  • What's the lowest price it's ever been with discounts/codes? I've seen someone mention $323 before.

  • I paid $399 6 months ago from supercheap auto. Very good headunit

  • Looks good, how do you know what specific head unit is compatible with specific car? Also how is this integrated with Spotify?

    • +2

Aftermarket head units generally will fit just about any vehicle. Exceptions are vehicles like Mazdas with MZD screens, and vehicles like LandCruiser Sahara etc. with A/C controls embedded in the factory screen. What vehicles are you considering fitting it to?

Spotify is generally accessed via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Thanks so much for your help mate, its a Volkswagon Golf 2012

        • +5

You'll need a fascia, ISO adapters, antenna adapter and CANBUS steering wheel control interface. Have a look here and here to get started.

        • Absolute legend cheers mate, knew it wasn't as easy as it looked haha

        • @yaozy: No worries. If you have a look at the Aerpro link, there's an option to punch in this particular Sony head unit, which matches up components to suit. Unfortunately it's never easy with VAG product.

        • +3

You should consider rcd330g (OEM VW headunit). Around $250 on Ali. Has Android auto, Carplay, mirorlink, Bluetooth. "Plug and play" install. Really good unit, bought one recently for my 2011 Skoda.

        • @VeliJoze: yeah looks great actually, did you install it yourself?

        • +1

@yaozy: yes, just pulled out old unit and connected the new one. No need for any additional adaptors. Google it, plenty of info on forums.

        • ^ This is also a great option and very cost-effective, in true OzB spirit.

        • @PinzVidz: I was checking out aliexpress and this seems to be the only unit with CarPlay but no android auto? Also has the most orders https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32832998742.html?pid=808_0000_…

@yaozy: yeah, duuno. I avoid a lot of the no name/lesser known name stuff that comes out of China. eBay is flooded with it, and I get quite a few enquiries from people asking me to fit them, which I say no. Always reliability issues which causes comebacks…

        • @PinzVidz: alright ill stay clear then

      • Hi, Thanks for sharing this useful info here. Does this one fit 2013 Toyota Vellfire? I am thinking replace the head unit which only show Japnese. And if this one is not suit for it, could you recommend me something? Many Thanks

        • If you have a standard Toyota (200mm) double DIN unit in there, it will be super easy to change over, and just requires the 10mm ears for either side of the Sony. If it's an integrated-style unit, you'll need to source a fascia to suit. Toyota has run the same connectors for power/speakers for a long time now, so ISO connectors will be readily available. An antenna adapter will be required, and if it has a factory camera, you'll need a 6V adapter kit as well (this kit varies, depends on whether the camera plug is a 16 pin, 24 pin or 4 pin). If the vehicle has steering wheel controls, one of these will do the trick.

Another option to look at as well is the Kenwood DDX918WS, which is the 200mm Toyota double DIN size, and comes with plug and play connectors for power/speakers. Is a bit of a jump pricewise though…

If you're not sure of what factory unit you have, upload a pic somewhere so we can have a look.

Annoying that the controls are always on the left side.

    • +2

Maybe that's got something to do with the fact that most of the world's cars have their steering wheels on the left.

    • +12

You can always install the head unit upside down. :)

    Obligatory price jacking whinge.

Kenwood DDX9017DABS on their ebay page for $849.85, or $679.88 after 20% off.

Or buy from their own website for $699.85.

i think i posted this in the last xav-100 deal but check out https://github.com/superdavex/Sony-XAV-AX100

allows you to disable the warning screen at startup and put your own image. superdave is the best

    • Latest Sony firmware already disables the warning screen, there's no need for the Superdave firmware anymore.

      • im pretty sure it still shows but doesn't require you to press ok. dave removes it entirely.
