Decor Thermoglass, Thermostone & Microsafe Range as also ½ Price (Page 33 of the Catalogue).

  • Tried to get this in-store the last time this was half price but the numnut said its full price doh!

Apparently some stores will do this special, some don't.

I found out the reason behind this… Most Woolworths "Metro" stores don't follow the catalogue and won't have all the discounts and specials that the catalogue lists. For getting the deals, you're looking for the "Full" woolies rather than the metro ones.

In Melbourne CBD, all woolies except the one in QV basement are metro stores. You can check on the woolies website and differentiate between the metro and non-metro stores there.

Google maps might also tell you, however I'd take that with a grain of salt.

      • Good to know, ta.

        • Brisbane CBD MacArthur Chambers has this special and stock.

    • This happens to me at Coles with the expensive tuna. I don't even bother to go there any more.

    brilliant product!

I bought one on ozbargain's advice and it is great. Highly recommended.

They don't produce the fine spray aerosols do, I got one thinking I wouldn't have to buy cans any more.
Lots of people recommend them but unfortunately I don't think they are a replacement for the aerosol cans.

    • Haven't used the aerosol can since I got one of these last year. What do you use the aerosol for?

      • Fine coating of a baking tray for vegetables.
Same for a frying pan for a crumbed thigh fillet.

        • +5

Strange… To get a mist I back the bottle back a bit further and squeeze hard. It's not a continuous spray like a can, but it definitely is a mist.

Your second point is nearly exactly how I've been using it a lot lately - to replace spray cans. WW had chicken kiev half price a couple of weeks ago. I've been spraying the bottom of a cast iron frying pan, turn the heat on, put the kiev in in a few seconds later, then squirt a little more oil over the top/sides of the kiev.

Not that a fine mist is needed in a frypan anyway… You could dribble a spoon of oil in one spot, or spray some oil in with one of these, then turn on the heat and the oil disperses over the entire surface.

@GregMonarch: reading care instructions for my non stick pans, a fine mist is not suitable for non stick due to high heat burning the oil. Probably ok for BBQs and cast iron though.

We’ve had a couple of these over the last two years and each one blocked up and stoooed spraying after a while. Tried to run water through but the results were mixed and we just gave up in the end.

Do others have this same problem?

    • +3

Well, you would need to put a detergent to dissolve the oil blocking, right? Probably you tried washing it though

    • Soak it with vinegar?

      • lol I use one for vinegar and it stopped working too. I'm 0/2 on these things. I loved them while they worked though.

I haven't tried washing with detergent though. I'll try that.

    • -1

Nope. I bought it in May 2017, use it at least 4 days a week, and it still works like new.

BTW… At first I was using peanut oil. But switched to rice bran oil a few months ago (because it has even less taste than peanut oil). Maybe the type of oil is why. (Maybe certain types dry/clog easier.)

In regards to blockage, I'd probably just go to the shed and get car degreaser, LOL. Leave the head sitting upside down in a jar of it overnight. Next morning squeeze to see if it clears. If not, back in again and try tomorrow. Once unblocked use hot water and detergent to get rid of the degreaser. (The small trace left would probably still be healthier than eating McDonalds or Dominos once a year.)

      • +2

car degreaser is chemical and can even eat the paint. i'm not sure what would happen if it goes to your body.

      • +1

It could also be that it clogs if you don't use it regularly (>4x/week).

        • Yep regular use must prevent it clogging. But even then it should only block right at the tip, which means it should blast free again at next use.

        • @GregMonarch:
Lack of use causing blocking could fit with my situation: Worked great for a while but may have been when not used for a while that they both stopped working.

But they certainly don't fix themselves next use.

    • +2

Yeah, same problem, it clogs and drips a little bit.

    • I've also had the same issue where it stops spraying. It was good for 3 weeks but then I gave up on using it entirely after the issue emerged.

      • same

I'm surprised that it's worked for ages for some but not others. Quality control or different use cases??

  • +1

    Excellent Product!

    • for some.

      not for long for others

I wouldn’t store Oil in plastic containers even if it labeled as PBA free.

For a few dollar more, you can get a glass one on ebay.

Does it work OK with the old extra virgin? Pretty much my favourite for everyday general use.

    • Depends how old the virgin is

      • also what is the extra part

        • I think its an additional virgin. You have to pay more though.

      • +1

But if used everyday, how can it still be a virgin?

  • +2

I've had two of these, and my experience wasn't good. They both dripped and dribbled everywhere. The bottle itself got very oily and and the spray was thick with big drops. Maybe it was my technique or my weak hands (arthritis)

Anyway, not in the spirit ofozbargain, but I spent a bit more and found a better one. Glass, with a pump pressure system and very fine spray. I got mine from Howard's storage world so probably paid too much, but there are lots available. YMMV.
