Why they don't have Hot & Spicy available all year around boggles the mind. It's much better than the regular.

    • +14

      They do…in decent states.

      • +35

People outside QLD (and WA it seems) are unable to handle the spicy flavours.

        ;)

        • +8

Shots fired. How dare you, sir.

        • +4

Well with their deconstructed pumpkin spice lattes its not wonder :P

        • +8

haha, although i think if you look at the demographics, Sydney and Melbourne will have the most amount of people who would be able to handle hot and spicy food..

        • NT always has it too, born tough

        • Such a spicy comment

      • No it VIC.. r u saying VIC is not decent?

        • +6

Victoria Garends store has it all year around

        • +3

@unity1: why are people downvoting him??? It is true victoria gardens store has it all year round

        • @unity1:
but I can't be bothered having to drive all the way to Vic Gardens just to get this :(

        • @lyon: Go to IKEA while you're there.

      • Apparently the QLD KFC stores are owned/run by a different company than the stores in NSW and VIC. Which is why Hot and Spicy as well as 9 piece Tuesday's are available all year round here, they choose to stock the hot and spicy coating. It's also why vouchers for NSW are not usually valid for QLD. On top of that some stores in NSW are franchised or company stores and some owners may choose to stock the coating.

      • +6

You get it in QLD and WA in order to balance out the negative of actually having to live in either state.

        ;)

        • +1

That's bold… though I guess we aren't likely going to travel to Vic just to avenge ourselves - and certainly would never be there by choice.

          <no wink/>

          fine …I feel bad … have a smiley :)

        • @SlickMick: Nah you're all good… as long as you aren't from… Tasmania…

    • +14

Apparently they do in Vic Gardens melbourne.

      • I went there it wasn't Hot or Spicy. Crispy coating though but lacked flavour.

        • +10

The heat of H&S has died a LOT in the past decade. Back in the early 2000's it was much hotter and spicier. I think it also depends on who flavours the chicken at the store, it's pretty hit and miss these days.

Still, it's so much better than OR.

        • +3

@Ghost47: The chicken comes pre-marinated by the supplier, it is dumped straight into plain flour and then shaken in a basket. Then dunked in water and back into the flour, that gives you the little crispy bit that kinda look like corn flakes.

The process is extremely regimented so the end product is as consistent as possible.

Differences can come down to how old/dirty the oil is, or sometimes luck, that more of the marinade got trapped in when it is breaded

        • +1

@kxy1983s: Ahh I see, thanks for the info.

I guess that's the reason why it's not as spicy these days — because of the supplier. It used to be a lot hotter 10+ years ago. Still, I won't pass it up!

      scoffs

Lol @ "return" of hot and spicy chicken. We've always had hot and spicy in Brisbane ;)

        • +10

You need all that money to deal with your overcrowded population, roads and housing!

        • +4

nobody cares about QLD. Its either NSW or VIC that matters.

Yes, which explains why we're having a massive influx of migrants from the south…

C'mon alizarin, clearly you're from NSW or VIC, that's why you're ashamed to display your location ;)

"Rest of the states just get fed from the other states revenue"

Assessed Revenue from each state (Assessed revenue per capita):
          WA: $10040 / capita
          NSW: $7514 / capita
          VIC: $6993 / capita

State shares of Australian Govt payments ($/capita)
          NSW $1247
          VIC $1126
          WA $1374

GST Revenue returned to each state:
          VIC $2377 / capita
          NSW $2235 / capita
          WA $878 / capita

        • +1

@Tiggrrrrr: gotta love the GST we're getting in WA

        • +5

          @Jetship:

Sorry I was using out of date figures (2013). Here are the figures for 2017-18: (Source)

State shares of Australian Govt payments ($/capita):
          (SPP / GST = Total)
          WA $2345 / $801 = $3146
          VIC $2078 / $2360 = $4438
          NSW $2166 / $2373 = $4539

Yes. Definitely looks like VIC/NSW are supporting us over in WA ???

