    mobile phone.
most people don't need a wrist watch these days…

    • +21

agree lots of people stop wearing watches now. still some wear them, this one's for them.

    • +4

Many people don’t wear a wrist watch. I am feeling old as I still like to use one. I don’t like the look of a person eg PE teacher, fast food worker… pulling out a mobile phone to check the time. It looks like they’re checking for messages and don’t have their minds on the job.

    • +3

I'm the kind that wears a wristwatch 24/7. I find it a hassle pulling out a phone each time I need to look at the time (often). I don't like changing watch batteries. I like being able to tell the time without pressing a button even in total darkness. I like it when my watch gains or loses time, over time, and I can set the time to correct it. I like a second hand that sweeps continuously. And I like them waterproof so I don't need to take them off to shower or swim. I like not to worry about scratching them. I like automatic mechanical watches! I like Invicta Prodivers!

    • +1

      I find your logic flawed.
We also don't really NEED to wear pants but most people still wear pants.

      • I'm pretty sure if you caught me out in public without pants on you'd change your mind. :p

  • +4

OP - how about you start?

    • +3

As someone who has worked at TRS for 4 years, I don't recall ever having watches in stock

      • +4

        Guess you just weren't watching.

Casio F91W is pretty great. Around $10, light and comfortable, pretty bulletproof, easily replaceable if its lost or damaged. Looks pretty neat too

SKMEI for the even more budget conscious people. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/brand/skmei

    • +3

the old style look, works well. casio got the price and looks right with this one.

    • Yep it's my go to for an active day.

Love it. Bulletproof. King of watches.

    • -1

I was about to get that until I saw this on wikipedia :(
"According to secret documents issued to interrogators at Guantanamo Bay, obtained[6] and released by The Guardian, "the Casio F-91W digital watch was declared to be 'the sign of al-Qaeda' and a contributing factor to continued detention of prisoners by the analysts stationed at Guantanamo Bay."

Ended up withna gshock from the last deal posted.

    • Great watch and I used it for many years.

I've recently graduated to the W-96H. It's more expensive, but still can be had for under $30.

The W-96h has bigger digits and the body, while more bulky has a smoother, rounded shape. The buttons are larger and rounded plastic - easier to use and don't catch on my sleeves.

    • I used to have two of these bad boys when I was a football referee. Indestructible and god I was stylish running around with a watch on both arms.

    • Second this! I'm a physiotherapist and wear one of these everyday. Superlight weight and they last for ages.

    • The proto-G shock. 10% of the price but most of the toughness.

    • haha! @wyrmy. Avoiding because of the al-Qaeda deal?
I get to brag to my friends that my watch is so reliable that they use it to detonate bombs.

  • +1

    Casio A178WA-1A for me.
It does the job, light weight and I like the look of it.

Pretty sure I got it from this deal:

      thats a nice one.

I hire a very small man to follow me around all day and shout the time at regular intervals

    • +1

      How small is very small?

      • +22

        Unsettlingly small

        • +4

"I think I left the oven on" unsettling? or "Why are all the crows dropping out of the sky" unsettling?

        • +34

          @fLamous:

"The 90's were almost 30 years ago" unsettling.

        • +12

@iforgotmysocks: You've just single handedly ruinded my day.

        • +3

          @iforgotmysocks:

(profanity) hell. I was mid dropping a log when I read this and I stopped in shock for a bit.

        • -1

          @nurries: It's OK, they weren't even 20 years ago.

    • Me too. He's so small he fits around my wrist and talks using light waves on an LCD screen

  • +2

Previous SKMEI deal that was on here: It's a great watch, much better than Kmart etc for $8 shipped Link

    • I can't seem to find any stock anywhere :(

      • sup, Seems to be okay, it's on eBay so lot's of stock available. Link

        • Thanks mate! Might just have to get one.

    • +1

      Beautiful watch.

