  • Seems like it has good specifications.
I'll looking for a 15" or 17" laptop with touch screen, any good recommendations?
    Thanks

Honest question - why do you want a 15" or 17" laptop with touchscreen - they're useful for small laptops when you sit relatively close to the screen. But with 15" or 17", you're sitting far away enough that a touchscreen is not that useful. Anyway, if you've made up your mind, then fair enough. But as someone who's used these types of devices, I've never used the touch.

Can confirm. I thought I wanted a 15" touch screen until I got one. I've never used it for anything worthwhile and the number of times people point to things on the screen and touch it, forcing an action was annoying.
I accidentally fritzed the touch screen (probably just stuffed a connection) during a hinge repair and was actually rapt.

        • You can disable the touch input in device manager as well - I've done that a few times!

Good price for the specs including delivery and AU warranty.

Wow this is a great price.

    • yep and if you are strapped for space in apartment or sharehouse in you can put a 2 tb drive in it also and use it as a desktop replacement and store you movies, phone backups etc on it and under the bed when not in use.

Especially for an IPS FHD display. No washed out TN panel here.

  • Anyone know how the GPU holds out? Can I play modern games?

    • Doubtful. You probably couldn't play any AAA titles from the last 2-3 years, and the ones before that wouldn't run great.

The on board graphics are not designed for gaming at all, but more to allow you to run a second monitor for general use without having any stuttering issues.

    • Casual gaming at low/medium settings on most games bar is fine. Just search for 'UHD 620 gaming' on Youtube and people have put up heaps of videos showing FPS for a bunch of different games.

is this windows mixed reality headset compatible?

  • Power cord options are same price

    65W AC Adapter (3pin) - ANZ (USB Type C)
    45W AC Adapter (3pin) - ANZ (USB Type C)

Any reason why anyone choose the 45W over the 65W ?

    • +2

      Might be smaller

    • 65w was for the RX550 version, since this does not have rx550, pick either.

  • Does anyone know how long would it take for the delivery to Melbourne.

    I’m flying on 08/06/2018

    • It most probably won't get to you in time. Maybe ship it to a friend if you really want it?

  • How does the Thinkpad compare to the Dell Inspirons?

  • Was like $849 a week ago when there was the extra cashback…?

Edit: nvm, 256GB SSD instead of 128.

Thinking about getting this for my brother to use for uni. He also wants to play Fortntie on it, would it be necessary to upgrade to the AMD Graphics to run it?

took me less than 20 seconds to google search it…

Would definitely recommend the Rx550, although not that powerful, it's much better than the dedicated graphics

    • Like steven said the 550 is a must if you plan to do gaming that's not old/indie games.

  • Is this better than https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lenovo-156-v330-core-i5-7200u-8… whixh is $799 +$25 postage.

Also, don't forget that this is a Thinkpad, whereas that's a consumer grade V-series notebook. Even though the E-series as on the lower-end of things for a Thinkpad (i.e. it's not a T or X-series), it still has a lot of the flow-down characteristics of a Thinkpad.

    • The V330 has no separate navigation keys (page up/down, home/end), which help navigation in office documents and allow easier keyboard shortcuts in various programs. Also, they keyboard feel might not be as good.

    Lenovo ThinkPad E580 15.6" FHD, i7-8550U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, RX 550 2GB $1089 Delivered from Lenovo

the performance difference between the i5 and the i7 isn't very significant, but the $210 price difference gets you an discrete graphics card - the RX550.

If you don't play games or run anything that requires a GPU, you can save $210 and still get a reasonably fast laptop, and also save on battery life.

  • I didn’t think about the battery life. Thanks!

  • how is this compared to the amazon asus deal?

    • I'd like to know the answer for this too! The specs are very similar except for the SSD. The ASUS one is probably physically smaller also.

  • Great buy, been waiting for something like this. Thanks OP!

  • Any comparable deals with Dell ebay?

    • Or anywhere else ? xD My Uncle needs a laptop like this for work in less than a week :(

  • Link is broken? at least it doesn't work for me

  • Link doesn't appear to be woking for me. Do we have a link somewhere else direct to the website?

  • Has anyone had their laptop sent yet? I ordered the standard one with no extras and shipping keeps getting delayed.

Still have not shipped laptop. Been 20 working days now. Customer service is a joke.

Finally received laptop. Had to call customer service many times before it was sent. Delivery was not too long, however all up time was 5 weeks.
