How many pages can the printer print?

    • +3

Print speed black: ISO: Up to 7.5 ppm, Draft: Up to 20 ppm. Print speed color: ISO:Up to 5.5 ppm, Draft:Up to 16 ppm

      • -7

That's printer speed you have listed. I'm just after how many pages it can print for $19

      • +5

Oh bugger that. I would hate to be standing there for a whole minute and only receive 7.5 pages of black and white printouts. That is slow as buggery. This isn't the late 90's any more.

These printers end up being nothing but landfill.

    • +6

      One at a time.

But seriously, it'll have low ink initial setup cartridges that might get 100 pages if you're lucky. Then they are around $30 for a new black cartridge.

      • +4

So for $19, you get 100 pages worth of print, that's $0.19 per page

If you get a laser printer from OW like the one below for $77 and it prints 700 pages, that works out to cheaper at $0.11 per page

I had a little Brother USB laser printer ($29 from OW) which smelt like cancer. That poor thing only printed 2 pages ($14.50/page) before he was euthanised.

        • Had that Brother 1110 for several years, has been excellent. I rarely print stuff and only ever documents, and never had an issue. Plugged it into an Airport Express to make it wireless too.

        • +2

@muncan: That smell is probably Ozone. A common smell from laser printers and photocopiers.

        • +1

I think I have the same one, Brotger 1110 or something. Thing is a beast that spews document prints at fast speed, but the print quality compared to $60 Big W inkjet was quite poor. Also smoke came out of it when I print more than 20 at a time.

        • +1

@muncan: I have a Fuji Xerox USB laser($29 from OW). After over 5 years of use it refuses to die. The starter toner hasn't ended. I have printed over 1000 pages. I have 2 x spare toner sitting on the shelf, just waiting for the their time in the light. Poor bastards. I am not going to tell them that they have an expiry date.

        • @zealmax: Oh wait I think mine was a Xerox too. Had a circular toner cartridge.

        • If you don't print often, always go laser as the ink won't dry out over time. So many ink jet printers with dry ink over the years in the bin and a cheap laser was all that I needed.

    • Approx 190 black, approx 165 colour.

  • Printer coming up as $39 for me.

      "In 3 days"

      • Say $19, went to buy cause it is pretty much a free scanner…

        Oops! ty

        • +3

until the ink runs dry then its into the wheelie bin…
Usually scan gets locked right away.

        • +4

most gen y just use their phones to take retarded pictures of their completed forms, no one use scanners at home these days. Sad really

        • +1

          @payless69: I don't understand, I can't use it as a scanner if I don't have ink inside?

        • @StoneSin: HP is no charity. They will mess up your HD and then hold you at ransom.
Better to buy the cheap Canon version, easy to find old software to scan forever with dead ink.

        • +2

          @Homr: I use a scanner

        • @payless69: I have a HP C5180 AIO probably about 10 years old, and there is a dubious "low-ink" issue with one of the cartridges (yellow), (it uses individual cartridges for each colour) and as such it completely prevents me from printing, even a document solely in black text.

I can still use the scanner though. Launch "HP Solution Center" (the UI program) and select 'Scan a Document'.

        • @Homr: It's perfectly fine to use your phone to scan documents as long as you don't need them for something important like visa, tax etc.

Just use camscanner in the app store and with a good smartphone you'll end up with a nicely scanned document.

This isn't a ex soviet failed state where we have to stand like drones and scan 2-3 pages of documents in an outdated box that has its own temperament.

        • @RandomDeviation: I know its fine and I never said it wasn't. Just that sometimes you get retards that doesn't know how to take pictures properly!

        • @sam buster: Not denying HP's scummy printer behaviour but just so you know 'black text' doesn't automatically mean using black ink cartridge when it's on Auto or Colour mode. Only when printing in 'greyscale' setting does it ensure the black-only cartridge is used and shouldn't have an issue when yellow or other is low.

        • @Hybroid: Thanks for the tip, Hybroid.
I did know this however, and have my default setting to print in greyscale.
The problem is that as soon as the device is switched on it checks all the ink levels and reports an error and prohibits any printing.
All the other cartridges are between half and two-thirds full, so I don't really know how the yellow got depleted so much quicker.

        • @Homr:

most gen y just use their phones to take retarded pictures of their completed forms

What's retarded about taking photos of forms? Forms are boring and life is short, if a photo is accepted by the organization, then this comment:

no one use scanners at home these days. Sad really

… is sad really. Why would you want to waste away your life scanning forms?

        • @sam buster: I have the exact same issue with my Epson - yellow cartridge suddenly makes it unhappy so it won't let me print anything. Even worse it won't let me scan either! I have run out of printer brands that I will never buy again. HP, Canon, Epson, Brother… I hate you all!

  • +1

Cheaper than the toner itself. FML

    • lol

  • -5

more landfill it should be a crime! (printer)

instead of google home just download the full google suite on your android and enable it and presto

I run mine in parallel with the echo dot. Both have grave history faults telling only the American view!

still a useful talking calculator and gets me some free blues music.

  • +1

Should I buy this or the cartridge?…. hmm….

    • Why don't you have both?

    • Does it come with a full toner or sample size toner?

    • A true ozbargainer would buy carbon paper and do it on their own.

  • Still waiting painfully on my $20 good guys voucher to pick up another

  • +2

Heads up, HP Deskjet series are notorious for failing to print via wifi. Brother works at good guys and says that they get many returns. I had same issue from previous deal.

  • +1

Printer is junk, bought it last time. Supplied ink barely lasts a few dozen pages and costs an arm & leg for a refill.

    • don’t know why I’m getting neg’d

I bought this exactly model for $19 or so last time it was on sale and it’s not worth that

      • Depends on how you use it. If you like to DIY, it may worth it.

        1. You can buy the DIY continuous supply system for about $10 US. Then you can just add cheap ink and use it for much longer.
        2. After you have finished the included cartridge, disassemble it and harvest the step motor, belt etc. You can use these parts for other projects. (You can get at least 4 step motors, 2 or printing and 2 for scanning) It probably cost more if you buy these step motors alone.
        • Just wondering, what are good places to order continuous supply systems from?

    • how is it as a scanner?

  • +4

Please don't buy these landfill printers, excess packaging, poorly made, bad drivers and criminally bad for the environment.

  • I've bought a similar cheapo printer before, and I can only recommend it as a flatbed scanner. Ink will run out in less than 50 pages and quality isn't great. It's not network friendly either, so it'll probably be USB only. It is, however, great as a scanner if you don't already have one.

  • So if I don't buy this printer, what should I buy that is cheap and reliable and does colour as well as B&W?

  • I'm seeing $199 for Google Home when I click the link… Am I doing something wrong???

    • Yes. "In 2 days". Try the link again on Thursday

  • +1

Surprised it hasn't been said yet… Yes, the printer isn't great but you can refill the cartridges yourself if you buy some ink for a few bucks on ebay. Still using the original cartridge it came with from a couple years ago. Granted I don't print much, but it has done the job when I need to print something at home.

  • Don't forget you can cashrewards woolies egift for a 5% discount (matching the ow pricematch). Can also scan rewards card to collect points for future discounts making it arguably better than ow pricematch.
