This is a great deal for 42 inch with 100Hz motion plus….most low priced LCD's only have a 50Hz…The free shipping is a saving of around $100 by itself…I think the free shipping ends on the 7th Jan though so be quick…I have brought from this site a few times and the items are here within 2 to 3 days…

  • They say 1 year manufacturer warranty yet no clue who is the manufacturer. CrazySales home brand maybe? lol

Appears to be Sansui/Daijitsu. Here's a discussion on it from WP when it was offered by COTD: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1394521

It would be good to know if the manufacturers warranty is in-home or RTB…avoid like the plague if it's the latter IMHO! Otherwise, it's a decent price if you must have a 100Hz set, esp delivered IMHO! ;)

  • good price for FHD

Considering name brands can be had for $100-$150 more from a retail shop are the headaches really worth it?

    • +1

Dunno, cheapest 42" 100Hz set I see on shopbot is ~$900…not disbelieving you or anything but do you have a reference for any big brands in that price range?

If you can find a 42 inch with these specks for under $700 in a retail store….please post it

Watch out if this is a no name brand TV. Here are the possible problems:
    1. Remote interference. If you intend to use any no name brand DVD player with the TV, then you will find that pressing the pause button or some other button (on the DVD player's remote) could trigger a function on the TV (volume up, change channel). Karaoke machine remote could also interfere.
    2. These TVs are not able to handle 60Hz input source very well (e.g. Blu-ray player when set to HDMI Auto). They really only handle 50Hz.
    3. Lack of 1:1 mode means connecting a PC to the TV will not look sharp (and could have overscan). The issue mentioned in #2 (poor handling of 60Hz) will also mean any video playback using the PC HDMI (or VGA) will not play smoothly.

      Nahhhhh!

The MAIN problem with these cheap TVs is the lack of warranty. My old Sansui LCD lasted 15 months and blew the power supply… over $500 repair (out of warranty). The techs said that the power supply would probably only last about the same amount of time!

So pissed off… I just left it there at the Sansui repair place, and bought a new AWA with 3 year warranty for $499

The MAIN problem with these cheap TVs is the lack of warranty.

Indeed…the Samsung warranty blows this one out of the water (cough cough)

      • Blown power supply? Grab a soldering iron and fix it.

I had a viewsonic screen with a power supply that died. Viewsonic quoted over the phone $150 to fix it (~$250 screen at the time), cost me $10 for parts at Jaycar and a little over an hour to do it myself.

        • +1 did the same with my pc screens, fixed about 20 of the buggers at work as well doing the same thing, typically its a 30cent capacitor.

    • 1. Remote interference.

I've not seen this phenomenon with any device in ten years, easily!

      2. These TVs are not able to handle 60Hz input source very well

I've seen some brand name sets that don't do so well with HDMI auto either! You do realise you can set it manually if you want! ;)

      3. Lack of 1:1 mode means connecting a PC to the TV will not look sharp

Also see #2, I've seen some brand name sets that don't scale so well with HDMI PC input either, just use VGA, it's unaffected; and also obviates DRM over HDMI too! ;)

  • picked up a Sharp 40" 100Hz LED LCD LC40LE700 from Bing Lee last Saturday (31-12-2010) for $799 plus free a Topfield PVR RRP$499 (have to pay $25 shipping). It was a one day sale not sure if they still got the TV only for that price (free PVR expired on 31-12). The panel is from Japan, TV assembled in Malaysia. Even @ $799 it think it was a bargain, JB had it listed for $1696 in the shop.

PS just checked Bing Lee selling online for $896.

    • Yes…

But you paid $799… and this deal is $569 which is like $230 cheaper (or over $250 once shipping is considered).

      • +1

but this one is not LED and with 250 more, you have a fantastic PVR and LED panel with good quality tv and the most important thing is the warranty will be local.

I'm as tight as a fish's backside, but even I'd pony up the extra $255 for bb's deal! In fairness, that's a one-off special though, replicating it may cause some issues! ;)

      • +1

        well known brand vs unknown
3 years vs 1 year warranty

        • See andy's Samsung comment above…you may not have recognised the subtle humour there! ;)

    • Good job on getting the Toppy included at that price…now that's a nice value-add! :)

  • +1

everyone, please dont buy this rubbish if you like value….

    • where did you buy yours from?

  • +1

No brand TV. Not worth the high risk. Even a crap TV should have a brand name.

    • yes, i think if you need to buy a lcd tv, you better buy a brand products, its quality is guaranteed, and i think it is more safe. do you think?

  • +1

Put it this way,If you get 3 years out of this tv or even 2 who cares what warranty is like the price is good…and in 3 years who knows what techno will be out there,It will be time for an up grade anyway…

    • The people that can't afford to spend a bit more to get a better brand TV can't really afford to upgrade their TV every 3 years.

      • Well, put it this way, some people don't really watch TV much. They just wanna buy a cheap one and leave it there to watch occasionally. I think it's quite cheap considering it's a 100hz Full HD. But it would be a much better value if additional warranty can be purchased for the peace of mind.
