Some Logitech Gear - 100% Cashback Via Online Redemption - Starts 1 Feb 2011

4040

Some Logitech Mice, Keyboards, Webcams, Headsets and Cooling Pads are able to claim 100% cashback from Feb 1

see the website here
http://www.logitechcashback.com.au

still not a bad deal - given that after cashback, you essentially get the product for free

The stickers are on ALL the products at Dick Smith Arndale - and on the sticker it says, "Purchase me and receive 100% cashback". The upload is a photo of the sticker itself. I got excited as I thought I could pick up a logitech steering wheel with the cash back, but upon upon further investigation, I can see that only a limited number of products are included in this deal.

Only applies to these old models but 5 per household is not bad.

M100 wired mouse
M215 wireless mouse
K200 keyboard
C200/C210 web cam
Clearchat style headset
MK250/MK260 wireless combo
N100/N120 cooling pad

$300,000 is available for the cashback. If there are just 3,000 customers, so far, who know about the deal, that's about $100 each.

So, just a heads up there is a chance you won't get a cashback

  • Thanks for the great bargain, but I have a slight concern. When I clicked on the yellow "Print Claim Form" button my internet explorer window crashed and I could not recover the page anymore. Do you think I can just print my confirmation email? I think it has pretty much the same information in it. Thanks.

    • try selecting work offline and then going back to that page via history. Also they should send you the same thing to your email account.

      • Weird…. none of the cashback site shows up in my browser history. I guess a print out of the email will have to do.

        • Should not be an issue i don't think. All the info is there.

    • The same thing happened to me. I called them up and they said printing the email is alright too

I don't think this is the last we'll hear of this deal - there will be a lot of upset customers over the coming few weeks & lots of complaints will be made to the ACCC.

Logitech could be in breach of the Competition and Consumer Act (previously the Trade Practices Act) - the Act talks about misleading conduct and requires that:

"If retailers advertise goods at a specific
price, they should ensure they have
    reasonable quantities of the good
available for customers to buy for a
reasonable period of time. If there is not
a reasonable chance that the goods will
be available at the advertised price, the
business may have broken the law.

Retailers should be able to show that
they made the offer in good faith and
had reasonable stock to meet the likely
demand for the advertised goods for the
    length of the promotion"
    Taken from here

    • First in first served. How are they breaking the law there? 300K worth of stuff is not just a few things. If however customers buy to claim the cash back without knowing that the promotion has already closed then they should be entitled to a full refund from the store.

      • most of the stores in the list have a refund policy…

        • Refund FTW!!!

    • Ummm ??? How are they in breach of the act ??? they were giving away discontinued lines…

      • -2

If they could reasonably know that the stock would sell out very quickly then they would be in breach of the act by running the promotion throughout February - particularly if they placed those stickers on items that weren't covered by the sale & particularly if they don't put the same effort into removing the stickers now that they put into putting the stickers on last week.

        • The would be able to justify the promotion on the basis of historical sales. If the products of each of the items generated 300k of sales in one month, this would constitute evidence that the promotion was fairly described and advertised.

The could not have envisaged (maybe the OzBargainers could have) such a response that the $300 would be utilised in less than one day.

Any retailer should be obliged to offer refunds where the claim has not been made. The retailers have made enough of a margin today on the sales of the products where the claims have been successful and therefore should refund any items that haven't been claimed. How they manage to do this would be tricky (could be quite easy if they had to have the original receipt supplied).

    • but t&c was pretty clear in that either when the time runs out or the money!

how do u determine reasonable amount? they've set it for $300K.

      • considering every store i visited in Melbourne this morning had at least one of the items available, i consider that reasonable…

        • but that goes to show, doesn't it, how there was WAYYY more stock on shelves (on only the first day mind you) than they were willing to give away. is that considered reasonable? I don't actually know, I am asking…

I was the family courier today, running around, and across the city to pick up what everyone wanted (in blistering 40 deg heat… FML…) managed to get everything except for one item… to get home an realise that none of it could be claimed… :( - my point is, there is still a lot of stock around

the overall point i am trying to make here is, if, hypothetically, logitech sells 500,000 worth of product on an ordinary day, then this offer would be unreasonable, if on the other hand, logitech sells 20,000 worth of product, then it would be much more reasonable… but i guess we don't know which end of the scale it is…

      • I guess for him "reasonable" will be $30million. (If they want to last a whole month)
Alternatively limit it to 1 day only.

