    • i bought 4 in the same order after i changed my password. used cashrewards to get 2% back

      • +1

LOL, you don't have to change your password. You can buy as many as you like, you just have to purchase them 2 at a time :) .

  • +2

Give Repco a call. I get ~15% off by memory when I price match

    • +3

Just called the national number of repco 133227, guy on the phone just told me nah, we don't price match as a company. that's it.
      maybe local stores are better.

      • Yep stores I meant

    • Is this confirmed?

      • -2

        Confirmed.

    • +2

I called repco Osborne Park they said they won't price match special price

      • -1

        Go to Malaga.

        • OK I will try today

        • I called Malaga.. they say no.

        • @somebloke: well, what I do is call and ask them if they can price match. If they say yes, I go in and they when they scan they bring it down to ~15 off. I don't ask specifically for it

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: makes sense, however he flatly told me no price matching in general.

        • @RichardF89: How'd ya go?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: At first I though it was Balcata. then I found you mentioned Malaga. Malaga is to far for me. Thanks anyway

      • Then what is the price match policy used for? lol

  • Cheers OP, next service sorted!

  • Is this good for Toyota Camry 2011?

  • Guys do oils such as this have a shelf life if unopened? Also how about if its opened?

    • Unopened many years (shake bottle before use).

      Opened probably a year

      • What do I do then when my car needs just over 5L and the mechanic keeps using the new bottle first. Is it ok to keep putting 0.3L from the older bottle?

        • Yes considering its good in your car under driving conditions for over 12 mths its actually tough stuff if stored in garage and not in boot of car.

        • +2

That means your mechanic doesn't care about your car or oil.

        • @wtfnodeal: bmw interval is 25000kms or 24 mths with the specified oil…..fully synththetic is key.

        • @garage sale: you didn't get what he was saying? The mechanic kept on using the newly opened oil and left the old opened one from years ago to top up whatever was needed after the 5L new bottle oil was used up. Say it needs 5.1L the mechanic pours 5L from newly opened bottle into the engine and top up the 0.1L from the old bottle. Any mechanic cares more to think would pour the leftover oil from last service into the engine first before opening a new bottle.

        • I would not go back to that mechanic. Such a silly thing to not use up the older bottle.

        • @wtfnodeal: Then the ratio between new/old oil in the machine will be lower than the mechanic method or I am missing something?

        • It'll likely be fine.

My car takes 6.5 L and it is easier to add using 5 L + 1.5 L so I have added oil that was opened for almost 2 years.

        • +1

@rictee: The mechanic is going through a lot of oil - why would an open oil sit on a shelf for years id he needs to find 0.1l or 0.3l everytime he does an oil change? The opened oil would be quickly used up.

          Makes no sense.

        • @singlemalt72: it depends what oil mechanics use …the 5w30 in this deal is fully synththetic and rrp $70 so with filter and labour a$110 fill. They tend to use cheaper mineral based oils so they can do $60 fill.

        • @trienchieu12: what constipated said his mechanic keeps on using the newly opened oil but only top up with the old opened oil if 5L isn't enough or in excess just ask constipated to bring the unused oil home. So in theory the old opened oil could be sitting on the shelf after several services and if in case of excess oil constipated will have a lot of opened bottle oil with small leftover oil in them. Not that it will make a huge difference given oil really has no expiry date but in theory again it will mean constipated will have a lot of opened oil bottles unless he consolidates it himself and the oil will be there for years.

      • +9

        refrigerate after opening

    • No it doesn't have a shelf life opened or unopened. Ignore anyone who says otherwise.

      • Depends on how is it kept you might need to consider about the water condensation from the air once it is opened. But yeah under normal storing condition there is no expiry date regardless opened or not.

    • I still have 5-6 bottles stocked piled from many years ago.
I hope it is still good.

  • This is a good deal, they usually cost double this.

  • Thks grabbed 2

  • Amazing deal, they usually cost double this.

    • Best repco ive seem was $39.95 on special

      • +1

        Was $29.95 before.

    • +1

This is always on sale once in a while…

      • +1

        Is this a riddle?

  • +2

It's good for older VW vehicles that need VW 502/505 approved oil.

  • I am new in selecting oil for my car. Can someone please advise, if this oil is suitable for Suzuki Liana 1.6 Litre Eng. (2001-2004)?

    • +2

Go to the Supercheap auto website parts picker (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/vehicle-search/parts-guide), and you can choose your vehicle. Then it will show you options that are relevant for your car. You can filter by sections on the left. Choose the oil section and look for the numbers (e.g. 10W-40 or 5W-30). From my quick look it looks like it is there as an option for your car.

