Will it be cancelled? I'm scared.

  • +5

Similar as you buy lottery tickets: if you don't buy, you will never win; if you buy a few, you may have a chance to win in the future.

    • +1

I've lost on most DJ bargains

    • +6

The one who never buys tickets has only a slightly smaller chance of winning the jackpot than the one who buys it every week.

      • +2

Pretty sure the one who never buys tickets has zero chance of winning the jackpot and the one who buys every week has only a slightly better chance of winning. Your way around doesn’t make sense.

        • That's the glass half-full vs half-empty perspective.

        • Pretty sure the one who never buys tickets has zero chance of winning the jackpot and the one who buys every week has only a slightly better chance of winning. Your way around doesn’t make sense.

Zero is only slightly less than your odds if you play every week.

The way you phrased it means the exact same thing.

          Do the math.

Standard lotto is 6 numbers out of 45 possible numbers. That's a one in 8 million chance of winning per game. Let's say you play 10 games a week, so 520 games a year, and you do this for 80 years. That's 41600 games you play, each with a 1 in 8m chance of winning it. So you have a 0.5% chance of winning it in your life time. That's only slightly better than zero. So you are statistically expected to win it once in 200 lifetimes of playing the lottery, 10 games a week.

That is assuming you play 10 games a week.. which you won't.

Now if you add up the cost of all the money spent buying those tickets, it will far exceed the actual jackpot (which will be even smaller if you have to split it with others, which you probably will). You are paying well above the expected value for a ticket (that is, how much you should expect to win on average based on the cost of admission, factoring in your odds of winning). In other words, it's a game for suckers. No educated gambler plays with expected value that negative. It's designed to prey on the poor. Some famous person called the lottery a "tax on the poor".

You're probably thinking, but people win the lottery every week? Yes they do. With so many millions of people playing, it is likely someone will win it every week, and several people on a big jackpot day. That person just won't be you. How many people have won the jackpot? A few. How many have never won anything? Millions. You need to put that into perspective when someone tells you, but someone won it last week. How many more people didn't? And you think you're going to be that lucky person?

Those calculations were based on 45 C 6. If you play powerball, the odds drop from 1 in 8 mil to 1 in 45 mil. How many lifetimes would it take to win that by chance? 112. Better be worth it.

The "you have to be in it to win it" line of reasoning is called the Enablers Effect, which is a sucker's line of reasoning that the lotto company takes advantage of. For any game to be wise to play, you have to look at the expected value. If you pay $1 and you are coinflipping for a chance to win $2 or nothing (and lose your dollar), that is a fair game. The expected value is 0 for every flip. That means if you played for ages, you would expect to win or lose 0 at the end of it all. But if the cost of admission was $1, but the amount you can win is $1.80, the expected value is -10 cents. You expect to lose 10 cents on average every time you play. The longer you play, the more you lose. You can get winning streaks, but over the long run, I guarantee you are going to be in the red. There is no good outcome here. But if with your $1, you have a chance to win $2.20, that's an expected value of +10 cents. I would play this all day. You can't lose, and can only win with a positive EV.

But what about lottery? Well, that has a very negative EV. Anyone educated in maths or experienced in gambling will tell you to steer clear.

        • @lostn:

Yep, expected value of not playing is higher than expected value of playing.

Tldr but I'm sure it was for the less statistically inclined.

Not even going to try anymore. Everything just gets canceled.

  • Not going to try.
Looks like it's missing a 1 or 2 in front of the 3.

  • Would have tried if C&C was available, delivery hardly ever gets honoured, thanks for posting anyway!

  • +8

Ordered. Looking forward to the three 30 minute convos with some little old lady on the DJs phone trying to get my refund for the pricing error. Why do I do this to myself.

    • I’ve given it a go. Let’s hope that phone call doesn’t come!

    • Why would you not get a refund?

  • I definitely jumped on board. I've been lucky with DJs and delivery in the past hence thought, why not! Thanks OP for the chance.

  • sucks, i cant pay by credit card, why???

    • I did. But I also (profanity) up my address. Entered my parcel locker, but didn't put the Post office street address…somehow. Lucky it's the GPO one so possibly it will default there anyway.

    • Me too

  • Thanks exactly what we were looking for

  • +1

Is it worth getting it? Anyone knows about the quality of the product?

    • +1

Doesn't matter about quality your order will get cancelled out of stock

  • Fingers crossed. Paypal gave an unexpected error, but cc went through. Go Chloe Blue!

    • how did you pay with paypal

      • I paid with PayPal, was an option.

        • PayPal is best avoided if you want a refund.

  • +10

Bought it yesterday and got cancelled this morning.

    • +1

Then i'm not going to be bothering wasting my time trying to buy this then. Clearly a pricing error.

      • They should have fixed it by now surely.

        • This is DJ we are talking about.

  • Back to $289.95?

    • Not according to what it shows online. But it must be a pricing error any how.

    • Ignore me - I had followed the Sheridan link.

  • +2

Usual DJ rubbish in any case. Can't find my address (despite me having used it with DJ before) so can't proceed to payment stage: "choose another delivery option"… of which there are none. Given others are having orders cancelled no point proceeding - but maybe I should just bill DJ for my time and trouble?

  • Apparently out of stock.

