    Legend

Red energy on 9 cards. Now to switch to Qantas red energy offer

    • What’s the offer?

      • +2

        10k QFF for electricity
        5k QFF for gas

        15k points are worth $150

Then $1350 credit for $900 with Amex

Bonus $50 Coles Myer gift card

I should be ok for the next 12 months

  • Red Energy didn't work on my Qantas Ultimate card hmmmm

    • +1

Saved to my QANTAS ultimate card no problem.

      • My mistake, I made a typo. Worked now.

  • Is it possible to put your Red Energy account in credit if i make payments before bills are due?

    • +1

I have done this many times, no problems

      • Cool thanks!

  • +6

You'd have to pay me more than $1000 just to fly with United.

    • Can't you codeshare?

      • +1

There’s a bit of red energy code sharing going on

    • +2

You can also get a free beating if you refuse to get off too

  • Does anyone have a link to a virgin wine bundle with bonus velocity points? Found some expired ones online…

  • +1

Just switched to Powershop a couple of days ago but still in cooling off period, will cancel and sign up for Red Energy with these deals going, Powershop are a bit cheaper but not enough to cover these perks.

Edit. For the people PMing me I will be using the random referral code from the Red Energy page

  • +1

    Conveniently Sparesbox sells gift cards:
    https://www.sparesbox.com.au/digital-gift-card

    Their own gift cards though.

    • Does it trigger the offer?

  • +3

The momentum deal was a lot more favourable.

    • Better rates as well.

  • Can't see this on my Qantas Amex ultimate. How annoying.

    • Doh, just realised you need to click the link, and not register in your offers.

  • Can any one tell me what discounts we get by switching to Red Energy? Is it worth staying there for long term?

    • qantas bonus points of i think of 10k + pay on time discount + decent rates

    • +1

Personally for my usage in my area Powershop will be $11 cheaper a month however
Powershop comes with a 75$ referral credit

      Red Energy comes with
      $50 Coles voucher for referral,
10k Qantas points on sign up (Qantas points can be sold in classifieds for at least 1c per) so $100
Personally I saved 2 Amex cards which is effectively spend $300 for $100 back.
      Total savings $250

So it would take 16 months for Powershops cheaper rates to break even with the Red Energy perks.
But personally I will sign up to Red Energy for about 3 months and then switch to Powershop or whoever has the best deal at the time.

  • How regularly do Red Energy have these cashbacks for Amex?
I use a spreadsheet to calculate usage for most common providers and even with the highest 15% total discount I've found the 32% Origin usage discount works out to be better (by $40 a quarter) but once you apply these cashbacks, Red will top out as a winner. You have to be on top of these bargains though. We don't use a lot at home so YMMV, dependant on how many AMEX cards, and how high your bills are. Being able to pay with Amex for points is always a sweetener.

    • +1

Not very often, I see the same hotel/car rental/HN/cotton on/airport retail ones all the time but not energy providers.

      • Even if it's once a year, 4 AMEX cards will net a return of $200 vs my $160 savings with Origin (@ 32% usage). Not even including the AMEX/Qantas points system. If you have 10+ cards then you're laughing.

    • Ive got 15 amex's.. But currently in a contract with current provider. :(

      • Wow I don't think I've been in a lock-in contract with a provider for a very long time. I've been bouncing between providers to increase the discounts. Tedious but at least they have a record if I ever want to go back to them and start up at a high discount.

      • Yeah that amazes me that in this day and age you can be lock-in to an energy provider. Might just want to check with your current provider to see if you can get out.

  • Please do not ask for Red Energy referrals in comments. Use the randomised referral system for Red Energy. Thanks.

  • Can someone elaborate on this red energy commentary?

I am guessing it's a new power supplier?

  • Do you have to pay the Red Energy bills through its website or can it be through post bill pay as well?

    • +2

I can only say my ICQ is in the 100000s and my whirlpool is under 1000

        • deals posted 1 vs 41?

        • @ajamedor: haha :) mines under as well

        • @googoogaga: Hey let's not compare sizes, now. We're all here for a bargain, my posts on WP are also extremely low. I just don't find deals quickly enough to post

    • +3

Update: Post BillPay is an accepted form of payment however according to this deal's T&C, it's not part of the offer

I've excluded the other dot points - more can be read on the AMEX website

      • Would be interesting if you're allowed to put your account massively in credits.

        • Dont know anyone that refuses upfront money

  • United not coming up on my Vigin issued Amex - can someone link here please?

    • It's targeted. Did you want to use the offer yourself?

  • I did want to use it - I've found previously even if they've been targeted, if I've clicked the links supplied on the awesome Ozbargain page, it's added to my card successfully!

