$10/Month for 1GB + Unlimited Calls Mobile Plan + Unlimited Data Bank/Sharing @ Belong Mobile

3900

This is a pretty appealing deal for low data users for a few reasons:

  • The data can be gifted to another sim
  • The data banks up infinitely if you don't use it even if you upgrade/downgrade the plan.
  • Cheapest reseller of the Telstra Wholesale network.
  • Capped at 64 kbps if you go over your limit. (Could be useful for IoT devices)
  • Can add international calls to 36 countries for just $5/month.

Note: No roaming allowed on this plan.

Lyca has similar plan for $10 per 28 days. Unlimited national, mobile calls and texts with 1GB of data.

    https://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/bundle/unlimited-10/

    • no ty voda

    • +1

      not Telstra network
      28 days not 30
no auto data charges on this plan

this plan is better in every way.

      • +1

Also no data gifting and plan shaping when you exceed your limit.

      • Well for some it may be helpful if they want free Lyca to Lyca calls with zero credit if most of your friends and relatives using Lyca. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah no plan shaping and data banking. This plan is sure better.

        Lyca is on Telstra network.

        • is lyca to lyca international?

        • @gingerale28:

Free Lyca to Lyca is for national calls not international.

        • +4

@alphaoasis: lol so how is lyca to lyca any good if belong has unlimied calls?

        • +1

          @gingerale28:

Lyca has unlimited national calls to other network too. Lyca to Lyca calls are free even if you don’t have credit. This is on prepaid sim. Belong is not prepaid. On Lyca you don’t recharge for the month and you still be able to call Lyca to Lyca free. Not saying Lyca is better.

        • +1

@gingerale28: Also so your friends can call you without costing them anything if they have Lycamobile

  • +1

This changed my mind. I wanted to port out to Kogan next week, with $10/month I can extend to another 2 months utilising the free $80 credit.
    1st month $30.
    2nd month $30.
    3rd month $10.
    4th month $10.

    Total $80.

    • What's the free $80 credit?

      • nbn™ plan

      • +3

I have an existing broadband plan and was given a free SIM + $80 credit.

        • That's awesome!

  • Is there a referral code for Mobile?

  • +1

I just cancelled my service with them through the online request. It was done within 10 mins.

  • For the referral, if I get $20 off my first payment but go for the $10 plan, that means the remaining $10 of referral credit goes to waste right?

    • No.

      • Please elaborate? If it says first payment then I assume it can't be stored or credited. Correct me if I'm wrong.

        • That credit is meant to be for broadband service. Not sure how it works for mobile service though.

        • @PissLUR:I"ve already got adsl2 from them. Will I get a credit for that? Thanks.

        • @love2buy:

Did you not get a letter with the free SIM last year?

  • What does 64kbps speed mean? Does that mean youtube/facebook/everything can still load but much slower?

    • +1

it's slightly above dialup speed. Facebook might be okay, browsing might be okay - both would be slow as balls; but youtube, no chance, any video streaming or something like that, forget about it. You are stuck with very basic browsing on 64 (and preferably with few images)

      • Facebook would be unusable..
        It would time out.
        Facebook Lite might work.

    • +3

too long didn't read response: Yes

In the case of youtube proba** BUFFERING ** b ** BUFFERING ** ly ** BUFFERING ** not.

64kbit is how many thousands of bits transfer per second. If you used dial-up modem before going to ADSL you would have experienced 56Kbit speeds (for those of us old enough to remember the good old days)..

I would say its not enough for video services, but for surfing sites, instant messaging etc its okay in a crunch - its enough to get the job done but you'll probably need a lot of patience for unoptimized / non-mobile friendly sites.

      • +4

Dial up was good enough for that time as websites were not heavy. Nowadays most websites are feature heavy for 64kbps. We had patience at old time & useto with slow speed, now days if it doesn't load in snap then we hit f5 repeatedly.

      • +1

You may also be able to download extremely 'lite' browsers from your app store, which don't download images at all & have other optimisations. Useful if you just need to check, for example, some shop's closing hours via google.

  • Will definitely look at these guys once my current Optus 24 month contract finishes in a few months. Looks like a very appealing plan for my phone usage.

  • +2

I wonder if find my iPhone would work at lower speed 64kpbs? In that case is pretty good to keep track of your kids without spending a fortune.

    • +1

Find my iPhone should work on 64kbps. The data use is minimal.

