Acer Aspire A114 14" (Pentium N4200, 64GB eMMC, 4GB RAM) Windows 10 S Laptop - $296 @ Harvey Norman

40

Good price for a budget N4200 laptop. Even better if you intend to wipe the pre-load Windows S and install Linux on it.

Or you may even be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for free Although not sure if this particular model is eligible since its a low-cost PC.

  • Interdasting that this unit is available on Amazon as an FHD unit for usd$169 - I reckon w/ an SSD it might be a goer.

    • That model does have a FHD screen, but has less storage (32GB) and slower CPU (N3450)

  • It’s a Pentium Processor not Celeron..

    • Updated, thanks for pointing that out.

I think this personally is a good price for what you are getting.
64GB eMMC will at least go some way to allow you to do updates unlike 32GB.
4GB of ram isn't great, but to expect any more at this price is absurd.
Quad core Pentium processor is a lot better than the other dual core celerons at this price.
Also a +1 to having a USB 3 port on there.

According to the image in HN's description, you can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro via store.

  • How is this for general purposes like Microsoft Excel and maybe opening up an AutoCAD file once in awhile? Thanks!

    • Excel will run just fine, AutoCAD might struggle but if it's not daily work then it may be usable.

  • @RickyVanPersie

Unless you can put Windows 10 Pro or have a licence for Windows 10 Home, you may not be able to install AutoCAD on it. Because with
Windows S you can only install Windows Store apps. 4GB of RAM is also a very limiting factor for any kind of serious productivity work. If you are looking for a work laptop look elsewhere.
