could be true. Although this is the other way around, the last time I did a port out a day later to Kogan after activating a free Telstra prepaid SIM, I got an email from their customer support team asking if it was genuine or not

        • Confirmed I have done this. Literally 1hr on Vodafone.

        • Confirmed, did a few weeks ago for the pixel deal. Ported to Vodafone Saturday evening. Got the pixel plan on Sunday. No issues.

        • Yes. Works exactly like this. I wrote a post about it on a previous deal.
          1. Go to Vodaphone -> Sign up / port to $2 sim. (Takes about 15 mins to activate)
          2. Walk into JB and port back to Telstra.
          3. Enjoy $200 gift card.

        • I had issues doing this.

I was out of contract on Telstra postpaid. I ported out to Amaysim and tried to Port back in the next day. JB said my number was still showing as a Telstra number.

They told me it could take up to 30 days to disappear from the telstra system. I tried again about a week later and it was fine.

Apparently this is an issue if you're on telstra post paid. I've been told if you first move to telstra prepaid, then port to a different company, the issue above shouldn't happen (i.e. you can port straight back if you came from telstra prepaid)

        • +1

          Confirmed working
          did on a SUNDAY (15/04) - took 1 1/2 hrs all up

          $2 Sim from vodafone
went for the lowest prepaid plan possible ($8)
waited 30mins (rebooted phone every 10mins or so)
got bombarded with "welcome to vodafone messages"

walked into JB (Top Ryde NSW)
Asked for the above BYO plan
took Them about 30mins to get the order process and submitted (amongst the sea of shoppers and interruptions)
waited another 30mins - actually left the store ot get something to eat
Came back to jb - chucked the sim in - got bombarded with "Welcome to Telstra SMS"
          $200 Gift Card
high five and i was outta there

        • @marka: If you set up over the phone Vodafone usually is done in 30 minutes. Port back to Telstra takes a bit longer though.

        • My mate at Telstra said they're cracking down on these, they do not accept numbers ported out within the last 3 months.

    • i have the same issue.. begged Telstra LiveChat rep for a deal. She gave me:

$59 for 15gb with 5gb extra and $10 discount, which was $49 for 20gb 12 months. Obviously not as good a deal but reasonable if you can't be bothered to do the port!

  • Why does it say the minimum cost is $708 when 12 * 49 = $588

Is there some charges not apparent ?

    • +1

You get a $10 per month credit from JB Hifi - $59 down to $49

      12 x $10 = $120

  • +2

how is this a good deal compared to the Google Pixel 2 XL where you get a $1000+ mobile too ?

    • Good data, great provider, BYO if you have a phone already, overseas travel included …

      • What do you mean by "overseas travel included" ?.

    • +1

Who said they were comparing deals?

    • This is a 12 month contract with a lower monthly cost, and not everyone wants the Pixel 2 XL.

Personally I am not upgrading until 5G.

    • +2

      link?

      • -1

Literally the top voted deal for the last who knows how lon

  • Is It possible to put the $200 gift card towards your monthly payments??

    • +1

Yeah, sell your gift card in the forums/gumtree.

    • +7

Probably not - but you could sell it off for $180 on a lot of sites and get 3.5 months of your 12 month contract paid for :)

      • just don't send them before getting your $2000

  • +2

I did the JB Telstra deal last month.

** Word of caution! If you are an existing Telstra mobile customer and you port out to a competitor and then port back in, be sure to allow a few days in between porting. I.E Port out today and then port back 3-5 days later.

I ported out and back in on the same day but Telstra’s systems could not handle it and after porting back, my number was active but I couldn’t be found in the system.

Needless to say, I ended up getting a MUCH better deal than the original offer after 2 weeks of complaint and troubleshooting, but it certainly is wasn’t painless dealing with Telstra reps to solve the problem.

For those that care.. As compo and through negotiations, I ended up getting 25gb on a casual month to month (ie no contract) for $29 per month plus the $200 JB voucher :) take it as you will!

    • +2

Could of withdrawled before the second month and practically got an $171 JB Hifi Gift card free. $29 / mo is pretty good for 25GB on Telstra though!

      • +2

Or… since it’s a casual plan, I can still go and do it all over again and get ANOTHER $200 gift card. Downside would mean $20 more per month taking me back to the original deal.

    • -1

B.S. Screenshot of your plan details?

      • Haven’t received a bill yet. In my 24x7 app shows that I’m on $69 per month casual plan. They’ve had to apply multiple $10 credits per month to provide the discount since they offered something that is not a standard plan.

I’ll send you a screen shot of my bill once it arrives to prove it.

      • Nah that would only get him in trouble

      • I can show you a screenshot of my email confirmation from complaints team confirming it. Not sure how to attach here within post.

        • then try to use it to get a similar deal for himself?

        • @JackyS:

won't be trying anything over here. 100% doubt he is paying Telstra $29/mth for 25gb with no contract and a $200 gift card. I'm just saying that's BS unless he can prove he's not lying. People do sometimes make things up…

        • +1

@tromboc: Help me with instructions on how to post a screenshot on here and I’ll prove it… not that I have to, after all, I’m the one happily paying monthly bill.

        • @mrmaltalian: you can upload your screeshot on imgur, then share the URL here.

        • @hvn: thank you!

        • +1
        • -3
      • Yeah im calling BS on this, $29 a month and no contract…

        • +2

          https://imgur.com/a/lAVQX

i did enjoy. had a good laugh.

        • @tromboc: As I said before, I’m the one enjoying the plan at that price and not you, so you can hate all you want. Anything grammatically incorrect in my image post was from the rep not me.