    • +4

a good way to punish them for using to much data aswell

      • 😂

    • +1

This is exactly what i'm thinking of it for, i'm looking for a plan for my gf's daughter atm as she is just at that age where shes allowed to walk home alone, only if we can track her in the process. I was also looking at $12.50 for Kogan 2gb but this seems like a better option without prepaying the year in advance

  • Can you get the free Telstra AFL live with this?

    • no

    • No, as this is a seperate company to Telstra 👌🏻

  • does anyone know if it's free calls to mobiles too in japan and taiwan?

    • +2

Mobiles and landlines are covered to all 36 included countries

      • Just to clarify, that's IF you pay the extra $5 per month, hey?

  • Can you port in?

    • +1

Yep, should take 15 minutes to do so.

  • +1

$5 saving with this over aldi vs possibility of shitty customer service. Hm

    • +2

aldi data rollover is only for previous month, if you’re a light data user belong is definitely better

  • Unfortunately Telstra has poor coverage in Melbourne. None here for 5km radius. Any similar offers from an Optus or Vodafone supplier?

  • it the data banking legit, anyone had experience?

    • +2

      Yes I have 245.5gb

      • How does that work?!?!

  • +2

Does anyone have belong mobile? I read they use msg2txt which I hate, is there a way to turn this off and use normal voicemail retrieval?

    • msg2txt would also be a deal-breaker for me. Does anyone know for sure that Belong doesn't have voicemail?

    • +7

I hate voice mail, I like seeing the gist of what someone is saying and who it is before I call them back

  • plan looks great, but their productreview rating is horrible…. I guess it's too good to be true huh?

    • +1

The issue I have with such sites and even whingepool is that people will usually write about problems and complain, while people who are happy might tell their friends and not really take the effort to write a positive experience review thereby resulting in a somewhat distorted view/skewed view (unless you surveyed every single customer to see what proportion of customers are unhappy).

I think even if the $10 was say $2 you would still have people complaining about the level of service and how they don't have a phone number to call. As with most things you get what you pay for so you have to have realistic expectations.

      • Try this number 1300 BELONG (1300 235 664).

  • +8

Belong user here, data banking is legit and its pretty awesome. @Jes
Yeah its msg2txt they dont offer voicemail along with no phone customer service biggest disadvantages of belong for me.

    • Is call forwarding to other number free?

    • Wait, did you say there's no voicemail? (Deal-breaker for me)

  • +1

Deal looks pretty good for lowish-data users like myself.

Data banking is really appealing. Would it be viable to start off with your first month at, say, $25 for 5GB and then switch to the $10/month plan and bank the cheaper data you've acquired?

    • +7

You could just pay someone on Ozbargain to gift some data. There are people in the classifieds section offering data.

      • I gave away 38GB just yesterday. Had I known about this $10/mo option (was posted after I gifted all my data), I might have stuck around.

    • +1

This is what I want to know too. 1GB will not usually be enough, but if I can switch to 5GB every so often to get more in the bank, that should be good.
Has anyone done this, or know if it works that way? Thanks.

  • +1

does this "Belong" plan have unlimited MMS ?

my experience with Lyca (Telstra wholesale) was, that there was NO MMS included in their plans.

    • +1

      Includes unlimited MMS

  • +6

also, for the unlimited calls/SMS to the 36 international countries, are the international numbers - landline or mobile numbers ?

    36 selected countries include:

    • Afghanistan
    • Austria
    • Bangladesh
    • Cambodia
    • Canada
    • Chile

So you can just sign up to the $40 plan for the first month, get 15GB and then downgrade to $10/month and use up that 15GB and then when you're low again bump up to $40 and then downgrade the month after that, rinse and repeat?

    • Would like to know this too

      • +1

Yes you can. But you wouldn't get double data the 2nd time (unless you sign up to a new sim, gift the data to your main account and close off the account)

        • +2

How do you get double data? Is there a specific deal for that?

        • +1

What is the double-data thingy? Can't see mention of it anywhere.

        • +1

@Trance N Dance: maybe it isn't going anymore but last time I checked when you activated a new sim you got double data for the first month

  • +1

Machej, Why does "Referrer will receive $20 credit. Referee will receive $20 off 1st payment, $0 activation and $1 modem.?"
This is for phone service not for modem…

    :-)

  • Does their website have chat ? in case you need help ?

  • +1

is this prepaid? can i buy a voucher to top up? don't really want to link my credit card.