  • Probably a price error, since the pillow cases have the $39.95 pricing. This satin set is also much cheaper: https://www.davidjones.com/home-and-food/bed-and-bath/205621…

    Unfortunately, I don't have a Queen bed =(

  • I've placed an order. We'll see.

  • -1

Got my order in for Chloe blue. Good mother’s gift if it’s honoured.

  • ordered, lets see what happens

  • +1

Anyone know why DJ’s Click and Collect has been disabled site wide?

    • +1

Apparently a rep said it's because of the new implementation of the site, they had an update and are still adjusting. May take a few weeks to get C&C back.

  • Thx
    Chloe blue
    Paypaled

    Forgot about cashrewards.

  • -8

Tried to buy 4, 2 got removed as I paid.
Free delivery turned into $10 delivery.
I'm ready with my angry mum voice for when they cancel my order.

    • Tried to buy 4? Way to broden the deal. Glad it got cancelled

  • Can only pay with DJ AMEX?

  • Steel is sold out

  • +1

    Bought Coral Blue, fingers crossed

  • ok bought chloe blue … i hope they honour it but i can understand if its a price error and I get a refund later on
    fingers cross

  • Their address handling is chaos. Every time my address is shown in different order and looks like the programmers were sleepy when they were coding.
Anyway I ordered one with paypal and get my fingers cross.
    Thanx OP .

  • +1

Sold out both colours, looks expired

  • +1

see how its discounted .. is that the actual worth price of this.. ?
    lol
or nah prob cost them $10 from china to make

  • Party is over??

  • CANCELLED :/

    • Yep, just got my email..refund in 48 hours..

    • same…

  • +2

Cancelled for no reasons. Waste of time. David Jones didn't honour the online purchase.

    • +1

      i know what a rort

  • Cancelled order. Paid by CC.

  • also cancelled

  • Cancelled and no vouchers WTF

  • +6

DJs cancels these orders all the time. I don’t know why people bother. These dj deals/djs should be banned from OzB as it wastes everyone’s time. I still haven’t received a refund from a previous deal

  • Why can’t businesses sell me their stuff at a loss? It’s a great business model. For me…

  • Cancelled.

  • +1

    Cancelled in 2 hours

  • Cancelled

  • Missed out on false hope and getting cancelled on… but noticed on the Sheridan website double/queen/king are all on sale for $149… compromise?

  • +1

What’s your the point of having an order confirmation email only to be cancelled.

  • Paid with giftcard, not cancelled yet, order status is still 'Card Validated'.
    Has anyone experienced this before?

    • That's what it said in the status before mine was cancelled.

    • +1

order status changed to 'at dispatch', fingers crossed.

      • +1

Mine also At dispatch status too

  • +2

Not a deal if they don't honour it. DJs have a history of doing this.

    • +1

this is the 3rd or 4th time for me.

    • +1

Which is the reason why i didn't order this to begin with. I knew it would be cancelled so it's a waste of time.

  • +1

Now listed for $149 on their site. :/

    • -1

All colour choices are now that same price. So in the first place it was definitely a pricing error. No one even got this.

  • 20 hours after purchase I haven't had a cancellation email, only a confirmation one which arrived immediately after purchase.

    • same

    • +3

I just got the order status changed to 'at dispatch'.

  • Anyone's order showing as shipped?

    • +4

mine is still showing 'at dispatch'

    • My one is still showing "at dispatched"

      • +2

I just got an Auspost shipping notification.

        • Thanks for update, finger crossed. Wait for my shipping notification : )

        • @Melissaxxx: did anyone get their sheets?

        • @thatonethere: I haven't received any shipping email yet. Called DJ today and been told have to wait for another 1-2 weeks….

    • I ordered on 4th May and got it on 23rd May. I open the parcel and found only a set of pillow cases which price-tag shows $39.95. What can I do?

      • Contact DJs Online either via e-mail or phone

  • Havn't heard a peep from DJ about this order.

  • I did have to bug them on the phone before they shipped (has been showing as "At dispatch"), not sure if that had anything to do with my receiving a shipping notification. Auspost is showing tracking information, so it seems to be on its way.

    • I have bugged them on the phone too and they didnt say the order was cancelled.

  • +2

I just received the parcel. Only to find just the pillow case. I looked back at the post and all I can see now is the pillow case on sale. Either I've been stitched up. Or I just plain old stuffed up.

    • +1

Unless you stuffed your order and ordered the pillow cases, go have a look at the first email you received when making the purchase. It would have said "300tc Queen Sheet Set" in it. Sheet set is not just pillow cases. That's straight up bait and switch if they've only sent you pillow cases but you can show you've received and order confirmation saying a full sheet set.

      • +1

Yeah double checked the invoice. And it says "300tc Queen sheet set". I will have to call them up and see what's going on. If it ends up being a refund, they better cover the shipping too!

        • Let us know how you go.

        • Yes! Last time they sent the wrong thing and instore refused to refund shipping. Had to go through fb

        • @mrtin: It happened in exactly same way. Whats fb?

        • I have just received an email in regards to the "bed sheet set" and they have refunded the cost of the item and said I could keep the pillow cases.

          Win win.

Hopefully the same will apply to everyone in the same situation. Good luck!

    • +1

I have the exact same thing. On the phone now
      This is bullshit lol
