  • I bought 2 s20 sonoff and both cannot be paired anymore.
    Anyone have this prOblem?

It would be annoying if you installed this in the wall and it stops pairing one day.

    • I have two S20's from LITB which do not pair, and never have despite spending days doing troubleshooting steps and following every online guide on how to pair them.

Did you get yours from LITB recently too?

      • I got mine from bang good.
        Must be same batch?

  • Are these legal to install in Australia?

not on a circuit connected to mains grid

if you are off grid and like your pixies angry, then sure

I suppose technically you cannot legally connect them to fixed wiring.
And it would not be legal to import them commercially.

But we have not completely banned DIY electrical work. Yet.
As long as you are making your own equipment, and it pugs in, nobody minds.

not on a circuit connected to mains grid

Connected via a GPO is fine.

      • But we have not completely banned DIY electrical work. Yet.

I'm pretty sure all states have for 230~240V stuff

        • Fixed wiring yes, appliances no.

A pity about his tourette syndrome. I watched half the video and had no idea what was wrong with it. Does he ever make an actual point?

      • China commandeering these devices remotely and weaponising them against the capitalists

I don't think a licenced electrician is going to put themselves on the line installing these….
Also, fk that…. i think its cool, but im not risking my $400k house burning down and insurance not paying out for non-compliant mods to the electrical wiring.

Is there anything like this that is Aussie compliant?

I have a bekin switch which I connected up to my outside lights so they turn off at sunrise and on at sunset but was wondering if there was anything cheaper.

    • Also interested in this too.

Would love to be able to set up Google home to turn on/off lights without replacing all the downlights

Fibaro and Aeotec both make Z wave switches, that can link with your Google home. using openhabas a hub is one option

    • From next Friday there is homeshow in Sydney. There are many automation providers on the show with special discount. Visit them I am sure you shall find what you seek.

  • Hey @ioio The Brand is NOT Sonoff - that's the model grouping. The brand is Itead. See https://www.itead.cc/sonoff-wifi-wireless-switch.html

Think this a single channel not dual. I have some and they work well with Alexa routines.

  • I bought two s20 smartplugs.

One configured ok. The other disconnected and forgot it's settings everytime I sent it a command. Light in the box sent another out without wanting the duff one back. The replacement acts like it configures but never connects to my wifi.

However the biggest issue is that even the one that works loses contact with the servers (in China?) several times a day. It's totally unreliable.

When it works, it's great. Even links to Google for voice commands.

    • Ewelink says they use Amazon AWS servers. Not sure of hosting location though, but presumably US.

    • How did you manage to get LITB to send a replacement? I have two from them a recent deal and they won't even acknowledge they have a problem, even after I've sent videos showing they won't pair, and when I manage to get one to pair, it drops off just like you described.

I've talked to a normal rep and a supervisor about this issue and I'm getting no where.

If you have basic soldering skills, solder connectors and flash tasmota firmware is the way to make the most use of this little gem.

    • +1

Of course you need a domoticz or other ioT platforms locally installed to control it. Then say goodbye to remote servers.

    • is the way to make the most use of this little gem

      Can you please elaborate.

      Thanks

      • look at the links punky posted below

        • Thanks for your reply.

I have installed Tasmota & Domoticz sometime back but other than not depending on the cloud I couldn't see any other benefits. So I would like to understand what others have done that they couldn't achieve with the standard firmware. Thanks

  • Can anyone recommend a good page to read up on alternative firmware, local server etc

  • Thanks punky