    • +1

Isn't this like a $100,000+ watch? I'm assuming it's not actually a daily wristwatch for you or anything, but it is pretty amazing.

      • I would consider it a favourite, but I definitely don't own one :(

  • +4

Hard to go past a Casio digital for all-around value.

  • +8

Seiko 5 for the value conscious person who appreciates a mechanical watch (and never wants to change batteries).

    • -1

      Looks like a rolex

    • Nice. Thats my price range too. Will see around Sydney CBD for these.

      • +1

        What? eBay, fam.

    • I suppose I'll eventually get a Seiko 5 because its a great watch, unfortunately, they remind me of smarmy shopkeepers in Sim Lim square, so I keep putting it off.

  • +1

    Terry wristwatch

  • +1

Casio MQ-24-7E. Nice clean, minimal looking watch.

    • I have the MQ-24-7BLL. It cost me just over 5 pounds

  • +3

A knockoff Daniel Wellington (too cheap to buy a real one). I like the minimalist look

    • +1

I thought DW watches were already cheap!

If you're going to wear a knock off watch, at least choose one that is a knock off of an expensive watch! lol

      • +3

A knock off of a cheap watch is super cheap!

I dont want to pay $400 for a fake rolex. I want to pay $30 for a fake version of the $200 watches I like even more.

Plus, a 'genuine Ronex' is begging to be called out.

      • +1

Why get the real one for full price when the knockoff looks just as good? :P

And it's actually pretty sturdy too and I don't feel guilty if I bang it up a bit

        • it’s a knock off if it has rolex written on it, there are plenty of homage watches that don’t, $70 invicta waterproof to 200m and it’s auto if i had to pick fav budget watch.

  • +4

    Any Citizen Eco-Drive.
    I am currently wearing a BJ7075-02E, but alternate this with a CC9025-51E.
The other watches I wear (in decreasing order of "wearing frequency") are the BU4000-50E, the AT2100-09E and the Sturhling Symphony DT 411.

    • +1

and the Sturhling Symphony DT 411

      😍😍

    • How is the BJ7075-02E as a daily driver comfort and quality-wise? I really dig the black + red colour scheme and am needing a GMT for travel.

      • It's very good. Looks awesome, has a polyurethane strap (Close enough to a leather look) and is sturdy. The black and red colour scheme is very nice too. This watch is definitely a daily driver.

I use Scab, he's always on time, same time everyday.

  • Vostok Komandirskie 219511 from Meranom with a gold colour. My preorder just shipped from Russia for $58.19 AUD and I'm planning to strip the gold plating off of it and have the natural brass colour back just like brass instruments are. I'm looking for a replacement strap, not sure which. I gave away my Vostok Amphibia 420289 and want another Vostok. I picked the airplane dial because it reminds me of my old Honda Superblackbird I sold earlier this year.

    • Interesting. When you get hold of it share your pics of this watch and reviews pls.

  • +10

My daily watch, I like to keep it simple.

    https://bit.ly/2HweTYI

    • +1

Is it just me or does the Google logo pop out when looking at your simplicity xev

    • Nah that one is too simple looking, U need sth more flashy mate ;)

  • +4

I use Asundial for everyday wear - I stand outside and based on where my shadow lands I can tell the time +/- a few hours. I must admit, it is a bit more error prone at night.

  • This bloke has picked out some watches from gearbest which seem to be decent value, cheap enough to try at least

  • +1

I like the idea of this smart watch. Still has the swiss mechanical component but also modern smartwatch capabilities in a subtle styling.

  • +1

I rock a Timex Expedition. I think it was about $50 from Amazon. It has a very sleek classic look.

