SSL certs really are a rort aren't they! $150pa for a cert that takes 3 seconds to generate, and a basic validation check to show that the certificate holder's ID is valid (extra EV stipulations).

Such an expensive SSL is specifically designed for big enterprises and financial institutions where the volume of transactions and potential security threats are much higher than at smaller businesses.
Most other websites can get away with a LetsEncrypt solution.