    • +4

I hope they don't get many complaints, or they won't consider running something like this promotion again.

      • of course there's gonna be complaints. people are by their nature complainers and can complain over the most trivial things

    • Then Catch of the Day is in breach of this Act every single time a good deal is on… (PS3 deal anyone?)

      • lol yeah now that must be breaching some law …. false advertising to get ppl to waste their time on their site to get their hits up.

      • +2

Well I like this deal better than Crap-of-the-Day's.

At least logitech's website didn't keep crashing and you could see the progress of the promotion.

With COTD, over 1,000,000 hits just to buy 1 Samsung 640GB HDD for $29 lol

    • Logi isn't a retailer so they probably wouldn't be in breach of the Act.

But a promotion they advertise for 28 days selling through in 13.5hrs? For non-OB people who bought this, it is somewhat unreasonable to expect that they couldn't claim their cashback on the first day of the promo!

Hopefully Logi will honour cashbacks for people with receipts dated today.

FWIW, I managed to sneak an online order and claimed it.

      • i hope so too, except you cannot lodge a claim anymore, so you don't have a claim number or claim form to send to them….

      • they also said whatever finished 1st

  • 300k gone

There are going to be some people pretty pissed off when they buy their gear and can't get moneyback.

I reckon there are a few scammers out there who will have paid way over RRP for their gear from a
"friendly store" and will then get say $1k (5 x $200) back for 5 mice with an RRP of $29 each….

    • i hope logitech would catch those reatilers out, if they are selling way above RRP.

    • I'm sure in such a case Logitech would nullify the claim.

      • Nothing in the T&Cs will allow Logitech to cancel such claims.

    • They will know the maximum claim and investigate those claims that exceed that amount.

  • There must be a certain percentage of failed claims due to TC violations, wrong products with stickers etc so that means a certain percentage of the fund might become available again?
I couldn't decide if it was just greed motivating me or not as I am pretty happy with most of the gear I have. I decided that I didn't actually need any of those things…well maybe a second wireless mouse would have been OK anyway, I ended up not able to get away this morning so no soup for me.
No biggie, but i wonder once all the whingeing starts if they'll some kind of round 2.

    • some kind of round 2.

Doubt it, stores i visited said those items are being discontinued…

      • i'm sure they are still more of those items. from ppl description the wired keybraod and mouse didn't really sell very well.

        • What I mean is: what happens to the (guessing) 5-10% potential funds from the dud claims that they find once they process everything?
That plus 27 days of pissed off customers who can't claim anything may motivate them to do a smaller round 2 later on.

  • Also, Harvey Norman in Melb CBD had refused to put the Gold Stickers on the items or advertise the promotion because they didn't want to disappoint customers after the promotions was stopped…

    • Yeah that was a smart approach.
This thing is still active for another 27 days…

  • wow just woke up and this deal has already finished :(

    • +5

get out of bed at a reasonable time then :-)

(apologies if you are a shift worker, but if you were up all night playing wow then its your own fault!)

    • +3

      go back to bed then…

    • It is all a dream. You are ok because you are back to reality :).

    • you were probably awake when the deal started!

    • doesn't help due to the fact that I'm in WA as well :(

    • Lol, with a name like myclock, you should've been the first one to jump in on the deal!! :P

  • anyone bought the items and couldn't claim ?

    • see above. Quite a few. They will likely try to return the things.

  • -2

I woke up at 6am and I started jumping between stores like a monkey. Gladly, bought 9 products for me and my parents :)
Great Bargain, special thanks to the OP :D

EDIT: I got duplicate receipt from OW, so can return the items and get the cashback ? That would be awesome!

    • +1

that would not be awesome, that would be unethical and verging on fraud.

      • Chill out mate :)

    • i think one is a copy look carefully!

    • i don't like you

  • So who (successfully) cliamed the highest amount of money so far?
I have done only (!!) $130 with 4 items, all from Jb HiFi online

    • Its not about highest money since the items are essentially free.

Highest money only meant the $300k went down faster and the fat cat retailers got a bigger cut.