        • -3

          @mrmaltalian:

LOL I'm not hating anything or anyone no need to be so defensive over your pretend mobile plan.

    • I ported out and back in in less than 1 hour.

    • @ mrmaltalian
WTF $29 dollar plan +25 GB data +$200 Giftcard + No contract
      That's a damn good bargain

What was your complain and how did you managed to get Telstra to offer the above deal?

      • Upon porting back in, Telstra mistakenly set my account up as a business account which was not supposed to happen. As a result, they couldn’t find my account but my number was active. Long story short, it took them 2 weeks to find the number, close the business account and reopen a new personal account. They honoured the JB deal and then compensated further because of all of the stuffing around.

        • NB - JB gave me the $200 voucher prior any of the issues. Telstra only dealt with the plan.
  • Do you think it's possible to still upgrade this plan to friends and family with Pixel 2 phone?

    • +2

Yes its possible as someone apparently got it here:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5833377/redir

But I would say its risky and a good chance you might not get it.

      • I did try it and could not get the upgrade to the Pixel 2 XL (yet)
        I will keep trying!

I am currently on the Kogan 365 Day 23gb plan , due to end sometime toward the end of the year (September maybe). It was perfectly fine for me however, I have started working in the middle of nowhere and rarely get reception. If I go with this Telstra deal, what will happen to my Kogan plan? Am I able to let someone else use it seeing as I've already paid in full for it or does it just disappear?

I've been looking to buy a fitness tracker/smart watch and the Fitbit Versa has just come out at JB so I am thinking about this may work quite well.

    • Mostly will just disappear… Once you port out, your account gets deleted off of Kogan's system

    • you can transfer only to another number under your name. i had the same issue with kogan so i cancelled it and refunded remainder.

      • @TarquinOliverNimrod You can cancel and get the remainder refunded?? That's awesome I didn't know that

        • you have to push for it and explain your issues. i couldn't use their service for a week

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

Do they ask for evidence of this? Would like to transfer my number to telstra.

        • @R3XNebular: they did an ïnvestigation that said nothing was wrong. but i pushed hard and they allowed it

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

I work in an office building in the city. Cannot get Vodafone reception but I can get telstra hopefully that is sufficient. Will call them and advise them.

        • @R3XNebular: check their coverage maps. If it says you should be getting coverage that may be your out

        • +1

@TarquinOliverNimrod: I was able to get a refund and cancel the remainder of my 365 day plan quite easily. All it took was two phone calls to say that I wasn't getting service in an area that was covered and they said that I could get a refund and cancel if needed.

Now, I've signed up to Telstra through JB and used my $200 giftcard on a fitbit Versa. Happy as

        • @Pub Envelope: some people had luck going into a telstra store and "upgrading" this plan to the one with the google pixel xl 2. maybe give that a go for further $$

    • I'm in the same situation. Would like to cancel my plan.

  • Does one actually need to physically visit a store, or can it all done online via the link? The form mentions EOI so not too sure

    • Not sure - I did instore

      • Did you get the gift card on the spot?

        • +1

          Sure did!!

  • +1

I ported my number 2 weeks ago for the google pixel deal 2 days after signing up called telstra live chat Asked them for the extra 5gb and $10 of my monthly bill no problemo.

    • I am thinking to get $59 pixel 2xl, do you get $10 of per month with extra 5gb ? for 24 months

    • Off the Pixel deal? How'd you go about that? So you signed up to a $59/month deal, then immediately requested a $10 discount and a 5GB bonus? I don't doubt you, by I can't understand why they would do that when you're locked into a contract.

      • +1

I just told them my friend had received it and I wanted the same deal.I was surprised it was that easy myself.

        • Very tempting

        • Can you be my friend, it saves my money.

There is a clause saying you can "upgrade your plan". Not downgrade. But upgrade is allowed (from 12 months $49 per month to 24 months $59/$49 per months, depends if you get the $10 discount). I don't know, but I suspect there is also a Cooling Off period for new contracts. And it's good customer service to keep their customers happy.

    • Cheers mate, did the same and I got an extra 10 off a month :)

Make sure to tell them that you ported across as that is what gets you the extra 10 off a month.

  • +1

This is a truly good deal

Telstra 4G is seriously good. I get around 200mb here in little Kalamunda (25km from Perth CBD) and can surf, get emails etc on the road from Parabadoo airport to Tom Price in the Pilbara - which is basically as remote as it gets without going offroad

    • A big deciding factor for me too! I was recently on the road through Kondinin / Corrigin etc where I had no reception with Optus but if I had Telstra I would have had it the whole way!

  • +1

Not a bad deal. If you factor in the $200 JB HiFi card and $90 AFL live pass saving, it brings this plan down to $24.83/month!

    • +3

Don’t forget to factor in the 6 months Apple Music subscription as well if you have an iPhone!

      • +4

You don’t need an iPhone for Apple Music. Works on android too!!

        • +1

          Cool I never knew that!

  • +7

All very lovely but if you're overseas a lot, Voda's $5/day roaming still trumps everything.

    • -1

True - but at what cost at home? $10 a day with 200mb data for a massive list of countries and $5 a day in NZ for the convenience of a great service at home is worth it for me :)

      • +2

Well, for me, my plan costs $35/month. I spend an average of 7-10 days overseas each month and so my total bill is still just $70-$80 or so, and I use my phone to do whatever I want. I can hotspot my laptop off my phone in backwaters like Chennai and not get smashed with data costs. It's a no-brainer.

        • Anyone tried Fon Global Wifi overseas? I was told it's like Telstra Air Wifi. Fon Global Wifi is also free for Telstra customers. Any good?