  • Ignore previous - couldn't find it on website, but it was on there via the app - all good!

  • What are the rates for Red Energy?

    • varies depending where you live.

do an online quote to reveal the rates?

    • +2

Compared rates carefully for Melbourne Eastern suburbs, electricity only. Could get $300 from Amex but will stay with Simply Energy. I get 40% off usage and works out chaper.

      • I think they heard me. Just got an email offering 15,000 QFF points to sign up.

        • from Qantas ?

      • +1

I just switched my gas from simply to red. Simply give you a massive discount off an extortionate price. For me (in Montmorency) it worked out as just about the same price. I moved my electric to Tango as they were much cheaper than simply's "Massively discounted" electricity deal. Couldn't stay there anyway as discount was conditional on having both utilities with them.

It's great that you can download your usage data from the ausnet website (or equivalent) and then upload to the vic comparison site. Makes it nice and easy.

    • Don't forget to also compare daily supply charge, Red energy daily supply charge is 26cents cheaper than my previous 2 providers

  • it said Save offer to your Card by 17/07/2018 and spend $150 or more, in one or more transactions, online at www.redenergy.com.au or via phone on 131 806 by 30/11/2018 to get a $50 credit.
Does it mean that only work if you make a payment between 17/07/2018 to 30/11/2018?

    • From when you register till 30/11/2018

    • From now till November basically if you register now.

  • Could any one find United Airline deal through Amex website or have a link to it? Is this targeted deal? Thanks :)

    • It's targeted. Did you want to use it?

      • hey MathNerd, do you still have your offer available? really would appreciate it if you could share with me? thanks

        • i have mine

EDIT: you are right seems to h ave disappeared. was there this mornning. wtf

  • +2

looks like it is not possible to sign up for gas only, you either sign up for both or electricity only

    • Once upon a time I was signed up for electricity only (gas provided via body corp). Have you tried calling them?

      • you can sign up for electricity only, but not for gas, may call them later

    • I have signed up for gas only however I believe it makes you ineligible for any bonus sign up offers.

  • Thanks OP.Finally a good offer from AMEX in 2018.
they haven't been generous this year so far.

  • found a bonus offer for 1000 points for virgin wine but the wine doesn't suit me. If anyone can find another offer I'd be interested.
    https://www.virginwines.com.au/jsp/offer/recr/au/vir/offer_t…

  • Anyone know if it is worth all the efforts needed to switch to red energy for this amex offer we have 6 cards. Currently with AGL. How is the overall compare rates, fees, contract, customer service centre and their current deals??

  • Wow Red Energy already maxed out

    WE'RE SORRY
Unfortunately, the maximum number of Card Members have already enrolled in this offer. Please enjoy the other great offers on American Express Connect.

    • +1

At only 8000, I'm surprised it took so long.

      • Yeah, was expecting it to be exhausted before noon!

  • Just switched energy companies, but guess ill be jumping again to use this offer :)

  • +1

just tried red energy link…won't let me add to card, all gone :(

  • no-one found any good wine offers?

  • Yesterday I paid in advance to red energy website but have not received amex confirmation. I suspect red energy takes time to process the payment? Anyone have any luck?

    • Has the transaction appeared in your transaction history?

      • Yes, in my bank account but not cleared yet. No one here has posted that it has worked yet

        • Takes 5- 90days I think give amex some time to do matching of data

    • Are the payment reference number and account number same?

  • United Airlines offer not available on Velocity Platinum Amex.

  • Can anyone please share their experience on timelines for Qantas points and coles gift card ?

When do they credit the points and send out the gift card

  • found an offer for virgin wines, you need to join the discovery club but it says you can cancel at any time. virginwines.com.au/3919002. Gives you 3000 bonus points but the offer is only $99 so you need to buy something else with it.

  • Applied to switch to Red Energy energy and got declined. Supposedly due to poor credit rating. Did anyone else get their application declined?

    • +1

My current provider is Amaysim and the account is on my name.
When I called red energy, and asked whats the best way to switch over.. they recommended to setup red energy account as a "move in" request instead of "transfer" with my wife's name.

Registered on 9th June, with start date as 13th June. No welcome mail/email received yet and online account doesn't have any information if they successfully took over the property or not.

      • Thanks for the 'move in' tip. I applied on June 6. Rejection letter received via snail mail was dated June 8. Savage.

        • did you sign up online ?

just received an email from them. Apparently Ausgrid was unable to access the meter last week and they had to re-schedule the meter read for this week.

        • Yes I signed up online. Have requested my credit report from illion and will re-attempt sign-up by calling them.

        • @ilubbargains: I was previously advised by many people on ozbargain that switching energy providers doesn’t affect credit rating