  • $177.84 for 4 products, mainly due to the high price at Dick

    • $109.90 for 2 items at DSE (also due to high prices)

    • $186.81. Also DSE.

      • Got bored, so taking RRP, max price is $299.75 according to my calculation (From DSE where the prices are highest)

        • I paid $240 at DSE for my items, $60 for the cooling pad, $50 x2 for mk250s and headset and webcam @ $40 ea.

It should be illegal to mark up prices like this but what are u gonna do, I actually hit OW first but couldnt find stock of half the items.

    • DS take advantage of this promotion!!! Highest price out of JB hi-fi & OW.

  • Just got a dick smith catalog advertising the cash-back. I bet people are going to look at it and rock up at their convenience for it only to find it is gone.

I suspect logitech knew it would go quickly (perhaps not as quickly as it went but still). I don't think it is an unreasonable promotion at all, however would have liked it if logitech had a no selling higher than RRP clause in the promo (to prevent any overpriced selling; and yes I am aware RRP is overpriced to begin with.)

I think that they left too much time in the promotion (but I guess the extra time allows for cancelled claims to be put back into the money pool).

Still I think it is an excellent way to clear out old stock (however am not sure if it is profitable for the manufacturer, I guess it must be for them to run it)

I for one would like to see future offers from logitech.

    • it's advertising and the actually price of these items are would be lower.
its great advertsing to offer free and get publicity then clearing it at very low prices.
which what they will have to do sooner all later as no one would buy its old stuff!

also other retails does 100% like ambi pur, its just not as highly priced hence doesn't seem like a big deal!

  • I think it's more accurate to see how much stuff people got rather than total cost. This is because, as identified above, for example, DSE charges way more than OW for the same product.

  • Got the new DSE catalog today too, announcing with a huge advertisement this cash back offer.
Ozbargainers are way ahead of the pack on this but think the tide is going to turn PR wise for Logitech once everyone else finds out they can't claim anything.
Still a hugely generous idea, hope they keep doing it (with adjustments)

  • the price you paid is partly responsible for the fast countdown, because it was a 100% cashback it didn't matter what you paid, if Logitech wanted to really spread the love around more evenly they could have made it 50% off, in which case you would shop around first!

the way i see it, logitech will cop a lot of flak on both sides, retailers because a lot of items will be returned, and buyers because many will miss out, i mean, this WAS supposed to run for up to 28 days, but for many, 9am to 1.30pm was too short….now the sad posts…

    • they could have made it 50% off, in which case you would shop around first!

i wouldn't have got any of the items for 50% off as i didn't really need them… I'll use them to replace older stuff, but i wouldn't have paid for them…

    • Agreed! It could have been a bigger discount than 50% off. If it was a 75% or 90% cashback, it would have lasted a little while longer cos some people just wouldn't be bothered if they didn't need it.

I was in the same boat as jv, didn't actually need anything, but picked up stuff I thought my family could use only cos it was free.

      • yep the moment people are required to pay more than nothing for something, their interest exponentially dwindles :)

If it was say 90%, people would have sought better deals and only bought items they may have used.

  • i guess i was the laziest ozbargainer. From day 1 i knewi would be doing my shopping online. Had the items sitting in my cart on officeworks.com.au only 2find out 2day they are out of stock or backorder.

decided to shop around on dicksmith but they didn't have m215's online so got those from jbhififor $19 each. All up:

    2x mk250
    2x m215
    1x n100

    All up $177.00 fully claimed.

All this while sitting at home. Go internet power.

    • -1

hope you get the rebate for the duplicate products…

      • i will because i specifically asked and thanks for your concern.

  • +6

That was fun.. went down at 11 to hardly normal, bargained down the price a bit, then claimed at the net cafe next door. :)then spent the day in the library (mmmm air conditioning)

total cost: $1 for print out of claim form and postage :) (minus cashback of course :P)

    • -1

bargained down the price a bit

      why ???

      • +10

coz we are ozbargainers and want to save some $ for our fellows to have a chance too.

      • for fun? It's great seeing how low they are willing to go, and look at the plus side, more people get hte offer if each person paid less (In my defence DSE was the only store selling these products in my area, no OW/JB etc)

        • Postage cost me $3.55 as I sent it registered post. Don't want it to be "lost in the mail".

