until runs out …… well they’d have to close the store when they run out of chicken …. or are they saying limited number of 50% off chickens and the rest they chop up and sell at full price …..

might give it a go if i’m passing by one ….. they used to do $10 whole chickens takeaway if you bought a meal as the chicken offer was at the bottom of the docket …

    • +1

Fast food employee here and I can promise you that anything can happen. We've ran out of nuggets before!
They will probably order more chicken but they can never accurately guess how many people would want chicken

      • I thought the company have some maths model to predict?

    • I've had a few instances of chicken running out at Oportos. They do sell a pretty big range aside from the chicken, but the fact it happens is pretty annoying. This was on a regular day as well.

    • I've seen Red Rooster run out of chicken before.
From memory, a whole chicken took 4 hours to cook, and it was the managers call to guess how many chickens would be needed for lunch and dinner rush.

Too many chooks cooked, and it can run as a loss if not purchased. Too few and there literally aren't any to offer customers.

  • +1

    what will the price be?

    • +4

Whole Chicken (5660kJ) A whole succulent chicken, flame-grilled flat and brush-basted with your choice of Chilli, Lemon & Herb or Extremo sauce. $17.00

      • So down to $8.50. Slightly more than a Colesworth chicken but it might be worth it. How does the size compare?

        • +4

My woolies chicken is $9 now

        • +6

much more flavour than coles or woollies chickens ….at same price this much nicer.

        • +4

          @Triton:

          Cost co is still $6

        • @BargainKen:

          Oh i see

        • @BargainKen: And they are large!

        • +1

@sween64: Interesting. I’ll have to try
Nando’s has been my favourite meal for ~15yrs. I smash a whole Nando’s chicken, large chips & drink in one setting every visit.

          Normal sized human/apetite, here.

        • Cole and woolies have increased the prices now.

        • +1

          @sween64: Large being 1.4kg.

I do think Costco chickens are good value, buy one, shred it for sandwiches, pastas and salads. Lunch for half the week done! They are constantly bringing out fresh chickens at costco, so no chicken sitting there for hours like in Coles or woolies.

        • @Mrs W:
Minus the bones, how much is it then?
Better off buying chicken breast and putting it in the slow cooker then shredding.

        • @YogaPants: Pic or vid or it didn't happen.

  • Franchisees getting screwed again?

    • some body has too.

    • +4

how are they screwed? It's a one off. That's why it's so difficult to deal with my franchisees. Wanting everything but giving away one thing once a year and they get soo upset.

      • Your franchisees? Please do tell

  • Can you sign up for flame reward member online?

    • Yeah you can, they also have an app with a digital card inbuilt. The offer should pop up on the app.

      • +1

Thanks. . I dont got data on phone. . So wondering can you screenshot the digital card to use this offer?

        • +1

if you can’t afford data on phone sure you can afford takeaway food ….. get a chicken and cook it yourself from coles …..$5gk and do 2 to save on electricity if you like chicken for lunch sandwiches …. and you have a skill for when they don’t do 50% off chickens …..

        • You can just say your mobile number and they’ll look you up on there system

        • @DandeeVape:

          Oh right thanks

        • +1

@garage sale: most stores have wifi just ask for it.
the one in our town was the Oporto and postcode eg:Oporto2340

        • Use Mcdonalds free wifi:)

    • Do you get $5 off a $10 spend with the app?

      • +1
        • +1

So essentially it can be $3.50 or can it only be $8.50 + $5 off other random stuff?

        • @pennypincher98: Well, it needs to be a $10 spend, so you’d have to buy something else with the $8.50 chicken (or buy two chickens).

        • @itsfree: Yeah, I might rephrase that.

Is this unavailable with any other offer/discounts or can we buy a chicken for $3.50 plus other stuff to make up the $1.50 extra?
Or is the final price for the chicken $8.50?

        • +1

@pennypincher98: Looking in my offer history, the $5 welcome voucher doesn’t seem to have any T&C’s attached to it, so the former should work

        • @itsfree:
It doesn't matter what the welcome voucher saids. The terms for this offer saids not available with any other offer so it will not work
EDIT: See comments from previous promo https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4769369/redir

        • @jdogg: Ah well — can't hurt to try 😄

  • Oporto tastes like shit in WA.

    • +10

Have you tried the shit in other states/territories?

  • Limited amount. There is always a catch.

  • Damn I thought it was today. Drove there all for nothing >_<

    • +2

      Were you first in line?

