Apple iPad Gen 5 2017 9.7" $399 ($360.14 with AmEx Delivered or $349 Pickup) @ Retravision

240

Currently Retravision website has ipad gen 5 2017 for $399 stacked with Amex offer. It's not a bad deal. Cellular, ipad pro, minis are also available but unless you can split the payment in store, they will be less of a bargain.

  • Retravision are still around?!?! Mine shut like 15 years ago, I assumed they went bust.

Note they only have physical stores in SA, SA and NT

Btw might want to fix that ;)

If you sign up their newsletter, you might get additional 5% off

    • Doesn't seem to be valid for this product. I assume because it's on sale.

Note: If you can get Catch gift cards at good prices, iPad's can be a bargain there too. The 2017 model ranges from $389-$399. The 2018 model is at $440

    • Hmm thanks for pointing out. Aus Post have 10% off Catch cards from 30/4 so the 32gb 2017 model for $389 works out to be a smidge over $350. Do you reckon there could possibly be a cheaper deal? Wanting to upgrade my son’s ancient iPad but not in a hurry.

Catch iPad's are grey imports. "Direct Import of International Model Sold and delivered by F Digital".

I'd rather purchase local stock for not much more, for example - Apple education discount for those that are eligible ($439), Officeworks ($459) or BigW ($459). There are a few places you can get your hands on discount Wish Gift Cards which would bring the iPad from BigW down to $436.

      • Thanks SydEP. I didn't notice that about the ones on Catch. What are the differences between the international model, and Australian model?

Been awhile since been in the apple/iOS scene

Can you still jailbreak these ipads to put cydia on it and apps from elsewhere then the app store?

    • i think a big part of owning apple is the ios updates for many years so jailbreak on a new device would kill that a bit …..you’d get an older used ipad that doesn’t get ios updates anymore for about $140 if you wanted to jalbreak one rather than spend $400 on a new one.

  • dear fellow ozbargainers/iOS fans,
I have been an android fellow since it was released - but because of ozb I bought an iPad to test out what it's like in the dark side.
The iPads have its goods (and bads) - but I wonder if there is any online material that helps me to get more familiar with how iPad works as compared to Android tabs? e.g. watching movies and listening to music files which I copy from my Windows desktop ?

    • Unlike android you can't drop files in…everything works via iTunes, one of the reasons I gave apple away along time ago. ITunes is your go to between the iOS device and files.

    • Whilst yes i believe you always have to use iTunes, i think the process is relatively simple.

Plug iPad into PC -> Open iTunes -> Browse Applications -> Select your Media player app -> Browse your folders/folders where media is stored and select the files you want to drop on.

    • nPlayer to stream from desktop

or SHAREit to directly copy into nPlayer from either mac/pc/android

  • Need to sort out the Amex Card!
