  • Nice thanks! Rebooking my bookings

  • I am little confused on how the discount works. I had a booking for $107 per night in Hiroshima and when I look up the price now, it says $112 (Promo eligible). Is the discount included in the 112? or an other 12% off from $112?

    • Another 12%. Usually you apply the code at checkout to see the reduced price but in this case maybe when you enter your amex detail at checkout

      • I have cancelled my prev booking to test this and paid for the new booking… still charges me $112 after checkout! I am guessing they're included in the final price, which in my case was a little bit more expensive sadly.

        • I've tried it. When I enter my Amex card (it was my saved cards), it applies the discount

          Price (1 room x 4 nights)
          AUD 1,075.96
          AMEX 12 12% -AUD 106.71
          Booking fees FREE
          Price AUD 969.25

Yours are probably not meeting the T&C?

        • @John: Odd one! I have my amex saved.

I have given it multiple random tries for the same date for the same hotel in May, the Amex discount pops up when the room price is higher, to bring the price similar to what I have. If the price comes up lower, the discount doesnt show up! I dont see any minimum price per night in the T&C's.

        • @aspirepranesh: Same with me, on the cheaper rates it won't discount.

        • +1

@dtpearson: Thanks for confirming that! I thought I was seeing things. Funny thing is, after everything was said and done, I managed to get a cheaper price without the AMEX discount!

    • you have to book through the link with amexsale

It is very handy if you don't any preference where to stay in your booking.
Note that not all hotel chain groups are included in certain location for this offer.
E.g. currently there is no Starwood hotel chain being offered in Sydney/Melbourne.

Thanks. Saving me $20 for 2 nights. Just enter your amex details at checkout and discount will apply automatically.

  • amex charges a >2% forex fee?
cheaper to use a standard 10% coupon code (floating around on ozb somewhere) and paying with fee free card like 28degrees?

    • +1

CBA amex has no FX fees

      • CBA still has an amex?

        • +1

Yes, triple points at Supermarket and department stores and has no FX fees. Is a good earner for foreign transactions.

      • didn't know that! thanks will look into this
in your opinion, how does cba diamond awards compare in value to amex's mr programme?

        • can only compare the Amex transactions eligible for 3 point per dollar ie supermarket etc which equates to 1.5 velocity points

    dont forget cashrewards

    • +1

doesn't work with these type of offers?

  • +2

No matter which coupon code comes up (Agoda, Expedia etc.) , nothing has ever been cheaper for me than cheaptickets + the 16% off code while using a no international tx fee credit card.

    • +1

For my 5 night stay in HK, Agoda with Bonus Gift Cards after you complete stay , velocity Points and 6-7% cashback shopback came like 20% cheaper than cheaptickets and 16% off code.

      • That's a good outcome. I'm doing some hotel bookings for Europe and I haven't had such luck, although cheaptickets rates are very good.

      • How did you manage to stack them? Do you:

        1) Login to cashrewards, go to agoda from there.
        2) type https://www.agoda.com/amexsale in the address bar

I thought the 2nd step would wash away the effect if 1)

    • in us$ or aus$?

      • even after converting to $AUD

    • +1

it depends on whether the hotel you want to book is a part of the deal. just tried two hotels for tokyo that i want to stay at, but neither are included.

  • Is it really cheaper (overall) to use these Expedia-owned sites, vs booking direct?

I see many hotels claim they have a guaranteed better rate + have more perks ?

  • Worked for me as well, but you need to find a deal that says "promo eligible" to get the 12.12% AMEX discount (automatically applied after you enter your AMEX card details). Funny thing is, I also landed on Agoda website from Trivago there was no "promo eligible" for the same room (slightly lower price), but when I applied by AMEX card at checkout, the discount didn't occur. So thanks OP, saved me $32!

  • So it looks like you have to enter your Amex card number to see the discount.
Can you still cancel at that point, or are you committed?

  • It only applies to Agoda via desktop PC and not Agoda APP. However, on desktop PC the prices are slightly more expensive than Agoda APP. If you use AMEX and it has Promo Eligible, it should work slightly cheaper than Agoda APP.

  • +1

Thanks OP - saved me $800 from my previous booking with booking.com!

  • +1

Thanks, definitely need to search via the linked promo page.

    • Can you link to the App somehow - rates are slightly cheaper?

      • Ahhh I can't edit this deal…

  • +1

Usually book using cheaptickets or orbitz promo codes. My stay in Sydney for 3 nights was cheaper on Agoda with this promo. Cheers OP!

  • Does anyone know if the deal works through ththe App which offers slightly lower prices?

  • Doesn't work for me. After typing AmEx card information, I got:

    24/7 Customer service
Sorry, but we are currently experiencing technical difficulties.

    • It worked for me a minute ago.

      • Got it working. the trick is to choose "I am booking on behalf of someone else" and in that "Someone else" write the name on the AmEx card.

  • If you have Agoda gift cards due to prior booking, then it doesn't stack with AmEx.

    I first saw price being "693.17 - 23 (gift card)". After I paid, the price becomes "693.17 - 83.17 (AmEx Discount)", not "693.17 - 23 (gift card) - 83.17 (AmEx Discount)"

  • Agoda earns enough in forex conversion when you use AMEX so this discount is not all that great as it sounds
