  • Any recommendations for the Hard Drives in terms of reliability?
Also unable to buy 3tb version as it retains its original price of 116 in cart, any idea why?

EDIT: 3tb is $116, it was a price error i think.

    • I bought it at 93. Hoping they'll refund me lol

      • I jumped the gun and bought the My Passport 2tb version :(
Its good you still got it at 93, thats just 1 dollar change. Take a screenshot with the price change and send for your money back.

    • Starts at 9am now :) Seems like the system jumped the gun.

      • where'd you see that it starts at 9am?

        • Now it just changed to 11am lol.. you can see it here about 3/4 of the way down the page on the right-hand side.

        • @doweyy: guess no deal than? and only one in stock

        • @shadowrukia:

Yeah I didn't mention it in the title because of that, I just blacked it out too so people aren't getting confused either. Hopefully someone else gets it later.

  • +3

These are some good deals, although I would avoid the laptop just for its low res screen

  • Any stand out differences between the My Passport and Elements?

    • elements is soldered on.

    • Seems Elements has a 2 year warranty vs 3 years on My Passport

    • +2

Both are soldered on connections according to comments in other deals, Passport has longer warranty & backup software. I've got both for different purposes.

      • Some were talking about sata capability. Like if your HD is corrupted you can still recover the data.. Which one is that one where i can recover my files? Elements or passport?

  • +4

Doh, paid 99 for the 3tb elements at Hardly Normal a couple of weeks ago :(

    • +11

      Reported to the mods.

      • +6

My license has been suspended and I'm in the penalty bin.

  • only one left in stock…

  • -1

Most people have probably already used there $20 of first Amazon AU order coupon.

    • +2

They don't check for new user details so you can use as many emails with the same details and it works fine.

      • So you can setup another new user account and use the discount again? Even if it used the account uses the details and email?

        • +4

As long as the email is different, everything else can be the same and it'll work :)

I've seen reports of people having made up to 20 accounts so far and using the discount code on each one.

        • +1

          @doweyy:

Thanks, just signed up for a new account with the username Scabby Doweyy.

        • @Scab: Totally confirm this - bout one HD, signed out. Created a new account with a different email - same name, address, cc - no problem

  • Thanks OP. Grab one passport and one Sandisk for Switch. Nice deals

  • Thanks! I miss the Binglee sale but get a better deal :-D

  • Bought my passport 2tb . Thanks.

  • I'm getting this trying to use the $20 offer:

There was a problem with your payment method
Your available balance does not cover your order total (including estimated delivery costs). Please choose an additional payment method.

    • add a credit card and select Use this payment method.

  • Damn, bought a WD My Book 4TB for $130 the other day. Wish I waited a bit longer…
Also, WD 2TB My Passport Yellow is $87.99 too. All are dispatched within 4-6 weeks though, bit of a wait :(

    • 4TB for 130 dollars not good ?

    • You might find they quote a pessimistic delivery date depending on their stock/suppliers.

I grabbed one of the WD 2TB My Passport for $59 from a previous deal, the delivery time was going to be 2 months, around the start of August.

I got an email from them saying that's it's now going to be delivered by the end of this week.

  • Compatible with MacOS?

    • Why wouldn’t it be? You can format a drive to anything you want.

  • the WD 2TB White My Passport is $109. the Yellow is $87.99

    • The Elements is also showing as $109.00?

      • Elements seems to be expired, to get passport make sure to select Amazon AU as the seller, up top here for example.

    • I somehow paid 67.99 for blue 2tb passport just an hour ago… Delivery time is 5th to 15th july.

      • Same. That included the $20 voucher you must of had for being a new customer.

        • :)

  • Hehe. Got in just in time. OW price beat made the blue WD My Passport $83.59.

    • You can price match Amazon AU with officer works?

      • +1

Yes they price match with online deals, but if you need to pay postage, then they add that to the price. (This was free postage.)

    • Annoyingly I had issues with the WD My Passport working on USB 3.0 ports, but it worked on USB 2.0 ports. A search online showed this was a common problem. I returned it and exchanged for a Seagate.

  • Thanks OP!

    • Passport includes backup software

  • MY PASSPORT now $109 across all colours, when added to the cart :(

    • Yellow and orange are still $87.99 :)

  • Do you think there will be repercussions for creating multiple accounts to use AMAZON20? I have used it 4 times now and feel very guilty and worried. For the two WD HDDs I just ordered, I used the same gmail address but one of them with a dot inserted in the middle, which gmail ignores.

It's very easy for them to detect this in their system, and from some points of view might be considered fraud, though I haven't combed over the fine print of the promo or Amazon's TOS.

