Open a Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account, Receive 10,000 QFF Points with 10 Eligible Transactions in First 2 Months

2881

I was looking at wearable payment options to avoid buying a new watch and saw this offer in the T&Cs of Bankwest's Qantas account.

To get the points you need to make 10 eligible transaction in the first 2 calendar months of opening the account.
Transaction must be $2 or greater and you need to have your account still open at he end of the promo period (31/08/18).
Check the terms for the full list of excluded transactions but pretty the standard gambling, Bpay, government etc.

Monthly fee is $6 but waived if you deposit $2k.
You earn 12 points per $100 in the account each month (0.4 per day) depending on your points valuation and tax brackets may not be too bad for some.

The more important feature in my personal view is 5 points per eligible transaction and with no reference to a dollar value on this normally. This is greater return for sub $5 transactions if you value a point at 1 cent but obliviously depends on your own valuation.

A snapshot of the relevant points offer terms.
And full terms.

  • Does anyone know how they notify you of the points earned. Do you get an email at the end of the month? A letter? Do they points just magically appear in my QFF account?

    • Would love to know this too, my guess is they’ll just show but not until some time after 31/8

    • They magically appeared into my QFF account, 74 points to be exact. Did 10x$2 transactions and had a couple of other deposits along the way.

      From the T&C's:

TLDR - points can be credited at any time within 60 days after the promotion period ends. Promotion period ends 31 August so points could take up to 30 October to be credited. Account needs to stay open until points are credited. Also 10 transactions within first 2 months of opening need to be greater than $2.

The 10,000 bonus Qantas Points Promotion is a stand-alone
promotion and is only available to new Bankwest transaction
account customers who open a Bankwest Qantas Transaction
Account on or before 31 August 2018 and meet all of the following
      criteria:
Within 2 full calendar months from account opening, you must
complete at least 10 Eligible Transactions. Each transaction must
be $2.00 or greater. E.g. if you open an account on 18 June 2018,
you must perform 10 Eligible Transactions (with each purchase
being at least $2.00) by the 17th August 2018.
The Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account must remain open
during the promotional period and at the time of crediting the
Qantas Points. The Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account must be
linked to a valid Qantas Frequent Flyer account to receive bonus
      Qantas Points.
If you have satisfied all of the eligibility criteria, 10,000 bonus
Qantas Points will be credited to the Qantas Frequent Flyer
account linked to the Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account within
60 days of you meeting the eligibility criteria.

    • Update: Yup the points for July appeared in my QFF account like magic.

No 10k yet, but I think it will need a few more weeks.

  • +1

Received 6 points early July and 71 points this month.

When shall I expect the bonus 10K points ?

    • @Sleepy24seven From what I read, it should be credited after completion of 60 days…
      But in reality, who knows….

  • +3

I like the bank's interface, especially the email system. It is so transparent and easy to email them, compose an email.
Hate those banks who dont use emails and insist you call them every single time!
    Westpac in particular.

  • How often do the points get reflected on Qantas? Been using them for a month but not a single point shown yet.

    • Last month I got credit on 6 August for my transactions to that date. I think 6 sept will be next date. Post below also suggests 6 sept likely

  • Hey guys, opened this account last week but just realized that given the promo period ends 31/8, will I still be eligible for the 10k points for 10 transactions made aug-oct?

  • Last month my points got transferred on the 6th of the month so I’m thinking it might depend on the date you opened the account. I opened mine on the 10th of July. Hoping the bonus points go in on 6th of September…

  • anyone got the bonus 10K?

  • I'm holding my breath for the bonus 10k to come in 6th September, but nothing showing so far.

  • How long did it take to get the card once the account was open?

    • Less than a week.

  • +1

Just got my 10K QFF points from Bankwest. I'm going to keep the account for a while - I think it's novel. No plans to dice with death doing micro transactions though, I'll leave that up to the adventurous.

  • +1

I got my 10k points as well :)

    • How long after the 10 transactions did you get the points?

      • Not certain.. The first 10 transactions were probably in the first two weeks of the deal and I just got the points posted today.

  • My points just come today, and made 10 transaction in the last cpl days of eligibility

  • Got my points this morning,
    Thanks OP

  • Got my points this AM too. Don't think I'll use the account really from here on out so will try close it early next week and see how that goes…

  • Got my points this morning!

