Item location: Hong Kong, Hong Kong < Damn grey import.

Nothing wrong with greys if you know how to handle the phone with care ;)
Bought the Note 8 128GB from a HK seller on eBay 6 months ago, still going strong to this day. touch wood

  • What's the difference between grey import and local? Only warranty?

    • That and cost price. It is up to you to decide whether the peace of mind is worth the extra couple hundred dollars for local stock.

      • +2

Plus grey import is usually dual SIM…

        • usually no samsung pay unless you flash AUS ROM

    • +2

Pretty much. Say you bought the S9 today and received it tomorrow with FedEx overnight, you turn on the phone to find a green line running across the screen or a hairline crack caused during transit. You'll have to take a photo, send it to the seller, wait for response, no response = PayPal dispute which could take weeks, then pay for return postage etc. Damn long process. Local warranty you could just go to any Samsung store and get it replaced. Then there's slight differences such as dual sim etc

    • Local you are covered by ACL. This means warranties are worthless because they're just stating obligations that they already have under ACL.

It's still better to buy grey import stock for low value items like this though because paying inflated prices every time you buy a device loses more money than replacing items if and when they need it.

  • Quite a few cheaper options using the 5% off eBay code.

    • Links?

      • +1

Links? Dude, did you even try? Search for the S9 and sort by price. There’s about 20 listings for brand new S9’s for under $900, so $855 after the 5% off code. There’d be at least another 20 listings that would still end up cheaper than this deal (varying models).

still very pricey for a grey import. I would be hoping for S9+ under $800.

    • +2

      You must be dreaming…

      • -1

Nope. Think thats more than reasonable for a grey import. Paid $768 for S6 64 GB around launch at JBHifi. Theres no reason for these stupid prices, they have to come down at some point. Lots of people are holding onto their phones longer these days as well.

  • $135 odd more for local stock

  • You can't flash these to use Telstra VoWifi or VoLTE due to the different-from-Australian-models (Exynos vs Snapdragon) chipset inside, correct?

    • It is the Snapdragon model (G9600), not the Exynos model (g960fd).

I really do not understand how anyone would risk buying grey when the item price is almost 1K. 200-300 dollar phone yes I will risk it. Not when it come 1K+ flagship.

I recently went through the "buying a flagship" struggle when I break my $300 China phone. Apple is just too pricey, P20 Pro seems to have many little bugs. Take a look at the Oneplus 6 and Mi mix 2S. They are both 30% cheaper then the S9+ (256gb). Then I ask myself, am I going to risk almost 1K on a etailer…..

Price of grey S9+ is not bad, and you get dual sim and SD845, but what good is all that when you don't have the proper warranty to support the device.

I end up signing a contract with Optus since the current Optus deal is same as buying outright.

    • Can you please elaborate on P20 Pro bugs, I was to planning to buy it.

      • +1

The most reported one is the Google map issue which affects the map itself and some claim affects other operations. There is also claim there is a battery draining issue…..

Don't get me wrong, people are reporting the phone works in general. Just annoying small bugs. The question you should as yourself is

1 Do you think you should pay 1K for a buggy product?
2 Does the extra lens worth the trouble?
3 Do you want to deal with a company with problematic customer services?

I am not joking when I say I think long and hard before I decided to go with Samsung and Optus. I do not expect a 1K phone to be problem free, its not realistic in post Y2K product life cycle. Thats why product support is that important.

Price of grey S9+ is not bad, and you get dual sim and SD845

      Best deal for grey S9+?

      • +1

May be not the best one but if you do decided to go for a SD845 and dual sim version, you can only buy grey import. IN that case its better to buy from someone like eglobal, DWI or Amaysim etc. You won't get Samsung local services but at least better that a no name foreign etailer that sells on ebay.

Amaysim is an Australia company so they may be bond by the Australia regulation to give you 24 month warranty, but certainly won't be as responsive as walking into a Samsung or Optus store.

  • I got my S9 for 676 aus dollars from ebay brand new Snapdragon version. If you know what you are looking for, you can get these for below 700 easy. Only downside is no warranty. I buy these phones from ebay and sell it. Make profit!!!

    • okay broden.

    • You must be talking about the 64G version. Remember the 256G are much more expensive because of high demand in UFS2 flash storage.