    • It wouldn't be considered fraud, worst they could do is cancel your order and your account. But from our point of view, it doesn't seem like they care as long as they're making money, they keep continuing the promo each month so doesn't seem like they care.

      • Depends if their margin is less than $20 or more.

They don't mind keeping the promo on an indefinite basis to attract new customers but it was for the purpose of being used once per customer, not repeated use.

I've never done something like this, so I do feel bad about it.

        • Yeah I agree, I think they're just trying to aggressively enter the market so this promo allows that. Using this multiple times is a bit dodgy, but I wouldn't say it's fraud.

    • "I used the same gmail address but one of them with a dot inserted in the middle, which gmail ignores."
whoa I didn't know you could do this. what do you mean in the middle? also you still need a different payment option each time right?

      • +1

Putting a dot anywhere before the @ sign, gmail will ignore.

So if your email address is [email protected].

Then j.smith, jsm.ith, j.s.mith, j.s.m.i.t.h, all of these will route to the same address. You can use this to sign up multiple times to a store without creating new email addresses.

You don't need a different payment method each time. It's worked for me with the same paypal address or credit card everywhere.

  • +1

Thanks OP. As of now only ORANGE is available at $87.99. Combined with the NAB personal credit card 10% cashback and AMAZON20 is $61.19 which i think is the cheapest for a 2TB portable drive!

  • +1

Ok. Got the 3tb for $76 with amazon chat. Thanks op

  • +4

Sandisk 200gb is available again - just has a 'June 13' in stock date :)

    • Awesome :)

  • +2

2TB Passport drives are no longer available so expired/sold out.

(why is OzB giving the option to say I'm associated with catch.com.au on this post?)

    • Oh yeah….so it does. Ha!

    • The referral link is for catch as well.

  • +3

Bought the 3TB model for $72.99!
    Thanks OP!

  • Does this have a SATA interface (can take it out and shove it inside a laptop/playstation) or is it USB3 soldered directly onto the HDD like the Toshiba drives at officeworks?

    • I believe these drives aren't shuckable (can't remove out of casing), according to a quick google search.

      • Thanks for the term, I'll use it to do my research now.
I recently (profanity) up bying a non-chuckable drive.

  • -1

Picked up a 200GB microSD for the Switch. Thanks OP

  • How can people still use that Amazon20 code… It has never worked for me / nor did I get an email for it, not sure why. Are you just creating new accounts?

    • I think they are opening new accounts.

      • Thanks!

        • It works - until midnight tonight

  • Ordered the Orange 2TB My Passport 7 days ago and just got this:

      WINNING

      • At first I was upset I wasn't getting the orange one.. but this is a much better deal!!

  • +3

3TB price has dropped again, just got once for same price $72.99
    Thanks.

    • Cool, thanks for the update!

    • Thanks for letting us know, just got one for $72.99 :)

  • 3TB for $73, crazy deal! Now to flog off my 2tb on scumtree for $73 :)

  • Amazing deal. I got my hard drive last week and I am so happy. I was waitkb for a deal like this. Now i need a laptop. Fingers crossed hehe

  • It's only 1 item at $20 of right?
Or order through diff accounts ore than one item to get multiple $20 off?

    • +1

You can get $20 off multiple times if you use new emails each time :) But if you need something, it expires tonight so be quick!

  • Yeah I do - what time?

    • AMAZON20 expires at 11:59pm so get in any time before that, making a new account is easy as

      • Thanks, anxiety issues so decisions are difficult but you guys have helped a lot. Thank you

        • No worries at all, I'd say take the leap if you're looking for a some portable storage, the $ per GB won't get cheaper than the 3TB in the near future I don't reckon!

        • @doweyy: Yeah but not a fan of the elements - I'm looking at a WD 2TB Ultra for $109.99 and a 4TB same for $149.47(US stock though) - more secure and less stress imo. May grab a 1TB For completely portable use but I don't think that will be necessary

        • @doweyy: Seems the new models are cheaper than the current models previous prices even at OW and HN etc

  • Ow are great - could match the $129 price from Amazon Aus but not the $20 coupon. Almost match the $149 from US but not with the T&Cs differing.

  • +1

Before some one asks if you can take the 2.5" hard drive out of the WD Elements portable hard drive case and use it in a laptop computer or a gaming console. No you can't as the USB port is soldered onto the hard drive PCB and there's no SATA port. It's a non standard drive. Don't waste your money trying to open the case in an attempt to do that.

    • Confirmed - researched this for awhile just to find out what non SATA was. no schucking here with WD -Fine with me