        • -2

@Tiggrrrrr: Dude. Your (profanity) state government is broke.

        • I meet a lot of NSW and Vic folk in Qld - do you meet many Queenslanders down there?

If we took the Queenslanders out of Storm there would be no reason to go there.

        • @Munki: Yes. From supporting the rest of the country. Hence the point of my figures above. WA provides the federal government a higher revenue per capita, but gets a markedly lower government payment per capita.

In government payments, NSW gets $4539 per capita. WA gets $3146 per capita.

      • +1

100% correlation between more relaxed, easy going people in QLD and availability of Hot n Spicy all year round.

Also strong correlation between migration to QLD from interstate.

        • I wasn't sure what the go is with hot and spicy - it's always out of stock every I go (Qld).

KFC secret herbs and spices was the best until hot and spicy - now the original tastes bland.

    • +4

Sydney town hall store has them all year round and it's the only reason I go there for it.

      • One good thing about working in the CBD.

      • +1

So does the Chinatown one and the one near UTS.

        • Sometimes I will go to UTS to visit friends as an excuse to buy a bucketload of hot and spicy chicken.

      • it gets smashed though. every time there is somewhat of a promotion it goes nuts and waits can be like 30+ min.
I go there just for that H&S too!

        • sounds like Qld. "You can wait 40 minutes for H&S, or I'll throw in a free popcorn nuggets with original".

Warning: don't take the deal. It isn't a bucket of popcorn chicken! I thought they were really sorry, but it was only a token :(
(I honestly thought I was going to have a feed of popcorn nuggets and leave the original for leftovers. Biggest disappointment of my life.)

      • And in Artarmon next to BP :)

    • +1

Apparently they don't generate enough sales in most stores.

It's down to their poor marketing, not many people like spicy, but people do like crispy. Should call it spicy and crispy or spy-crisp.

    • +1

Market throttling. Look how popular Krispy Kreme's are within the first few months of opening. Then when people know its always going to be there, they lose interest.

Make something limited and bring it back sporadically, keeps people coming in droves.

      • Yep, scarcity - one of the basic tools of marketing

    • reads comment while eating hot n spicy…is in Darwin

    • We've had in the the NT for almost 20 years, when I went to Coffs Harbour, NSW I couldn't believe that the only chicken I could get was Original flavour I was like wow a lot of thing sucks living in the NT but at least we have Hot and Spicy 365 days a year and can have it any time.

    • +1

For those wondering about all year round stores in NSW.

"Thank you for your inquiry about our KFC products.

The hot and spicy is currently running in the below stores only.

      In NSW these stores include

      1. Artarmon
      2. Broadway
      3. Chatswood
      4. Dulwich HIll
      5. George St, CBD
      6. Haymarket
      7. Lindfield"
    • I don't think it's better as it makes me cry. Too hot for me to handle. Even the wicked wings make me tear up.

  • +2

What?? Hot and Spicy is not available all year around?? I've always been able to get Hot and Spicy chicken at every KFC outlet in WA I've been to (I don't like the Originals)

    • +3

Not in Victoria. If I want anything remotely like that, I have to get a Zinger… which is the only thing I eat from KFC.

      • +3

Just researched it. I only knew this… wow, I could not imagine living without Hot & Spicy accessible all year round (wicked wings are my fave snack). So proud to be living in Perth :')

        • Well, we have Wicked Wings all year, so that's something. I usually get the Zinger box with Wicked Wings. But you can't get the big pieces with Hot and Spicy skin.

        • +2

@flaminglemon: oh not bad then. But still cant beat biting into a big piece of juicy hot and spicy thigh. Damn, my mouth is salivating now…

    • +1

In some countries hot & spicy isn't available at all, any time of year. My friends over in London binge on hot & spicy when they visit family in Perth.

