FREE: 16,000 High-Quality Sound Effects for Personal, Educational or Research Purposes @ BBC

2150

Similar to my previous post, here's more free sound effects for you to enjoy :)

The BBC has opened up its vast sound archive to the public. Thanks to the new BBC Sound Effects website, you can freely download over 16,000 sound effects in WAV format for “personal, educational or research purposes”.

The database is tagged and searchable, so you can easily find everything from animal sounds and talking dolls to the sound of furnace glass burners and rattling window frames. It appears to cover most of the BBC’s lifespan, with effects from the 1920s onwards.

Life or death difference right here

Well due to anatomical complications I can only make squeaky sounds so they will be my go to WAV files

          @TightBottom:

Yep, you've never done a silent but deadly in your life, thanks to said anatomy.

        • @TightBottom: Username checks out.

    • That's a forum post.

    • As this is a sound library that was not previously freely available, it belongs in the deals section. The above forum topic, even though was posted first, has been duped to this deal. (We can't move forum topics to deals section).

      • Maybe TA can credit the forum post OP as a courtesy

        • TA may not have even been aware of existence of the forum topic. I will add a note in the description.

Hi TB. I credited my source in the OP. I had no idea there was a forum post about this, and always give credit where it's due. Thanks.

Thanks TightBottom for the support. Thanks moocher for the mod note. Thanks tightarse for giving this deal more awareness. :D

I usually get confused whether to post in forums or the deals page nowadays for such deals.

Great.. I have a huge collection of vinyl LP sound fx albums in storage that I rescued when my radio station moved to FM & DAB+ from the AM band years ago…. never got around to digitalising them myself, however they may get donated to a museum one day. The LP sleeves are worth their weight in monkey do alone ;)

    • I've just sent you a message, please have a look !

  • Free? Sounds great!

  • Can these be used on monetisable youtube videos?

    • +5

Says personal, educational or research purposes so probably not. Try the gamedev Reddit post instead (scroll up)

    • Careful… In addition to checking the BBCs T&Cs, be aware that YouTube scans music for DRM/IP content… Safer to use Youtube's own royalty free content which has been cleared and is available to use in your video clips. I believe it is free, however you would need to check with YouTube for their T&Cs anyway.

(There are a few YouTube channels I subscribe to and they place a crawl across tthe bottom of their videos stating that the music being used is from the YouTube music library).

  • Does anyone knows how to use these as an iPhone ringtone ?

    • Send an email to Cellebrite with request

Is the willheim scream on there?

  • Yeah! Hell, damn, fart

  • anyone know of good free music please? Apart from Ben Sound.

  • Thanks, saving for later :)

  • It's good to have access to a properly categoried set of free SFX. I used to get my sound effects from computer game installations and use them on my custom created Windows themes.

All we need now is high quality royalty free music; the truly free stuff is ancient, aweful sounding LPs from before the 50s.
