apparently coil whine is an issue on these beware - not sure how significant

Missed the DOOM Dark Ages promotion by 2 days.

    • +2

Shame! I bought mine during the promotion, but for those who aren't interested in Doom this is a better deal I guess.

  • +6

Loud fans. Avoid if you have ears lol. A mate bought one and it's very noticeable to him.
If you're Skeptical then Google this Palit fan noise. Apparently theyve used the same fans on multiple cards

Or you can pretend it's the Windows XP era again.

      • Not sure what you mean by that? XP era spanned over 12 years from 2001-2014. During that time I had both the loudest and quietest PCs I've owned.

Can second this on 5070 ti gamerock, and after googling it, it's not an uncommon issue on palit cards as far back at 30 series but a lot of youtube samples and reddit comments for 4070, 4080, 4090, 5070, 5080. Its particularly noticeable when the fans start at 30%, at higher levels like 50% its less noticeable but still there. On my sample its only really 1 of the 3 fans not all of them. I will probably take it back next week when I can spare a couple hours.

    • Though not really an issue for headphone wearers.

    • Luckily I don't have ears….

    • You can manually tune fans to be a bit quieter. Also undervolting helps

  • Yeah I've got this one sitting to pick up but thinking of cancelling due to the noise issue. Interestingly enough I have a Palit 5060ti and its fine…

I also have a ASRock 9070 and its quiet as a mouse.

Have to say they are starting to become closer to what they should be priced *with coupons

It’s crazy that a budget system now costs the same or even higher than a PS5 nowadays.
Although to be fair, I did get a $3k system after I got a PS5, so they serve different purposes (PS5 for physical, PC for digital).

    • +1

Bro, I got a 1080 for $500, and a 2070 for 550-600 (I cant remember exactly now). and each came with good free games
These are still nowhere near what they should be.

  • +3

eh mines good.. have it undervolted and oc'd to 2.8ghz has all its 96 rops. Bought mine off eBay deal though same model would still buy again for 1375 without doom. 5070ti is like the only 5000 series card worth it at the moment since it gets pretty close to a stock 5080 when OC'd, both using the GB203 chip.

Fun fact, Palit have free STL files for 3D printable cover plates to change the outer design and colour to what you want.
I did this process manually with an ASUS TUF 5070ti, took a bit of trial and error, can grab for free from my website if you have that card.
Would LOOOOVE to see more manufactures do what Palit is doing though, especially for those not rocking pure black builds.

    • +3

Philips is also starting to offer 3D files of their replacement parts for home fabrication (either by CNC, 3D printing or some other kind of fabrication), so hopefully other companies follow suit.
(Although it will require the EU to intervene and force those companies to offer those files.)

    • Surprised you didn’t take the chance to plug your YouTube video on the process — for the algorithm: 3D Printed Cover Plates for Computer Parts by Cam Shand

For those wondering, 5070 ti is right around the 9070 XT in gaming performance (and a tiny bit faster on average at 4k, plus better AI frames), though 5000 series are all affected by driver issues, so AMD is better at the moment in that respect.

    Recent 9070 XT deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/906599

    • +2

at 1440p, 5070ti is about 4% faster on average in pure raster, and about 800% faster in AI workloads. Fair enough if AMD is at a good value, and people can swear AI celibacy to justify supporting their favorite multibillion corp, but for ~3% difference in price, it's a no brainer to me. Of course I would prefer both companies to compete harder, but one of them has a strong but undeserved reputation for being "good value".

5070 Ti is MUCH better at path tracing and ray reconstruction than the 9070 XT, so at the same price I’d grab the 5070 Ti anyway.

      • +3

the 9070XT only made sense for that one week it was $1139 and the 5070ti was pushing $1600 lol. once the hype has died down the 5070ti is clearly the winner as the 9070xt is now like $1250 starting and you can get the 5070ti for $1200-1300 cheers

        • +2

9070 XT still makes sense if you’re a Linux user, or if you want stable drivers.
But on a hardware/$ level, the 5070 Ti beats out the 9070 XT.
It’s better to just go for the RX 9070 anyway, since it’s just the same Navi 48 chip with 8 fewer compute units, which you can overclock to get XT performance anyway.

          • +1

@FujinShu: That’s an exactly what I ended up doing. At 1050 the 9070 actually punches above its weight

  • +2

I have this card and no coil whine at all when it runs with the highest performance. May be i'm lucky.

  • -1

Definitely comes with 16x more of the Jensen frames, absolutely a steal

  • I got this card for $1200 and love it a lot! Just about half way through Doom Dark Ages as I luckily got the last deal which gave me a copy of it.

Shame this one misses out but still worth it :)

    • +1

$1200? Never seen a 5070ti under about $1350.. guessing you are including some kind of "gift cards" or something, but net $1200?

      • +1

        Probably trs and gift cards

        • Correct, or run it through an ABN

  • I once went to test it at a shop and the fan was quite loud.

    • Playting through Doom right now, it's sitting at ~58c, and on the default 'silent' profile fans are at 30% - almost totally silent.
