SONOFF® S20 10A 2200W Wifi Wireless Remote Control Socket Smart Timer Via App Phone with Alexa @LITB
Slightly cheaper than previous deal

Some notes I gathered from previous deals:
* These are smart power sockets which you can link direct to Google Home or Amazon Alexa without needing extra bridges/hubs/hardware like the Xiaomi range.
* These are rated up to 2000W (instead of Aus standard 2400W), so high power appliances like heaters/AC will not work with these.
* Native Google Home, Alexa and IFTTT integration and can be flashed to support MQTT
* These are technically Chinese sockets which are upside down compared to ours - keep in mind when deciding where to use it
* They have not been tested for Australian safety specs. That said, teardowns and user reports state decent build quality.

    • Indeed! Poor design, I think even Xiaomis is huge

    As stated by the OP

    • They have not been tested for Australian safety specs. That said, teardowns and user reports state decent build quality.

In b4 someone else posts about safety, electrocution, bushfires, no insurance, price jacking etc…

  • These are rated up to 2000W (instead of Aus standard 2400W)

Nominal only. It is the current that matters.
The relay inside is rated at 10A. This doesn't mean that 11 or 12A will make it explode, but I wouldn't try 15A sustained.

    • Probably a 10A resistive load - it is unlikely to last long switching something like a pool pump or lots of flouros

      • I'd have thought anything with a 10A plug is OK.
Pumps and fluoros have power factor correction.

I have these. They are a little fussy to set up, you need to create an account for every device you wish to control from.
They work fine, and with google home.
The indicator light is extremely bright, I taped some electrical tape over it, 3 layers!

Or you can flash third party firmware like Tasmota and get full MQTT support for integration with Home Assistant

      • I don't understand what you just said but it sounds good!
How do you flash this fancy firmware you talk about?

  • Anyone know the difference between this and this

    • S22 from banggood is older version and has temperature sensor input. Looks like S22 is no longer in production.

    • I would recommend the S22 over the S20. Aside from the temperature sensor input, it is narrower so it will fit fine on power boards, and compatible with Aus/NZ style recessed sockets such as on extension cords. For the S20 you really need to use a double adaptor to get it clear.

Functionally they are identical. I am running the Tasmota firmware on each which works great.

      • Does look more functional. I can't imagine there'd be much difference.

Do you mind sharing any guides you have for re-flashing? Thanks.

  • Anyone knows the standby power consumption in these wifi switches? I have 3 of these at home and cant help but wonder if they're actually going to save me $$. I doubt it is actually saving me any standby consumption from the single bedlamp attached to it but there should be some savings on the TV/tv box/soundbar plug?

  • Ordered two which arrived today, but they won't connect to my wifi. Sitting right next to my router and test router neither connect reliably, 90% of the time they aren't found by the App and generally disconnect after about 30 seconds if I do manage to get them on.

Faulty? Seems strange both S20s are behaving like this, but two different routers and no improvement is worrying.

    • Do you have a dual band router with connection steering set so the 5GHz and 2.5GHz both have the same SSID? I think there is a note in the manual to turn this off during set up, as they will only set up successfully with 2.5GHz.

      • You are correct, the S20s are 2.4GHz only, however my main router is dual band but I use a different SSID for the two channels and made sure I was using the correct one by removing the other from my phone. Test router is 2.4GHz only and no better, so I don't believe that's the issue.

        • I haven't set this up yet, but I had a similar issue setting up some IP cams on 2.4Ghz that was driving me crazy. The IP cams wouldn't connect even when I turned off the 5Ghz network. In the end I had to use my older router and set the 2.4ghz to Wireless G/N to make the connection, then set everything back up to how it was. I couldn't find a way to do that on my Ubiquiti AC Pro.

        • I thought that might be the problem, so tried an older router which was 2.4GHz only. Still having issues, and seen a few other posts around about them not working from LITB's recent sales too.

Might be a dodgy or fake batch they're dumping cheap. Or I just got really unlucky with two S20s.

        • @xS415x: It could also be the channel you have set up on the router. Instead of using auto you could try selecting the most common/compatible channels. I'm planning on setting this up today along with some additional IP cams. Will let you know which settings work for me.

        • @xS415x: I couldn't get this mofo to pair. I tried both pairing methods. Didn't have time to fluff around testing every channel.

@marquise: Some of the research I've done suggested Channel 7, which I tried. Made no difference and honestly, if I have to set my Router to a static channel rather than Auto for it to work, then there's still a problem with the device and isn't fit for purpose.

I appreciate the suggestion and hope you do manage to get yours to work, but I've also reached the point where I've realized I'm beating the dead horse trying to make my S20's work.

I'm chasing LITB to get a refund. Not going so well so far though…

  • Mine arrived a week or so ago. Bought 3 using 1 now for a bed side table lamp. Works perfectly no complaints so far. Trying to think of more uses besides lamp switches.

Definitely not gonna maybe try a heater with this though who knows that would be very handy if I could get that to work.
