  • Bought Google Mini. Thanks OP

    • Hey what do you guys use the google mini for? Got one couple of weeks ago, and I use it as a bluetooth speaker and kids keep asking google to make fart noises.

      • have on in the study, linked to Home assistant on R Pi, for text to speech.

Also google play music (son's account)

      • It's good for setting alarms, asking for forecasts, asking what the time is, controlling chromecasts and smart plugs.

        • So pretty much everything you can do on your phone?

        • @zealmax: It's the same Google Assistant as you can have on your phone, it's just more convenient as you don't need to find/go to your phone and activate the assistant, as it's always listening for you to activate it.

It can play music too, although the Minis don't have the best speaker, it's probably better than your phone.

  • If I can indulge on any experts advice out there - will a chromecast stream faultlessly from a macbook pro (2013) and iphone 5s? I have an apple TV (gen 3 I think) and have always been underwhelmed with it. If I stream from my macbook (using safari, chrome etc) it is jittery and jumpy. With my iphone it runs smooth but cuts out every 10 min and I have to restart. Added to that the apps that require me to use my phone/comp you can't install on the apple TV (abc iview, channel 9 app etc). Very frustrating. I have very fast internet and it runs smooth on the comp/phone… Thanks!

    • I think you can mirror the entire Mac display if you use Chrome, but it doesn't mirror sound. If I recall correctly.

      • I mirror my entire display to a chromecast 1 using chrome on windows and it does do sound if that information helps anyone.

    • I’d check your wifi connection - I reckon that could be the bottleneck. If you can, connect your Apple TV to your router via Ethernet cable to test if it’s on that end.

I had similar problems with my Apple TV. It frustrated the crap out of me and I ended up building a home theatre pc (and then upgraded it to play oculus).

    • I am in similar situation. I have a 2nd gen Apple TV and Apple stopped updating the software a while back. I found that with the newest iOS it has become more unstable. It would crash from time to time. Some videos just won't play.

I just bought a Chromecast and casting YouTube and Stan from my iPhone/iPad is a breeze. I have tried casting VLC from my iMac and it seems to work okay.

  • good deal, but anyone know of a deal on Chromecast Ultra?

  • is this the best price ever ?

  • Does OW price beat guarantee work for items the same price at a competitor?

    • no. I got rejected when I wanted to price match/beat by 5% a Square paypass point of sale system with the one listed directly on square's website. They said no because it's already at the same price.

  • Amazing, bought one yesterday and in a matter of minutes it was available for pick up in my local store. Well done Officeworks.

  • Click and Collect option is not showing for me? does anyone else have this problem. with the $5 for shipping it's cheaper to just buy in store…