      • I wouldn't say the oil guide is the best. They and the Penrite website recommend 0w20 Enviro Oil for my car (Toyota 86) when the best oils for ours are Penrite 10 10ths racing.

5w30 should be fine for your car Ramie, but as it's getting a bit old you might consider a 5w40/10w40 oil. Penrite HPR5 5w40 often goes on sale for amazing prices and is great for your engine.

        • Interesting. I use Penrite Enviro 0w-20 for my MX-5 as per their recommendation. Unless you go track and push the car very hard, is the racing oil justifiably better?

        • @rictee:
I suppose it's not super necessary, and it is all based around how you drive the car daily. I use 5w30/5w40, but mind you my 86 is boosted so it does need a thicker oil.

If I had an Mx5 I wouldn't be using 0w20 personally but yeah.

I think it's similar to how dealerships say to service your car every 12500 unless it's driven heavily, and their definition of heavy is if you do a lot of stop start driving and if you drive it more than a few times a week.

  • Good price. i use this as recommended in my small car. Its also listed for use in my 4wd but i use magnatec diesel 15w-40.
Would magnatec diesel be better for the car as its designed for diesels rather then this full synthetic?
Also since im in the tropices the different winter level shouldnt matter much yeah?

  • Is this good for mk6 vw gti?

    • Go to the Supercheap auto website parts picker (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/vehicle-search/parts-guide), and you can choose your vehicle. Then it will show you options that are relevant for your car. You can filter by sections on the left. Choose the oil section and look for the numbers (e.g. 10W-40 or 5W-30). From my quick look it looks like it is there as an option for your car.

    • Yes this is what I used to use on my MK6 GTI. However now that I have a MK7.5 R I need to use VW 504/507 approved oil, so I switched to Penrite Enviro+ 5W-30.

    • No.

      Mk6's need VW 504/507 oil.

Below $50 is my buy-price for oil rated to this spec and i see enough specials to keep 3 of them serviced.

      • I asked my mechanic and checked on the SCA website and this oil is fine for the car.

        • this is the correct oil for ANY Mk6 Golf

          http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Castrol-Edge-Diesel…

And here's Castrol themselves confirming it (look at the oil in the pic)

          https://www.castrol.com/en_au/australia/car-engine-oil/engin…

        • you link the one for diesel. MK6 Gti is petrol

        • @astroman: Well aware that a Mk6 GTI is a petrol. I don't want to be one of those people, but i've owned most Mk6 variants sold in AU. Quick count and i'm at 13 VW's since 2008. VW 504 00/507 00 is the petrol and diesel variant standards. I can't remember which is which though off the top of my head but most oils that conform to one also conform to the other.

I use Valvoline SynPower XL-III personally, but Supercheap stopped stocking it so i've moved to the Castrol that i linked. Which shouldn't be confused with the castrol that they use in the dealer service departments (which you can buy in morbid grey VW 5l bottles for about $130 if you so desire). I'm not enough of an oil nerd to tell you the difference.

Its entirely likely that the above mentioned oil is fine as long as you observe shorter oil change intervals such as 6m/7500 , but not all 5w30's are the same.

  • +8

Geez people. Just because it's on sale, doesn't mean it's suitable for all applications. Hop on the manufacturers website and suss out your required oil type… They have an iPad instore in SCA's where you select your make/model and it tells you what you need. No need to keep cluttering the thread with the same questions.

    • +3

Aah, I was just going to ask if it would work in my M4 Sherman tank :(

      • +2

Use in my thai body massage outlets ?

        • Most models are outdated and don't support fully synthetic

      • Really, now I know why Sherman tank lose the battle with Tiger tank. My Tiger love this engine oil :)

    • Or, you know, use the manual that came with your vehicle or at the very least, use Google.

  • +2

Does this work in my car?? Pls help!!

    • +1

      Nope, urs need Tabasco

      • I have the same car. Green or normal red tabasco?

        • Tabasco is recommended, if you are an aggressive driver, this one is the best for you.

  • Does anyone know a good mechanic in Oxley, QLD or surrounding area? I went to some and they were all dodgy, just used cheap, mixed oil and parts to service my car.

    • Supply your own oil and pay for labour. Common with owners who use pricey oil eg 0w30 symthetics which garages dont keep.

      • Really, I have never done that before. I thought I have to use their oil and parts if I want to use their service.