    • wasn’t for nothing ….now you know how to get to your closest store ……….

they should do it like eats offer where they release coupons and you grab one on your phone app …..that way you know you will get a chicken if you turn up ….. and they can sell the rest to walk-ins ….

  • +1

Keep an eye on the press with what's happening with Red Rooster and Oportos chains. They could implode at any time. So enjoy their product (possibly while you can).

    Sorry to be Debbie Downer.

(Love to hear sunnyc's opinion on this)

    • Every RedRooster and Oportos store always seems busy and they hardly have bargain basement prices. What’s the actual problem?

      • Franchising model
        Supply chain issues

        • Franchise companies have shareholders and they want growth so they squeeze franchisees …… Its not a co-op model where run for benefit of franchisees …..

    • +1

If you look into the stories it's just a handful (maybe 3?) bitter franchisees complaining to the royal commission, they didn't even take their complaints to the franchisor.

      • +1

One submission to a broader senate inquiry into the franchise code of conduct
@least it pushed retail food group out of the headlines for a while
Hmmn Chris Green bailed at the right time…

  • Anyone know how the new tier system works with flame rewards?

    • You should have received an email with this…..

      http://image.email.oporto.com.au/lib/fe9413727d65047f72/m/1/…

      • Yeah thanks got that
Can't seem to find anything on how to level up though

        • +2

From https://www.oporto.com.au/flame-faqs/ >> Reward Dollars, Member Status’, Vouchers and Promotions >> How do I get to a different status level?

          Platinum Status
Achieve 25+ visits or spend $440.00 or more in one transaction over a 365 day period.

          Gold Status
Achieve 13-24 visits or spend $221.00 – $399.99 in one transaction over 365 day period.

          Silver Status
Achieve 7-12 visits or spend $111.00 – $220.00 in one transaction over a 365 day period.

          Orange Status
Sign up to Flame Rewards and you’ll automatically be entered into the entry Orange Status level.

Gold Status = previous earn rate. So unless you visit/buy enough to reach/maintain Gold, this new tiered system is worse than before.

        • +1

@dazeet: Who the heck is spending $440 in one transaction?! 😂

      • +1

reward member 10% or 15% off birthday
meal is the most sad tightarse birthday deal i have seen for long long time

  • Awesome chicken. Had a few sub par burgers before. Seemed like the chicken is best when it is piping hot imo.

    • Agreed. I never get the burgers anymore after trying the chicken

  • Once again a deal that's no where near me.

  • Are the Oporto in food courts participating in this too?

    edit:yes they are.

Almost didn't get mine as I never received the voucher on app or email. But showed the ozbargain image and got away with it

  • +8

Epic bait and switch. Oportos Enfield refused to give it to me as I became a member last night.

    • Did you become a member before or after 5pm yesterday?

    • Stupid neg.
"Valid one per person, redeeming customer must be a fully verified Flame Rewards Member by 5pm 09/06/18 in order to redeem offer."

      • +1

Was verified member at 4.45pm last night but no voucher

    • +1

    • I was about to go there as well before I called to confirm the offer is redeemable only if it shows up on your app (not on my newly registered account)…

    • Did you become a member before or after 5pm yesterday?

Same here. Joined last night, refused at Bexley.

    • Did you become a member before or after 5pm yesterday?

  • +7

Looks like the T&C's exclude anyone who joined after 5pm yesterday.
"Valid one per person, redeeming customer must be a fully verified Flame Rewards Member by 5pm 09/06/18 in order to redeem offer."

  • Successfully redeemed one from the Point Cook store! Thanks OP! 😊😊😊

  • Is this the same size as Nando's whole chicken?

  • Didn't shown up in app, can I just show up in store?

    • It really depends on the person serving you I guess. Almost didn’t get mine as the offer doesn’t show up on my app (I wonder why) but after a while deliberating she decided to give it to me anyway.

  • Signed up at 3pm yesterday. No voucher…

  • I signed up months ago and never got the voucher. I'm showing as a gold member

  • +1

Just had this for lunch. Neggers are salty because they signed up last minute against Terms and Conditions.

  • Thanks OP! I got one with the extremo sauce. It was one of the tastiest chickens I’ve had in a while 🤤

  • Thanks OP. Just placed an order at Macquarie Shopping Center.

  • Can these be refrigerated for up to 5 days?

  • Got one my app but didn't show on my wife's. Maybe because she wasn't actively using it.
