  • what's the purpose of this software?

    • E-mail client for Windows and Mac. Mainly for those that need to deal with a high volume of e-mail from multiple accounts.

        yeah, i’m on outlook 2016 and run about 15 mail boxes, some i keep long term some once they get too much spam i dump. also to check kids mail boxes.

        outlook client is expensive, and much nicer then cloud based as it keeps local copy and does some nice sorting and searches.

        wish gmail had a local client but alas google is cloud company and doesn’t like to support software on a platform microsoft or apple controls.

        • I heard rumours G-mail may end up making an independent app for Windows/Mac after the next big G-mail re-haul.

          @Detective Pikachu:

          if they do that then i would seriously consider dumping outlook2016 …..even on windows 10 it sometimes crashes.

          having a desktop client from google would also legitimise them more in the corporate mail business…… at the moment no internet means no mail but with outlook you can work offline eg on planes, remote areas etc.

          I have a couple of dozen mailboxes set up in Thunderbird and it works just fine for free. It's a pity it's semi-abandoned.

          @syousef:

          Co-incidentally, this is a fork of Thunderbird.

          @Detective Pikachu:

          Had a closer look. They go to great lengths to avoid any mention of Thunderbird (Only 4 hits if you search) but can't help mentioning Mozilla. Especially in legal where they have to comply with publishing modified sources.

        • @syousef:

          They've gone through 6 iterations, I did recall they use to be quite upfront about it, I guess that's changed now.

          @syousef:

          I was about to say, wouldn't anyone just download TB?

        • +1

          @syousef: not really, they have got themselves organised, and hired a few full time developers.

  • Costs US$40 (full version, not the upgrade)

  • Try Mailbird for Windows, its more advanced with new features