        • Highly recommend Trax tyre and auto located at Wacol! Paul the owner is honest ! Always gone to him

        • +1

          @Gomo:

ah, I know this but I've never been there, can I bring my own oil like garage sale advised? Thanks.

        • @T-man: I always bring my own never a problem! If the car doesnt need all 5ltrs he will leave the bottle with you

His easy to book in with just phone up and book

  • +2

How old is the car? Why not change your own oil & filter? It's not rocket science. There's two Hyundai Getz in our family & this job takes me 20 minutes per car.Fortunately they also take the same oil filter. As for oil,I buy what's on sale and this time it was Shell's Helix HX7 10W 40 from SCA.

    • This…

Saves heaps…the cheapest guy I found before I did my own oil changes was $50 for service alone, supply own parts which was about $30 for oil and $17 Toyota Filter.

    • +1

need ramps or stands to get under car to undo sump if diy and place to store jacks or ramps till next oil change …….take to mechanic they hoist, dispose of old oil and fill with what you supplied…. lots of people don’t have garages ( apartment living) or want to dump oil down the stormwater, or take to council depot for disposal.

please don’t work under car using the jack supplied for changing tyres …….unless you voted for kelly o’dwyer or scott morrison ……

      • Or even use those El Cheapo Stands from SCA…sht some of them look really bad and weak.

To be honest this is my work around solution without having to put the car on a hydraulic jack and car stands….I got a $36 electric suction oil pump. Start the engine for about 15 mins let it cool for about 5 mins, oil cap off, let the electric oil pump do the work then go underneath the car and unbolt the sump and drain any residual.

The only realy obstacle I have is the oil filter which unfortunately in a Camry is only accessible beneath the engine unlike VW/some German makes which you can access from top. To do this I'm thin enough to fit thorough the car without any stands, but a very tight fit, I also turn the steering wheel to the maximum Right and can access it…..If I'm lazy, I'll skip this and only do it every 2nd oil change.

  • +1

For those wondering whether it suits their car, this oil only conforms to API SL, which is technically for cars older than 2004. Thought about buying this for my 2010 outback but noticed in my service manual that its recommended to use API SM (>API SL), so I won't be buying this one. Although the only difference is the additives allowed, no point risking it. Pretty much every other oil on the shelf these days is accredited to API SN, so I'll just wait for one of those to be cheaper. If you want to know the difference in additives you can check here https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=sho…

  • "product is no longer available"

    Edit,
Super cheap appear to have fixed this issue.

  • +6

Honestly, if you're inclined as I am to support Australian in a small way, and get oil into your car that is consistently incredibly well reviewed, i'd suggest checking out the Nulon 5w-30 long life, fully synthetic stuff that comes up on special (same price as this, frequently). Just my 2c, not to trash your post OP, just in case anyone is looking around at oils

    • I don't think the Nulon stuff is fully syn. I think its a not a proper Group 4 but Hydrocracked. The Nulon Euro maybe is.

      • Fully synthetic can be hyddocracked.

Edge 5W30 isn't group 4 either, almost certainly hydrocracked

Very few group 4 synthetics, usually viscosities like 0w20, 0w40

    • +1

Yep got 6L on special from SCA last week for the same price 30 bucks. Even if not true fully synthetic still a bargain.

  • This or Nulon Full synthetic 5w-30 for $28 at Costco???

    • +1

      This.

    • The Nulon at Costco is API-SN.
      This one is API-SL.

Depends what your engine needs, but SN is the latest spec.

      • But this has

        BMW LL01
        MB 229.5
        VW 505

I would pick this one unless you're burning lots of oil

  • Better than Shell Helix HX7?
I'm trying to find oil for my 2002 Mazda 6 Stationwagon, Petrol.

    • Same as HX7 but $6 cheaper. Much of a muchness tbh. As many have stated before, change your oil frequently with a semi sync is better than fewer oil changes with a higher grade (full syn) oil.

I drive a Toyota Camry 2011 (got 2nd hand), always used Castrol Edge but switched to HX7 as I found it cheaper to share with my old man's Hiace Diesel with a DPF which only the HX7 can accommodate.

Now considering getting onto the Nulon Euro one people are raving about. $47 for 10L.

      • Shell HX-7 is currently $20 at Repco…

        • 10W-40 isnt it?

          5w-30 is more exxy.

        • @willister: again, I’m new to buying oil. In Vic eastern suburbs. I thought 10w-40 is good? I thought 5w-30 is for colder climates?

        • @willister:

Sorry you're right…my car is older can take both…
