    Sapphire at $99 is rare

    • Sapphire glass, simple design, khaki nylon band…. 3bar water resistance.

What segment are they trying to sell to?

      • +1

        Watch nerds

        • +1

Many watches costing 20 times as much have the same rating.

    • Rare due to market segmentation. Actual costs are very little compared to the entire BOM for the watch.

This most probably is flat and skinny in terms of thickness for the sapphire crystal. So they get more per boule. Similar to silicon wafers smaller the chip the better the return per wafer.

Watch companies artificially segment it for price reasons.

    • +1

It's actually become a lot more common thanks to the Chinese. You can get a Chinese made watch with a Jap Miyota quartz and Sapphire for ~$40, or a Chinese made watch with a Seiko automatic movement and sapphire for less than $100. Sapphire doesn't cost as much as the Swiss and Japanese will make you believe, but it is great for marketing and insane profiteering.

      • that youtube guy who bends phones, said a good sapphire is very hard to make .. when he was testing the htc u11

        • I'd agree. All are not equal. I have some that are domed, double domed, internal AR coated, super reflective and finger print magnets. You definitely get more when you move to the affordable luxury watch category, over $500 US.

At the same time, phones and watch crystals are quite different, especially the shape, thickness and rigidity. There are some interesting clips on Youtube of guys going to town on sapphire crystals and they take a beating.

Can I swim in these water resistant 30m/100m? Thanks

    • 30m no. 100m not for long, not very deep and the crown should be designed to make a seal - even if not screw down. I only take one of my divers if I'm going for more than a splash.

    • Eco-Drive
    • Under $100, with Free Express Shipping

Normally it's pick one or the other, but this deal has both.
    A steal.

    Thanks WatchNerd and Starbuy.

1080 is also sapphire glass which is amazing for that money!

      • Indeed.

        • +1

I have a non sapphire ecodrive and even it's glass is impressively scratch resistant!

  • Hmm baby monster 100M ….Wr200 would be nice.

    • +2

It's no monster, but for the price it is a nice "homage" - bought for $156 from last deal, enjoying it

    • Lack of wr200 would be due to no screw down crown I'd say - that feature is probably a few $$$ for them.

    • +1

I have removed it from the post because I've heard rumours that it could be even cheaper soon.

      • I hope not cheaper than $156 :(

        • -1

Yes sorry, I will be posting it tonight around 10pm. You might have to buy another one haha.

  • @Watchnerd, What would you suggest for a gift for a female in the 100-250 range? (Not too girly though)

    • A girl could get away with the AU1080 Black or White 38mm Sapphire in this post if she is ok with that size.

Women are wearing bigger watches just like men these days.

      • Yeah, those both look great! Also maybe the Citizen Eco Drive BM7262-57A
        Its just 40mm, looks nice.

  • Thanks WatchNerd! Very tempted by the BM8470-03A but not sure about the off-white colour. I think I like this one better, but can't justify paying almost double the price for it!

I've had that watch for about a year now, in fact I'm wearing it today. The colours in the product shot don't look quite right to me, the colour looks a bit cold compared the the one on my wrist. It's been a very good watch. The only thing bad about it (minus subjective opinions on looks) is that it has mineral glass which will scratch.

      • thanks man! how would you rate the leather strap?

  • Those 1080's look great nice for $99. Does anyone have any experience with changing the strap? One of the reviews noted it was bolted on (odd for a NATO)

    • Where did you find this review? I was wondering the same thing.

      • On the Starbuy site itself. Doesn't matter, buying one anyway. Can't beat that price!

    • This guy on Reddit seems to have used other straps with it. Would love to hear confirmation though as that other review somewhat disagrees.

      • +1

Hello all. Thank you for the post WatchNerd.

Just to confirm, the AU1080 series uses the loop-de-loop principle of Nato Straps and is certainly not affixed to the watch case in any way. Thanks.

        • Thanks for the clarification - purchased :)

  • +2

Thanks watchnerd. I'm proud of myself for not buying any more watches, but I do love my wenger :)

  • +2

Thanks, WatchNerd. Some nice watches there.

  • +1

The AW1360 looks like the Naviforce 9044 :)

    • +2

The Naviforce 9044 is a homage of this Citizen Eco-Drive.

      • +1

Ha, just a little bit! I received my ~$11 Naviforce from a recent deal just a few days ago. Looks good, happy so far.

  • +2

Eco-Drive means the watch is solar powered, it has a rechargeable battery.
Reports from members in previous deals say that the rechargeable battery is still working in their older eco-drives after 10 years or more.

From some Eco-drive watches that I have that are over ten years old, I can report a little from column A and a little from column B. One still works, the others stopped in the last few of years. I didn't always have them on constant rotation so they may have suffered for being stuck in a drawer and not being charged for long periods.

  • Eligible for TRS?

    • +1

@onomatopoeia , all our items are shipped with an ABN invoice so items are eligible for TRS. Invoice values have to be $300 or higher to qualify. Thanks

  • Hmm that 1080 is very very tempting!

    • My 960 reckons so too.

  • +1

    Some nice watches for $100.

  • +1

I won't get any watch larger than 43mm no matter what the price is. Good for bulky blokes.

  • +3

A couple of weeks ago I just used mobile to tell time and was happy. Now, I have bought one watch, have 4 more en-route, and have picked out my 'grail' watch. Thanks WatchNerd and OzBargain!

  • Do the AU1080 watches have any form of dial illumination for low/no light visibility?

    • @duyfken No dial illumination on the AU1080 models I'm sorry.

  • Pretty good price on this Citizen Eco-Drive BM8475-26E, $127.00 - 10% PIZZAZZ = $114.30 shipped
