Thanks TA. More data, more smarta.

    (Yeah, that was bad)

    • +13

      Here's your marketing degree.

    • *darta

    • +1

      More data, more smarta.

      Less data, tighter arsa.

      • +2

        More scab, less flab.

        • More monkey, less funky.

        • @Scab: more Wystri = more love.

    • +1

Alternately, "More Darter, More Smarter" would also not have resulted in point reductions.

    • +1

      Sparta!

  • +2

thx, will be helpful for next 3 months :)

  • +1

will you be considered as new customer if you port out then in?

    • +1

      yes

    • +7

The last promo (free sim that had to be activated by end of March), it started out allowing people to activate without porting in, and didn't matter if you were a new customer. Toward the end they started enforcing the restrictions. I personally tried to port out to Telstra and back in (same day, next day, then day after) and was unsuccessful. I WAS able to activate a brand new Telstra prepaid number and port that in.

Someone else said they had ported out for a couple weeks and weren't able to port back in (actually, they were able to after calling customer service, but the online system rejected their attempt to use the voucher with the mobile number that had previously been with Kogan).

I'd wager that if you've been away longer than a month, you might be considered a new customer (if not, maybe customer service would let you get away with it "this one time" or refund you). If you try porting out and back in the next day, don't expect it to work.

      • I ported out from kogan to Telstra and back to Kogan fine on the Tuesday just before Easter. The only issue I had was when I ported to Telstra I didnt put on the new Telstra sim card to activate before I ported back to Kogan. As a result when Kogan tried to retrieve the number back from Telstra it was not activated. So had to wait overnight.

    • I know it says new customers on the page, but do they not just effectively email you a voucher (top up) code? Wonder if it would work on existing…
Meh, I'm considering the 2 for 1 365 day plan option at this point anyway, still curious though.

      • +2

Nope!. The voucher may be valid for use on their side, but won't be valid online when you attempt activation if you have had an account with them within the last 30days/month.
I got stung with this recently after porting out to Telstra for 2 weeks, then trying to port back in. They eventually activated it from their side as a 'Grace & Favour' thing (which I greatly appreciated).

        • Do they use the mobile number or email address to work out if you've had an account with them in the last 30 days/month? That is, can I use the same email address for multiple ported numbers for these promos or since I've created an account with one email address I'm seen as an "old" customer and therefore can't use these deals?

        • @bdl:
From my experience, they keep details of the number you are porting in for (at least) 30 days.
If you have another number to port in that hasn't been in their systems for that time, it might work.
          I cannot say.

        • @tyrotex: Thanks for your reply - the numbers I have are old mobile broadband Telstra numbers which haven't seen Kogan before so should work :) I've already done one, going to try the others. Thanks again.

      • +5

Yeah it says invalid voucher when you try to use it on an existing account. Just tried it.

  • +4

To buy now or wait until they're offered for free again? Tough choice..

  • +2

Be wary they've made the ID process a bit more complicated, meaning they actually verify the info you enter vs just verifying the ID is legit like they used to.

    • yeh i noticed that a few months back.

    • +7

      Not following.

      • I think he means now they actually verify your ID, instead of just checking if the data you were entering was deemed valid. It didn't matter whether it was tied to you or not.

    • And what does it mean?

  • Become free next week? Or weeks after?

  • I've got $10 in referral account credits but I can only add one of these to cart. Will the left over credit be saved or do I have to use all $10 at once?

    • You will have residual credit.

    • +2

Minimum spend is $35 for the referral credit.

Powered by Vodafone!!….Vodafone network drops every now and then even in the Sydney CBD.

    • +4

Fine for me in Adelaide. Streams music and video happily on my train commute so that's all I care about.

    • +9

Individual experiences with all telcos can vary for every location and even on different phones… as always.

    • +1

still, it's better than optus, and 90% cheaper than Telstra

    • -2

      Vodafail actually phailing?

    • Does your phone have all the Vodafone 4G bands?

      • I have tried different handsets One+, Iphone 6 and Xiomi Mi Max. My experience with Vodafone has not been good….It drops in certain parts of the city for me.

        • +1

I am also in Sydney CBD and Vodafone 4G has been great. Only time I have dropped signal is when I used an unlocked Optus phone without one of the Voda 4g bands. I think the missing 4g band causes a dropped signal when I'm between Voda cell towers. To be fair, Vodafone was atrociously bad a few years back, but now they have upped the number of their cell towers and speed and a Kogan sim in a phone with all Voda 4g bands works flawlessly for me.

  • -1

You need to cancel before the 30 days else they charge you the regular price ($50 or whatever) even if you have ticked the do not remember my credit card details box.

    • -1

Yep, I got rekt by that. Serves me right for not checking the T&Cs/account details I guess

      • +3

That's odd, I've gone through 20+ of these SIMS and it's never once auto-recharged.

        • Well, 1/1 have done it for me. Activated in March.

        • +1

          @FTTNope:

That's odd, seems it would be a breach of T&C if you unselect "Auto-recharge" (not remember my card details). You should contact them and see why that is.

      • +2

Happened to me too. I assumed prepaid but they have an auto recharge checked by default

    • +1

Doesn't sound like prepaid then. But what I'd expect from Kogan.

    • -2

someone should update the post to reflect that

    • +7

The foolproof way is to log in and remove your payment method.

    • +9

      What do you mean?