  • -2

For those who go overseas often, you can't pause your plan.

Can I pause my mobile plan?
While we don't offer plan pauses for your mobile service, you can downgrade your data plan once per monthly payment cycle by clicking the button on this page.

    • +8

If you can afford to go overseas frequently, I’m sure you’ll be able to afford the $10 a month for your mobile connection.

      • Don't know why I got negged. Affordability has nothing to do with it. No one wants to pay for something they can't use. Just wanted to point out there are other plans out there that let you pause your plan which might suit some people better. Each to their own!

  • Good

  • -3

I'm on Telstra prepaid how do I change to this plan? Thanks

  • How does the data bank works if you have unused data? Say you have used 500mb that month, what happen to the remaining 500mb? Or does it only work for each full 1gb data only?

    • it would be any left over

  • +1

Does this deal have an expiry date?

  • Shame you can't stream spirit after data cap. You need at least 96kbit/s.

  • +1

Looking for a plan $5 plan for my watch.

  • Good deal

  • +2

Hmm, interesting- first price competitive deal on Telstra network I've seen. Start of a trend?

  • +6

This looks like a great plan for my mum, might consider ditching Vaya for this.

There seems to be some contradiction with their "unlimited" calls/SMS to international numbers for 36 countries with their CIS/marketing page and their support article:

How do I make calls or send texts to overseas numbers?

To make international calls or send texts to standard numbers in select countries, simply add the 'Make international and national calls and text' add-on. All our add-ons renew automatically at the end of your monthly payment period unless you cancel them before then.

    With this, you'll get:

    • Unlimited calls and SMS/MMS to standard numbers in: China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, United Kingdom and USA
    • Unlimited SMS/MMS to standard mobile numbers in: Austria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, France, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam
    • Unlimited calls, SMS and MMS to standard Australian mobile numbers
    • Unlimited calls to standard local and interstate numbers
    • Unlimited calls to 13, 1300, and 1800 numbers

All to use within Australia only. We don’t currently offer international roaming.

Can anyone confirm which is the right one? Not a big deal breaker but nice to know.

    • is a mobile number considered standard? I want to know if calling mobiles in USA is included

      • +2

USA mobile numbers are indistinguishable from landlines. Over there, they pay for incoming mobile calls.

i.e. there is no such thing as a "mobile number" in USA. They all have geographic area codes.

    • Standard number might mean landline and mobile number is you know mobile.

    • I would like to know as well, as I would like to make calls to countries listed as SMS only in the above. It does seem contradicting.

    • +1

The quote above must be outdated. In any case, the CIS trumps all. CIS is the official document.

International calls & text to 36 selected countries, include:
Afghanistan, Austria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China,
Colombia, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary,
India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New
Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, South
Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA,
      Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

    • That is part of their old plan, they havent updated the help topic page yet as these plans are new, phone calls are included.

    • +2

The support team replied me with this link:

      https://www.belong.com.au/support/mobile/getting-started/abo…

You’ll get unlimited calls & text (SMS/MMS) to standard & mobile numbers in 36 selected countries including, Afghanistan, Austria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA, Vietnam & Zimbabwe.

If you have selected the Large 15GB plan, unlimited international calls & text are included in your plan. However, if you are on Small 1GB or Regular 5GB plan you will need to select the $5 add-on to make unlimited international calls & text.

Hit the button below to manage your service so you can then add unlimited international calls & text to your Small 1GB or Regular 5GB plan.

When making an international call from your mobile, remember our 3 easy steps below:
Start with + (you’ll probably find this on the 0 button on your mobile phone)
Enter the country code for the country you are trying to reach
Next is area code then phone number (drop the first 0 if the area code starts with 0)

For use in Australia. Belong mobile doesn’t offer calls & text to satellite numbers, premium numbers, 1234, 12 455 and 12 456, international numbers outside the 36 selected countries or international roaming.

  • +1

    Is this prepaid or postpaid?

Can I get 5GB plan for first month and then switch to 1GB and bank my remaining data?

    • +1

Yes you can. I have done this.

    • +1

It is "postpaid", but you are billed in advance, like their ADSL service.
      And no bill-shock.

  • I am crushed that I lost 200gb of accumulated data because 1. I forgot to transfer it to a new account before the overdue payment locked usage 2. Divipay not being available for the last week. Now I'm wondering if it's worth paying $40 to get the account back and transfer the data to this $10 plan.
