hey guys i'll see if i can put a picture up on the webiste

  • hmmm, question is can I get to south melb store in 30 mins. I'll have to walk fast, and just hope that they don't close early.

    Great deal by the way.

    Shipping Cost $10

  • How much stock is in your Sydney CBD store?

    • +2

we have plenty in our CBD store

      • OK thanks, might drop by tomorrow at lunch time - hope they haven't sold out by then :)

      • .

  • Nice deal, but I'm not too sure about Iomega. I have an Ioemga 1TB network drive which has performed flawlessly thus far.

I used to have a 1TB WD MyBook plugged into it's USB port and got reasonable performance. However, recently I put a 2TB Iomega 3.5" desktop drive there to increase my network storage. Since then, I am very rarely able to write at more than 1MB/s, compared to the 8-9MB/s I got with the WD.

(I know even 8-9MB/s is pretty slow, but for a $130 drive preventing me from needing to buy a proper NAS/set up a fileserver just for streaming media files, I'm happy to accept it)

  • can we get some more information about which one it is ?

also stock at south melbourne store ?

    • Select is a series of Iomega drives.

  • +1

good deal, does anyone know what brand hdd is inside?
Also, can we get a picture?

    • i have the 3.5" 1TB iomega drive and it is samsung

  • I think IOmega use Samsung drives, but that may be transient.

I am curious if these new high capacity (1Tb) 2.5" usb powered drives are reliable enough over a few years as online backup for a Server.

  • Is there any real benefit in getting a 2.5 instead of a 3.5 inch drive? Would it be just better to spend the extra $10 and get another TB?

Edit: Ahh, 2.5 can be USB powered. Cool, carry on :)

Generally 3.5" drives are called "Desktop" drives and have the AC adaptor whilst 2.5" drives are "Portable" and USB powered as you said. Just a convenience thing.

If anything, desktop drives are generally better if they aren't going to be moved around much as they are 7200rpm where as the portable ones tend to be 5400rpm for lower power consumption.

    • it's just depend how you want to use it, 2.5" more convenient to share/portable….

  • How long is the warranty on this?

    • it has 1 Year warranty

      • Personally prefer the 3-yr warranty samsung 2.5" one (thicker but smaller, look nicer…)

  • very good price.i bought 500GB for $90 weeks ago from the goodguys.what a ripped off

  • What is it with LappyKing and cheap portable hard drives!

I bought my last one there for $138 when their competitors were asking double that!

  • Great price but oh boy this is the geekiest website name I have ever seen.

  • Is Samsung better than this?

    • i would say they use save drives, unless samsung uses western digital, seagate drives, etc.
      iomega uses samsung drives
so the only difference is the enclosure, so failure rate of the drives will be the same

      • +1

I only difference, I see here is the warranty, which is 1 year. Some people might be missing the harvey 1 tb samsung bargain.
99 will be a standard price for usb 2.0 portable 1tb HDD in coming days.

  • Guys … where are the USB keys .. .I want to add to my order but I am unable to find any links??

  • LapykingAdmin - Do you have the 500GB iomega select drive? I bought one from you guys about 12 months ago and love it so much I want another…

    • hello mate, yes we do have the iomega 500GB HDD we sell them for $79

  • 1TB 2.5" That's a big one!!

  • what drive is inside?

  • Nice find!

Are you referring to the OP? Hes the rep.

  • Hey guys those that wanted to know the transfer rate its 480 Mbits/s

    • The theoretical transfer rate for USB 2.0 is 480 Mbits/s. If this drive achieves that, I will buy one and eat it.

  • @rep, are you going to being having any specials on smaller sized external HDD (portable) in terms of storage capacity in the near future?

  • hmm, 1TB USB2 for 99 or 500MB USB3 for 79
    decisions decisions decisions !!

  • Hi, is this deal still running?

  • hello lambsie yes this deal is still on. we've got 50 left at the pitt at street store only 1 per person
