[VIC] Get $50 Cheque When You Use The Victorian Energy Compare Website to Compare Provider Offers (1 Per Household)

6720

The Victorian Government has announced today that from July 1 to December 31 this year June 30 2019, if you use the Victorian Energy Compare website to see if there are better energy deals available for you, the Government will give you $50, even if you don’t end up switching to a new provider. It’s essentially a $50 payment to every household in Victoria (with a limit of 1 payment per household) by filling out a form which takes a few minutes. (Which is why I have not marked it as a freebie).

    • On a computer.

    • You can provide the details if you don't have a pdf bill.

It needs to be electricity though, not gas. For some reason.

    Cheque… Are we living I the 70s?

    • +2

I think they are doing it by cheque to ensure that only persons who live at the address get the $50.

      • PO Box.

        • From memory, you don’t get to choose the address. It has to go to the address that is on the bill. Only way around it would be to get AusPost to redirect all your mail.

  • Has anyone received their cheque?

My claim is still being checked :(

We have identified that your submission requires further review before we can confirm your eligibility for the bonus payment.

If you do not receive another email from us in two weeks, or if you have any enquiries, you can contact [email protected] and quote your customer reference number.

    • I received the email just like Skramit did and that was on 16 July. They gave a timeframe of 2-4 weeks so we're now past the earlier time of the timeframe.
I go to the mailbox everyday hoping to find a letter there with a cheque inside but all I get are random real estate brochures…

    • You beat me easily.

I got my cheque today as well :)

(I applied on the 2nd of July and received an email on the 17th of July advising that my submission had been finalised and payment scheduled)

    • +1

Same! Received my cheque today :)
(applied on the 2nd July and received confirmation email on the 17th July)

  • Applied about 10am on the day. Received my cheque yesterday

  • received my cheque this Tuesday, now a stupid questions, do I need to have an account in Westpac (cheque issued by Westpac) to cash it out? or I can go to any bank and ask to cash it out / transfer on my card?

    Thank you.

    • Hi Ametric,
You don't need a Westpac account - just go into any branch of the bank you have an account with, and they'll be able to process the cheque for you.

(You can also deposit the cheque at some ATMs, and some banks also have quick deposit boxes inside the branch, if you don't want to line up.)

*Edited to add that it will probably take about 3 days for the cheque to clear once it's been processed (ie. for you to be able to access the money in your account).

      • I got mine put in my chequing account and it was in my account before I left the branch. YMMV.

      • +1

Thank you for your reply, my main branch is way far away from me (attached to the mortgage), and the rest of the banks I'm using online only (with some branches in CBD), so was wondering if I can just pop in any Westpac branch and ask them to cash it out / deposit on my card for me.

Dumbarses send you a CHEQUE. Is this the US?

  • Got my cheque today, yeah lunch for 3 days on the gubmint.

  • cashed my cheque in, just noticed a few days later it was dishonored? What gives? government cheques are bouncing now?

    • Still bounced?

      • Yup, it’s gonna be a pain in the butt to get my $50 now :( seems like I’ve been unlucky, no one else I know have had their checks bounce

  • Thanks op

  • Anyone reckon I can claim this twice? I already claimed it but am moving home next week (it says one per HOUSEHOLD not PERSON)

    • Sign up in a different name…

However, if the house you are buying already made the claim with the previous owner, that would count as a second claim on the one household I would assume.

If you own multiple properties, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to make multiple claims, provided all of them have the bills in your name, which is unlikely.

    • How did you go with this? I'm also moving home…

  • Got the email confirmation on the 17/9 and cheque arrived in the mail today, so 2 weeks.. Now to find an actual/physical bank that will accept this piece of paper 😂

  • I summitted the claim on 10/10/18 & got this email today, anyone received the email below?