  • +2

Daily wear:Garmin Fenix 3 Tracks all my training and bio data and integrates with electronic scales, My Fitness Pal food data etc…)
Knockabout watch: Citizen Eco (bought from OzBargain link)
Posh watch: Omega Seamaster (saved 30% at the Dubai Mall)

  • Daily driver: Seiko Velatura Yachting timer

    http://www.watchalyzer.com/seiko-watches/velatura/seiko-vela…

  • I have a watch from the 5th, they seem to have many in different styles and quality seems good. Can anyone comment on these watches? Does anyone have any insight into them?

    • I hadn't heard of this brand till now. Whats your review on the watch you have?

      • I've got the MM2 Black & White. I really like it and quality is great. But I've never owned an expensive watch so not sure how it compares.

I'm also interested in the NYMesh watches too

  • In today's day and age where a phone does this job wearing a wristwatch is somewhat redundant, unless you really are into them. There are good mechanicals to choose from right from a few hundred to several thousand. If you wear one regularly, get a good mechanical one. If it is only to wear occasionally the Casio and other quartz watches will do just fine.
If you are into mechanical Seiko's are a good place to start (150-1000) or Oris, Longines (1-5k).

    • +1

the hassle is pulling phone out of the pocket , especially when sitting down, or walking with both hands full to check the time vs watch on wrist …..

i know some people hold phone in their hands all the time hoping for a life changing message or call, or walk and always look down the screen, even bumping into people, i leave my phone in my pocket, answer if it rings, check messages when i stop and sit down.

  • Gear S2 Classic.

  • +1

I got plenty of watches in $70-150 range. Still favour seiko 5 or solar range, I prefer their face material seems to get less scratch. Recently bought a Victorinox from USA and works pretty well. I can replace my own battery and it's cheap to do so so I don't care whether mechanical or not. Sure the movement on mechanical is fun but I just need to tell the time and able to service my own, mechanical can be finicky and I hate rotating my watch and get to the mechanical one it's dead. So I keep one seiko 5 for the old time sake and couple of solar and battery one.

Orient Ray, or Orient Mako are excellent automatic watches that look great, are built great, but are mega cheap.

    • upvote for this!
and on the smartwatch side of things - the huawei watch 1.

  • I recently purchased this from Starbuy after owning a MVMT watch:

    https://www.citizenwatches.com.au/technology/eco-drive/ca425…

I actually spent quite a while looking at watches trying to decide whether I wanted sapphire or the looks of this watch and I ended up with this.

    • I'm not really a watch guy but thinking of getting a MVMT. Would you recommend?

      • +1

looks good, I've read that it's bad build quality

      • Ah apologies for the late reply, nah I would not. I would say that it looks appealing especially in Facebook ads (I keep getting them), but the only reason I bought my Citizen watch was because the wrist strap broke and the MVMT watch was really bad quality, both in time keeping and build. I really recommend r/watches guides here:

      • Don't get fashion watches. They are cheaply made and not worth the money. Spend a little more and invest in a Citizen Eco-drive or Seiko Mechanical. Their built quality are top compared to those fashion watches you see in shops. I bought 5 Eco-drives within 4 months period in 2016. Gift two to my parents sold one and still have two. Until now they run beautifully without any problem. I've recently added a Seiko Mini Turtle and 2 Q&Q SolarSmile to my little collection.

    Seiko Auto Sea Urchin

    Cheap in price.
Definitely looks like a rip off of a rolex, however, still has its own Seiko flair.

    • I've marked this one, to buy next. I've always wanted a rolex, and din't want to go for a knock off. This one gives me both :)

    • Looks amazing. I've had a Sea Master for nearly 20 years, it's great but I'm too scared to wear it day to day after it came off and I nearly lost it once

  • Garmin Vivofit 2. One year battery life (i've had it for 2+ years and still not had to replace the battery).

    No frills No fuss.

  • After going for years without a watch I bought a king Seiko from 1973, wasn't exactly cheap at $550 but I'm loving it!

  • +1

Citizen eco drive, specifically due to the battery reserve and self charging through sunlight. Time is always accurate, which means watch is always ready to wear and looks pretty dressy too.