    • Not every WA outlet has hot and spicy unfortunately. I know Rockingham City doesn't.

  • +4

I don't understand why they can't have this running all year. :(

    EDIT: Duplicate post.

    • They really should, $5 lunch is not too bad compared to a plain salad from coffee which may cost more than $5 - 6

      • that's a strange comparison… it's not bad compared to a bottle of motor oil too, but I won't be choosing either of those alternatives

        :)

  • +1

You beauty. Just omw to lunch now.

    • +2

      It's tomorrow

      • Today for QLD and WA.

      • +1

        Queensland :)

      • Another reason why Queensland wins. Sure, you can ride our coattail WA.

  • My local KFC always have Hot and Spicy in NSW

    • +4

Theres only a select few in NSW they do it all year round.
      Artarmon comes to mind.

      • Yeah that's the one I was referring to :D

      • +1

Also the one at George St, Town Hall. All my local KFC don’t have them :(

        • Any in Hills District in Sydney have them all year round?

Also, I'm assuming you can buy a 2pc/3pc feed and replace original with hot n spicy?

      • I didn't know about this!?!
Normally just go to Chatswood but Artarmon isn't far to go for a fix ;)

      • That's good to know! Will be visiting there very soon…

      • +3

We need a NSW master list.

        Sydney Town Hall
        Artarmon
        Chatswood
        Chinatown
        UTS KFC

        Any out west?

        • +1

Chatswood isn't on the list - that's just the one I normally go to that doesn't have H&S.

        • +1

          Lindfield as well
Chatswood Westfield has H&S, but Chase does not

        • umm what, why can I not edit this post?

        • +1

          @RtN:

Once someone replies to your comment, it can't be edited.

        • @ozhunter: Thanks!

        • @RtN:

though you can still edit that comment, as it's not like indented lol.

Also I think you only have an hour to edit a comment.

        • +1

Dulwich Hill! That's my local which has H&S all year round!

        • +1

          @jinx405:

That's one I haven't heard of! Thank you!

  • +3

    2x for tomorrow lunch.

    • 2x? Hi fatty :P

      • +6

I could eat 4 of them.

        • -1

          You fatty boombah

  • i thought the only hot & spicy was in town hall, sydney within NSW.
Amazed to hear its anywhere else and I guess they only bring it out on certain months or whatever so they can attract interest

anyway assuming this deal means hot & spicy will be available or is it only if you purchase this box which is still good value :)
wish they had a KFC near Barangaroo but nope, have to contend with all the poshy places and theres a chicken place which everyone says is better than KFC but geez its expensive lol fk that haha

    • +4

belles hot chicken is pretty good

      but not $16 good

better off walking to the nearest KFC and grabbing a box of wicked wings

      • i tried the more spicier option and damm i couldn't eat the thing just too hot lol but yeah $16 fk that i'd just get a dinner for 2 @ kfc for $20 lol

      • somebody needs to tell nandos their chicken isn't that good.

        it is really good though.
But their prices are more like a restaurant than takeaway.

    • +1

Belle's is SO overrated. They used to be on mealpal which made it a bit better but not anymore…

  • +12

Never mind the Hot and Spicy, bring back the Tabasco chicken!

    • +1

The sticky one was pretty damn good! That sweet sticky sauce with the h&s chicken was yum!

    • Bring back the KFC tacos.

    • +5

      Bring back the Zinger Pies!!

      • +1

Zinger pies are why pies were invented

    • +1

      bring back the Tabasco chicken!

The actual chicken wasn't as spicy as HnS. But the regular Tabasco sauce was good.

      • It wasn't as hot but the flavour was quite nice.

    • +1

Bring back my waistline since discovering OzBargain!

      • Thats but a distant memory since the kfc, dominos and hungry jacks vouchers posted here. Learn to live with it.

    • I disagree, it was disgusting.

    • +2

      Bring back John Howard!

      • Did he come in hot & spicy?…