      • +3

        Because:
        1) This is Ozbargain, people cant help but bargain even if its 100% cashback
        2) A little less money to Gerry…

        • i got the MK250 from Gerry, he had it for $34, down from $49.95 already…

  • +1

I guess the priority now is for Logitech to inform all retailers that the deal has ran out of money and encourage all staff to alert potential customers before they buy. That will be the best way to prevent people whinging to ACCC which I'm sure will happen anyway.

Unfortunatley that only means that companies will not dare to run promos like these again. So complain, and no one gains anything.

    • I think Logitech stands to gain a lot from the publicity this has generated.

    • "Unfortunatley that only means that companies will not dare to run promos like these again. So complain, and no one gains anything."

how true for the future, but not so for the lucky buggers who snapped up the 300k in record time today!

my figure of 50% cashback was just an example, my point was, at what figure do you think most ozbargainers would still shop around for the lowest price, 60%? 70%? 80% i think @90% most wouldn't be bothered on a stinkin hot day like today(Sydney) and just buy at any price

  • +1

    AWESOME DEAL

  • +1

The longest discussion by far since I've registered. Good job guys :)
I've put a couple of links up in the epic threads thing on the wiki :)

    • number 3 ATM in the records

    • if is lasted a little longer - then surely it would have ovetaken the free mugs deal and the cadbury hack for most positive votes. Damn you Logitech. Damn you to hell

      • It will overtake the mugs. Just a matter of time.

EDIT: On second thoughts… probably not.

        • lol, i was about to say… not many people come to vote on expired deals :P

        • sad face

        • But if you remember the cadbury hack was not beating mugs last I checked (before today) but it got enough votes to beat it sometime after the majority of people left it.

        • idk, mugs is pre-registration/lurking for me :) Although I do remember both of those threads… I guess we'll see..

  • went to DSE as you can reserve the item. so you know when you turn up its there.
didn't really have time to run around and try and find shops which had what i wanted.
espcially in the city things sell out very fast!

they did over charge my friend though was reaserve for $34.95 online and that's what the paperwork said but they charge him $50. he didn't notice was too busy trying to get back to fill in the claim form!

    • I reserved but someone took my cooling pad from out back but they gave me someone elses so it's all good. The other guy reserved like 3 of them anyway.

    • Thanks for alerting me!
The MK250 was reserved for $34.95 (which is more than OW's $34 already). But when I picked up they charged me $49.95!

Lucky this was 100% cash back. But heads up for the future! Check the purchase price vs reservation price!

      Shame on you DSE!

      • +3

I did the same, and they charged me 34.95 as per reserved price of yesterday. And I actually added another 1 for friend in store 5 minutes later, initially they charge 49.95, but after I asked, she agreed to decrease the price to 34.95. I know it's cash back anyway, but it will reduce the risk if we fail to claim, as well as helping more people claim theirs. It's because of outrageous price of DSE (most of prices are double the OW), that many people missed out. How sad.

        • Yeh that's how I looked at it. The shops lifting prices, is just lowering the chances of no. of claims.

Don't really like the practice of raising prices just so they can make more because they know about the promotion. They are getting more sales then they would have otherwise, that should be a bonus. Charging more means less people can claim. They are taking a chunk of the promotion reward that I thought was aimed consumers.

Don't know if it was just DSE or any others, have only read a few posts.
Kudos to the stores that didn't up the prices. Respect to you. You helped more people have a chance.

I didn't bother with this as there was nothing I needed.

  • Took it to south strathfield, they told me it's all finished.

  • Well Done!!!

and a Big Thank you to Flashi007

  • +3

Some douche bought all 11 mk250's at kmart and 4 webcams around 1pm, I just wanted 1. Hope he didn't get home in time to claim them. All up he spent over $500.

    • +1

He had 25 minutes to do 3 claims including the trip home. Doubt he got it in time. Unless he's Broden.

    • +6

      it was broden

  • hi,guys, just wondering i claimed my items in the morning, but i didn't print the claim form because i was using my phone. now i get home, anyone know how can i print the claim form which i couldn't find it. is the email from [email protected] ??? thanks guys

    • yea that's the email its from, i think the info in the email and the confirmation page are basically the same so should be fine - i called them up earlier today and they seemed pretty chilled out about things.