Mine is set to not auto recharge and it doesn't bill my credit card.

    • untick auto-recharge at sign-up, or anytime afterwards in MyAccount…

    • +1

You tick do not remember the cc details AND uncheck auto recharge box.

  • How is Vodafone reception in regional Victoria? I live in the Gippsland area and have heard bad things about Vodafone. Is it really that bad?

    • +3

I've used mine in Traralgon and it's works in about 80% of the town.

      • +4

Traralgon and it's works in about 80% of the town

So it works in the town square's public toilet?
That's great to know, thanks hobo88.

      • Thanks. I live near Traralgon so I might give it a try.

  • New customer means have to port in from other provider or we can simply activate the sim card with new number?

  • I remember in the previous Kogan post someone was saying that we werent considered new unless you ported out for over a month, to discourage the "sim-sluts". Currently nearing the end of my free 23gb, next up is the $5 Catch one. Would be sweet if I could port back into this one after Catch.

  • Can someone explain how the Kogan 365 day plans work?
If I bought a plan, what happens after the end of the year? Do I buy another 365 days manually?

    • At the activation steps you are given the option of auto renewing to a 365 day plan at the end of your subscription. If you uncheck the auto option you just end up with no service on day 366

  • +4

This has been my home's source of internet for the past 6 months. Much cheaper than what ISP's offer and getting 10x the speed of what I got with ADSL2+.

    • Hi. Could you please tell me if you use this Kogan sim card/plan in a Mobile Broadband Modem or do you Hotspot from a phone? I would prefer to use this card in a Mobile Modem if it will work.Thanks.

      • +1

        Phone is fine.

        • Thanks for your reply but I don't want to use a phone but would like to set it up in a little modem…if it will work in one?

        • +2

@Global Nomad: Currently using it with my phone, USB-tethering. Have tried using it on the portable usb modem however I had issues connecting to 4G with it. On top of that, the usb modem gave me higher latency, which isn't great for gaming. A proper sim card modem may give better results though.

      • +1

I put it to Vodafone modem R216h and works fine.
Any other modem supporting 4G 850MHz would be fine.

      • +1

Been fine with the "Optus 4G" (Huawei E3372) USB stick modem.
        Also, phone is fine.

  • I'm half way through my first month with Kogan and WOW it is terrible.
Apparently I've managed to use 6% of my 23GB of data but I find that hard to believe because I've hardly even managed to load a website the coverage is so bad. Granted, I'm in Darwin but I was also in Townsville and it was even worse there.

    • Android has data tracking per app.

    • Found Kogan (voda) to be very fast in the areas that i have used it.

    • It's been really great for me in Sydney

    • +1

      North QLD internet is shite

    • +1

I'm in Darwin too, had to leave Voda (Kogan) as the data never worked :(. Went to Telstra and been perfect.

  • Dam. Just bought the Lebara sim

    • +5

      Thanks for letting us know.

  • Thanks just in time for Visitors.

  • +3

Hmmmmm. Wonder WTF I am going to do with a 4th active number :/ ??? But this deal is sooo tempting. Already have my main number, then 2nd number for gumtree use (so I dont give main number to strangers) , then activated another optus $30 sim (cost $5) , just so I could get $20 free Uber.

    • +6

Professional. You should be promoted to Power User.
I wouldn't be surprised if the mods are talking about you right now.

      • I'm sure I've heard that somewhere before ;).

    • you can always ask the network to terminate the number.

what I do with some numbers I infrequently use is that I transfer them to amaysim "as you go" plan and put them on postpaid. this way you don't have so many prepaid numbers.

    • How do you use more than two numbers, do you swap sims or have two duel sim phone's?

      • +1

I was buying/selling/repairing phones for a while, so I still have plenty laying round. If you are looking for something cheap (but still fairly usable) for yourself to have an extra number or 3…. I would suggest something like a Samsung s3/s4 with maybe home button not working, or cracked (but working) screen. These can be had for around $30 on ebay/gumtree. Certainly not the best phones, but still quite usable for basic use.
If you like iphones, the iphone 5 (say with working cracked screen, or 1 button not working) would have a value of about $50-$60 atm on ebay, and again still OK phones, for anyone that wants an extra service, but doesn't need the latest full featured smartphone for $1000.

    • Hey mate just regarding the free Uber, I tried a brand new sim + number but used the same cc details (as PayPal option resulted in error on Uber for some reason) and it keeps coming up with error when I try to book a ride. I’m wondering if that’s because I have used that same credit card in my previous Uber account? When you got your free Uber on new number, did you successfully do it using a previous cc? Or did yo use a new payment method also? Please let me know, thanks!

I'm fed up dealing with Koganmobile. Their authentication system won't pass me. Have tried calling them and they can't seem to figure it out.

    • I seem to have problems with ID authentication using medicare card. For whatever reason, license works every time, medicare card failed a fee times recently. Try license or passport. I was on phone with optus yesterday, and the operator commented ID had come back OK after check, so I think it is a necessary requirement ie. They cannot proceed with any activation without the ID check through some government system, coming back with authentication.

  • +5

When I look at the disarray of used & expired Kogan sims on my table, I sometimes wonder if I have a problem. I feel so dirty … but I just can't stop.

  • Any suggestions on where to port out of kogan, cheaply?

im still on kogan from the last deal.

  • Voucher expires on 31 July but when will the promo end?
