Not quite 'retina' display: 1200 x 1920 pixels (~283 ppi pixel density)

    • +3

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retina_Display

Apart from the iPad mini, none of the full side iPad has 300ppi. They are still classified as retina display by Apple.

    • +1

Not sure that's really an issue - 8" diagonal at 1200 x 1920 means its sharp enough for at $176.33 tablet. Given Good Guys sell the non Plus Tab 4 for twice the amount with rubbish resolution, it seems pretty reasonable for the price

    • +1

Retina display is a marketing term which doesn't mean anything.

    No SD card slot?

    • +1

It's further down in the Specification section.

External Memory: TF card up to 64GB (not included)

      • Only 64gb? Any one know the reason for that limitation?

        • +1

The 64gb maximum is usually stated because the manufacturer hasn't validated higher capacity SD cards to work with the system. They're absolving themselves of liability for >64gb SD cards potentially not working.

Realistically, for a 64gb SD card to work, the device must be capable of reading and writing to "SDXC" cards, as the SDXC standard is required for any capacity above 32gb. The SDXC standard is what all 64gb-2tb SD cards use, so any >64gb SD card should also work in this tablet too.

    • You'll need it with only just 16GB onboard.

Good tablet though there are a few annoying issues -
    1) the notification light can not be permanently disabled
    2) there is an notification about too many start up apps that won't go away even after disabling nearly all apps from starting;
    3) WiFi is patchy and keeps dropping out even after factory reset - seems to be a known issue and no fixes;
    4) scrolling is buggy. Once you take your finger off, the scrolling stops. Again a known issue but no fixes.

    • Can't say my wife has complained about 3/4 above, but we have a Wifi Extender and that's only 5mtr away from where she usually uses it.

I suspect there is an app that will address 1 and I know it has that too many startup notification but wife just ignores it - unless she complains and threatens to throw it out the window and uses expletives, I don't get involved.

      • Only one of these 4 thats annoying to me is point 2. I have found my peace with the scrolling, its almost like there is too much friction.

Its an awesome tablet for this price.

  • I bought this tablet from gearbest as well. One of the better 7/8inch tablets on the market but is still a bit laggy and apps can occasionally crash.
Overall a really good tablet for the price.

    • Uh, if it's "a bit laggy" it is not one of the better tablets lel.

      • -2

They didn't say that, but one of the better 7/8" tablets, which is accurate.

  • Great tablet spec wise but I have issues where the screen would randomly sleep

  • Can anyone comment on the photo quality? Thank you.

    • +10

The photo looks reasonably good, but is marred by ugly GEARBEST.COM watermarks.

White colour for US$126.99 also available at joybuy

  • Is the OS upgradeable to 7.0+ or is it stuck to 6.0?

  • "the Tab3 8 Plus struggles to complete simple tasks, especially when they demand internet usage. Browsing the web and scrolling on any social media feels extremely sluggish and slow."

    https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/review/android-tablets/lenovo-…

    • Can anyone with one of these confirm whether this is true or not? Looking to purchase a simple tablet to browse the web (multiple tabs, but not excessive) and simple games.

  • Anyone know how long these take to ship? I'm after a travel solution for mid next month.

  • +1

Does it come with free malware?

    • Its an inbuilt feature.

  • just got mine from the previous deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/374414). its ok so far. its a micro sd card slot. not SD. i put in a 64gb card and it corrupted the card. have a read of this article.

I havent had a chance to buy a 32 microsd card. (who uses micro sd cards nowadays??). thinking of returning it.

    • +1

Actually who buys SD these days, I always go micro and in the offchance use an adaptor for legacy appliances with sd

      • +1

My thoughts exactly. Even laptops are coming with microsd slots also.

      • Photographers do.

  • It's a nice little tablet. Probably the best value for money right now.

Latest firmware is quite stable. I have an SD card which works fine though I just let android handle the formatting.

I've got it tiredr with twrp and magisk installed. There are no third party ROMs and bootloader is not currently unlockable.

  • Just bought 2 with cases and free express shipping for $371.96, thanks!

  • I think I'm going to get this tablet to replace my now broken Nexus 7 2013.
I only use it to watch videos so it should do the job just fine.
