Amazon Gift Card Deal - $20 for $10 (USD) - Almost a Million Sold

172

$20USD Amazon.com Giftcard for only $10USD. It states for US Living Social customers only but doesn't mean you can't buy from the US site (confirmed by myself and other non-US people on Slickdeals). Can use the direct link to NY here (http://livingsocial.com/deals/21336-20-amazon-com-gift-card) and purchase away. This is good for those who buy from Amazon using a US forwarding address or use mail forwarders. Not 100% confirmed you can use for international Amazon orders yet.

This is the fastest selling deal I've ever seen. Almost a million sold 5 hours into the deal. The reason this deal is on is because Amazon recently invested millions into LivingSocial.

  • What's good on Amazon.com for Aussies to buy?

    • books are much cheaper..

      • +1

books are usually much cheaper from UK bookstores - find them on booko.com.au

        • +1

          booko.com.au is amazing

  • I'm a new kindle owner would this work in the kindle store as well?

    • When you apply gift card credit to your account, then when you buy books on kindle it comes from there before it comes from your credit card. So if this is a normal gift certificate, you've no worries.

  • any recommended mail forwarders in the US then?

    • I used Shipito a while ago and had a very good experience.

  • MAC books??!!!

  • Nice one, just bought it. Almost 1 million sold is crazy. Guess it's lucky they aren't selling cupcakes ;)

  • Latest OzB deals posted from Amazon.com, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/amazon.com

  • Good stuff!

  • so my question is, if i purchased something for $80USD (inc shipping) could i then purchase 4x$20 voucher to cover the cost, and hence really only paying $40 USD?

    • You can only purchase 1 per account. Now I suppose you could open multiple accounts but they may check credit card numbers/IP addresses etc so I probably wouldn't try.

"Amazon.com will have the right to close customer accounts and bill alternative forms of payment if a fraudulently obtained Gift Card is redeemed and/or used to make purchases on amazon.com"

  • Can anyone confirm if this can be used for International orders?

    • I would have thought it's available on all orders. On checkout, there is an area for gift card number. You get it for all orders. I purchased a card from Mamapedia a few months back and ordered stuff on my Australian CC although it got shipped to the US.

      • can u enter more than 1 gift card number
thinking of buying a tablet and getting 50% off lol

        • I'm curious to see as well

        • I believe you can add as many as you want. You just go into your account and add the card to your Amazon balance. Your balance changes if you sell books or do work with the mechanical turk (if that's still around) so it's essentially a bank account of sorts.

Voucher purchase is valid for US-based customers only

    • OP already stated that.

    • If it doesn't work, Livingsocial offer 5-day refund terms.

fryzie makes a good point, how will they send the gift card to Australia in 5 days so that you'd be able to get a refund?

      • It's a digital code.

When you buy from amazon there is always a box asking if you have a gift card code or not.

        • I guess that makes it somewhat easier if it's just a code…

A bit hard to wrap up something intangible to a friend though, lol

        • Print off a picture of the gift card ad and wrap that; or put a printout of the email in a nice envelope

  • my credit card name is
    first name/middle initial/last name

but the site only asks for first and last name?

    how should i enter it?

    • Uhhhh.. First name / Last name. If you have a middle name it's almost always on your CC but most merchants won't ask for it.

      • thanks!
hey wait, is this a physical gift card? or just a digital voucher code?
they're not actually going to send it to the address i enter right?

        • Digital Code.

    • Lol

"Voucher purchase is valid for US-based customers only" is a condition of the purchase - therefore this deal is invalid for all Australian based customer. Just because you can exploit the system and there aren't technical controls to prevent it doesn't make it a legitimate deal.

If I was on worldbargain.com then I'd vote this up, but as this is ozbargain I don't see this as a bargain at all.

    • Depends on whether it's usable or not. Regardless of the terms, if somebody here buys the voucher and spends it, and gets the product (whether getting it shipped international by Amazon directly or using a mail forwarding service like shipito, then it doesn't matter what the terms say.

It'd hardly be the first time that OzBargainers have exploited a loophole for personal gain!

      • +4

It very much matters what the terms and conditions say and ozbargain isn't in the business of encouraging people to violate terms and conditions of sale. A loophole, or a vagary in conditions is altogether different than what we have in this case where the T&Cs clearly and unambiguously do not permit non-US customers to purchase.

        • A buying service / mail forwarder is US based :-P

        • -1

u cant get someone else based in the US to buy on your behalf, making it valid for us. problem solved
build that bridge and get over it!

    • +1

I just went to worldbargain.com and was disappointed to not find a website :(

The Book Depository is usually cheaper and doesn't gouge on the shipping cost - they deliver free world wide

    • +2

      Book Depository ONLY has books.

  • How did you guys buy this? They ask the credit card number and US billing address. Can they match the CC with the address?

    • I gave my US forwarding address. The Aus CC has had the $10 authorised. Still does not mean they will complete the process.
Note that Amazon is fine with Aus cards and billing address, even for items that cannot be exported without a forwarder.

  • anyone successfully purchased something with this deal + ship to OZ?

    • They will send the gift cards out after the deal finishes so won't know until then.

    • Its just a digital Gift Card. There is no physical shipping to Australia

      • what I meant is:

anyone used this Digital Gift Card to buy something successfully,
and with confirmation that the item will be ship to Australia?

  • To use your Amazon.com Gift Card, follow these easy steps:

    1. Login to your LivingSocial account
    2. Click on the My Deals link at the top right of the page
    3. Click "Get Gift Card Code" under your Amazon.com deal
    4. Click "Apply to my Amazon.com Account" after your gift card code is displayed. This will take you directly to Amazon.com, and you'll be asked to login to your Amazon account.
    5. Voila! Your gift card will be applied and you'll be able to buy something super cool.
    • Just added mine and it works!

You have successfully redeemed this Gift Card.
The next time you place an order, you will be given the opportunity to use these gift card funds, and you will not have to re-enter your claim code.

      • Current Balance:$20.00
Your balance will never expire. We'll automatically apply your balance towards your next eligible purchase.

        Should have gotten more maybe!

        • Most people who ordered more than one got the rest canceled anyway, so don't feel too bad.

  • Just got the email from Livingsocial and added it my Amazon account. Attempted a test order and got through to the final stage so it looks there isn't any restrictions on the gift card. Great deal.

The Slickdeals thread is at 893 pages and is the most voted on deal in history. I also noticed that at least 4 different US friends posted this on Facebook. Some of the guys on Slickdeals bought 10, 20, 30 etc of these using multiple accounts. Crazy.

  • I tried to buy a few but they only gave me one =[ must be because I used the same credit card even though I used different accounts
    still, one is awesome!

  • Got mine too and redeemed on Amazon. Purchase has gone through fine. So to the negative voters..HA HA

    • I didn't vote negative because I thought we wouldn't get it… I voted negative because I thought we weren't entitled to it.

      • What a shame…

  • Got it, used it, great success :D

  • I got mine also. Thanks to zhenjie for posting this "once-in-a-lifetime" deal. I am guessing the redeemed credit can be used to pay for AWS (EC2, S3) too.
