I wouldnt feel bad about it. I went to two stores and 1080s were out of stock. I had to settle with a 1070ti

Between the 1070ti and the 1080, the 1070ti is only 10% weaker but 25% cheaper. I'd go for the 1070 ti every day (If you want super top end go all the way to a 1080ti it'll be worth it long term)

I just sold a reference model for $540 used on the weekend.
I was indecisive whether I should buy this Vega 56 or not. But having thought about it a bit more, it seems like the right choice to purchase it now. From what I've read the future AMD Navi won't be considered as much for gaming.
I'm planning to overclock and undervolt this strix vega 56 card so I can reach between 1070ti and 1080 nvidia range. Using FreeSync monitors and 650W PSU. CPU is i7 from 2014.

Sounds like you know what you're doing. I personally think this is an amazing price for a Strix Vega56.
All I'll say is that this will be the better choice unless you need good OpenGL support.
Navi will be a gaming GPU, it's just it will be about a 1080 equivalent on current estimates, with a 1060 TDP. So a nice card, but probably not worth waiting a year for.
Aside from the (IMO likely) possibility of a new Geforce series soon, the next series of GPUs from both companies will be in late 2019, early 2020 as the 7nm processes and yields align for GPU production.

I have a I5 4590 12 gig of ram and a 750 ti. I currently game on a 900p monitor.
Mainly doing race and flight sims.
I have about $850 to spend. Of that i'd like to reserve some for a new monitor (atleast 24 inchs) preferably an ultra wide one with 100 - 144hz. I'd also like a graphics card that has the power to give me the fps needed for games like raceroom, project cars, dirt rally.
Whats the best combo gfx + monitor i can go with?Ofcourse i could always wait another 6 months for the next graphics card or monitor or purchasing both.

No. I got this one at $599. I think they did not discount from already discounted price. I still bought it although I should have got the Galax 1080 for like $40 or $50 more.
Just picked up an 8gb Rx 580 for $370 at the Ultimo branch. They had heaps of NVIDIA and AMD cards in stock.
Wanted to get the Aorus or Strix but only had the Galax left. So picked it up for $951.
Used to have the Aorus and loved how quiet it was. Hopefully the Galax isn't too noisy
Thanks for the tip off! Just got a GTX 1060 (6gb). I don't think anybody's posted about 1060's yet but mine was $380 for an MSI Armor OC but they also had a cheaper brand (Colorfull I think) for just under $360. Didn't check the 3gb models.

so I just saw this and msy is closed tomorrow (sunday).
Monday is queen's bday and are the stores gonna be open?I drove to Auburn yesterday to find all 1080s were out of stock, except for blowers and a 'refurbished' MSI Gaming X.
So I then drove all the way down to Hurstville, probably losing the savings of this to petrol and tolls, only to find out the same thing. I've settled with a 1070ti which I'm not super happy with given I was happy to pay for a 1080.
It's a fantastic deal, and credit to them for selling off stock at this price. But it's pretty infuriating how they refuse to answer the phone and the stock availability on the website is not accurate at all. Now I don't know whether it's worth driving to Ultimo to see if they have any 1080s in stock.

@GerrardLFC: I went and bought a Galax 1080 today from Ultimo because I changed my mind. If you want the Gigabyte I'm happy to sell it to you and save myself the drive to Hurstville next weekend for the refund. Straight $600 for what I got it for, invoice included. I never opened the box, although strangely the gigabyte box doesn't have stickers over the sides