  • Received my 10k points also. Could keep it open for the 5pts per small transaction, but more effort than it's worth considering I'd need to move funds to avoid the account keeping fee and carry an additional card on me since they do not support Apple Pay. I've sent my request to close.

  • Got mine 10K points too :)
Now have to cancel the account :p

  • Received the 10K bonus points.

    I’m closing my account.

  • Got my 10k points as well.

    Thanks for the deal OP.

    Time to close the account.

  • Like others, I also got my points. Planning to setup monthly automatic $2k in/out to avoid fees and keep the account active for micro-transactions here and there if and when I remember doing a couple of split payments at supermarket checkouts. Could be handy as an on-going thing :-)

  • Got my 10k points today :)
    Thanks OP!

  • got my points too!!any way to close the account online? don't wana call and get bugged.

    • You can use the live chat

      • txx mate..will give it a go..

        • +1

yep..chat was quick and easy..no questions asked..2 min job..thanks much hilman.

  • Got the points today, thanks OP

    • +1

Should do $2000 transfer for the month before closing? Might just to play it safe

  • +1

    Got the points too! :D

Might keep the account, good to get points without a credit card.

  • Got my points this morning. Easy money!

  • Just got my points too! Closed my account through their ‘Ask Us’ live chat.

  • Good news: Just checked and on 5-9-2018 I have received 10,166 points. The 166 points must be for my monthly transactions. Thanks OP & BankWest :-)
I signed up because of the deal, now I find I really like them: good communication interface, Qantas points, easy to use…..
Should I ditch my Citibank Debit Card and NAB Credit Card to this? Just for my personal expenses….
It's a bit of a pain to try to remember transferring $2k each month to avoid the Account Fee. Cant do Direct Debit b'cos some days my other bank account falls below $2k :-(

    • Is it strange you got 166 and I got 163 when these numbers aren't divisible by 5? Have I missed something?

      • I thought this is the amount of my purchases?

        • But shouldn't it be 160,165, or 170? If each transaction Is 5 points? Wait I just thought about it, there may be points for savings in the account. I think there may be

        • +1

Yes, you need to also count the interest credited in QFF points

  • Got my 10000 points today and decided to keep Bankwest. I love the payment ring and the 5 QFF for each coffee I buy.

    • 5 QFF for each coffee - how does this happen? Can you please elaborate…

      • +2

5 QFF for each transaction on the card regardless of the amount, its the best feature of the account aside from the 10k bonus. I decided to keep the account so that I can put through transactions less than $3 and still earn 5 QFF :-)

        • That's good to know. Thanks for sharing!

  • Has anyone NOT received the 10k bónus points that previously had bankwest transaction account

    • yes

  • Got mine two days ago.

    Yayyyyyyyyyyyy

  • -1

Yay, got my 10K Qantas points on September 5th like other posters, and have now closed the account.

In case it helps anyone else, steps to close the account: Transfer out any balance remaining through internet banking -> Phone: 13 17 19 -> 2: inquire about existing account -> 6: other inquiries -> 1: transaction account -> hold for 2 mins in queue -> knew my name straight away from the mobile number that I was calling from -> asked for my verbal password / identification password -> asked to hold for 2 mins whilst closing the account -> all done, total call time 5 mins or less. Statements are still accessible through online banking for the next 5 years.

    • If you have the app installed, you can also use their live chat to close your account - this is what I did.

Easier than waiting on hold especially at peak times, found their live chat to answer instantly.

  • Can you check online on Bankwest to see if any bonus Qantas points are being given?

    • Points earned, including bonus points are shown on the end of month statements before the points even arrive in your Qantas account

  • Account closed in 3 mins over chat.

    Very easy

  • I completed everything but haven't received my points. Opened in July and completed transactions by 30 August. Has anyone else not received points? Could I be missing something?

    • +1

I received mine. I completed mine by 10 August so maybe you're in next batch? Yours sounds fine, 10x$2, all done in July and Aug, I think that's it. Only also can't have had this account previously, and they need to have your correct Qantas number

      • Thanks for the response. My last transaction was on 30 August so that might be why. Must have missed this batch of points.

  • Got my points, woohoo!!
I think I want to keep the account open for small purchases, however debating whether or not to keep the platinum master card, is has some good features that are usually only offered on credit cards!
Only pitfall is depositing $4k each month into the account.
    - Three months insurance for loss, theft or damage on certain purchases
    - Up to twelve months extended warranty insurance on certain purchases made in Australia
