  • Hi rep - will we be able to hook this up to a QNAP NAS?

    • Hello DaiShan,

Unfortunately you are unable to hook this to QNAP NAS. Can be used with an external powered USB HDD.

      Hope this helps

      • Thanks rep. do you happen to have a deal on anything that could be hooked up to a QNAP?

"Swann’s True Detect PIR Thermal Sensing technology"

    So PIR.

Not really Swann's is it? Passive infrared detectors all operate on the same principle - detection of temperature motion - as they've always done.

  • is it as good as the $399 system?

    • $399.95 was the price. Today its been discounted.

how do you install these? do these cameras run on battery? Thanks! Complete novice here

    • probably POE mate, but I'm not sure with this system

BNR. Basically a wire for power and a other for RCA connection to the DVR.

      • thanks

      • Hi There,

This systems requires a power adapter. Not POE.

        Hope this helps

        • Hi rep,

Do you have any 8 channel POE deals ? For example SWNVK-875808…

          Thanks

The cameras have a dual lead that runs power to the camera and video signal from the camera. The kit comes with a power pack and a splitter to power up all four cameras from a single powerpoint.

Look at WHAT'S IN THE BOX section here: https://www.swann.com/au/swdvk-444804#

What is the size of aperture for those cameras?

    • +1

You'll need to contact Swann for that…or dig through reviews. Each of the IP cameras on my system cost more than this whole set. I got a killer deal on them but they are only just good enough at 4k (8.3mp) resolution and 24fps. Everyone's situation is different I know but just don't expect a lot from this set for $199. I went through this whole cheap set thing before finally getting it right.

      • I just got this for half price 2 days ago, I knew those to are kind of different, but which one u reckon is better?
        I am bit confused, ta
        https://www.catch.com.au/product/uniden-4-channel-full-hd-ne…

        • What price did you pay? At least it is WiFi enabled.

        • Hard to say as they are quite different systems. One is analogue the other IP.One has wifi for ease of intallation other doesn't. Other has twice as many cameras but comes with no HDD whereas the other does include storage. Pricing is similar..etc…It's personal preference. If you got this for half price, you should flog it, try for a small profit then put the money towards something better that you can expand on later…like an 8 or 16 channel NVR. I went through all this, I bought cheap stuff but at bargain prices so was able to onsell for a profit after realising it was not going to work for me.

        • I paid $125, and I bought 2 sets.

        • @Lps: this one got view angle of 105 degree vs uniden only got 77

        • @jas260: Thanks jas260. Swann's offer gives you four cameras too.

        • @swannstore: So store rep, can you please tell me what is the size of aperture for those cameras?

        • @jas260: Am checking this for you, will get back to you asap!

        • @Lps: hey man, any recommendations for 8 or 16 channel NVR? with superior night vision ability? need at least 2 camera outdoor.

        • @jas260: I tried Swann first then Arlo but wasn't happy. Have Hik now and really pleased - 16 Channel Network recorder now with 12TB storage and 8 x 4k (8.3mp) cameras with 4 more to come. Cams were over $200ea (which is a very good deal for these) so had to buy them 2 at a time. I think the cost so far is $2.5 - $3k but worth every dime. Installation free as I did it myself. The results are on par with any commercial system I've seen, and I've seen a few.

        • @swannstore: Hi Again, the aperture of cameras is F2.0.

        • @jas260: Hi, Check out this system - SWNVK-1675808-AU. Comes complete with eight cameras, expandable to 16 cameras.

      • I just purchase 4MP Hikvision cameras for about $90 to $120 each and setup blue iris box. Downside is some of the cameras firmware cant be updated but doesnt bother me since Im using my own recording software.

        • Any Hikvision models you recommend?

  • How much to install this, the average punter won't/cannot be interested in that part of it

    • Hi There,

      Installation quote varies

      • How many cameras need installing
      • Brick veneer home Vs weatherboard
      • Single story Vs double story
      • Extra cabling required

      I hope this helps

  • Rep, any specials on kits with higher resolution cameras?

    • Hello,

End of May we posted two awesome deals on 5MP & 4K security systems.

      We regularly have deals.

  • These can be purchased elsewhere for around $279 -$300 so the $399.95 must be RRP: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=swdvk-444804

  • the BNC cable length is only 18m probably not long enough for a big house.

    • Well spotted, I missed that. Usually they are 30m cables.

    • Thats true, one of my cameras is on a 30m run

    • Hi there,

You can purchased additional cable to extend the distance.

We sell SWPRO-60MTVF that might be of interests.

Integrated with DC Power Cable for CCTV Video Cameras with BNC Connectors / Double shielded with aluminum foil insulation / DC power cable (tear away) integrated with co-ax.

      Hope this helps

  • I'm interested given the price and complete setup but have heard terrible things about Swann. On Whirlpool they seem to say just go with Hikvision and Dahua - although that may be a little outdated - and newer gear like Netgear's Arlos depending on the usage needs.

    • Arlos seems like a good idea but then you will need to charge the cameras now and then. You are also locked into netgears cloud service. I think they start charging once you go over 5 cameras.

    • I think this system is good value but beware of Swann's reliability and warranty service. About a year ago I bought a Swann NVR system with 4 cameras. 2 cameras have developed faults and the warranty service can be a longish process. I had the first faulty camera replaced after a lot of back and fro and now with the second camera I contacted them via their web site with a detailed description and photos over 2 weeks ago and nothing yet heard back. So I'm quite unimpressed.

      • Sorry to hear about your experience with Swann.

I'd be happy to look into this and fastrack the process if you wanted to forward me your personal details via a private message?

  • So to each camera its one cable to source?

    • Hi there,

Each camera comes with 18m BNC cabling.

      What's In the Box

DVR 4480 4 Channel DVR with 32GB Micro SD Card
      PRO-1080MSB 1080p Cameras x 4
      BNC Cables 60ft / 18m x 4
      Ethernet Cable
      HDMI Cable
      Power Adapter & Splitter
      Mouse
      Mounting Screws & Plugs
      Quick Start Guide
      Theft Deterrent Sticker

  • Gents, can someone help with picking a security system? Got a 3 bed single story house, about 450sqm (including front lawn). Is Arlo better than Hikvision or Dahua or Swan? Can spend upto $1,000. Thanks!

    • Go with Arlo Pro 2, but get an electrician to hard-wire each camera (you would of had to do this with all other choices anyway).

      • +1

There are many cheap options available but if I were you (or anyone serious about security) I'd prioritise expandability. Even if you cant get all the cameras you need now you can add more later as finances permit. At least you'll have a visual deterrent in the meantime. I also have a 3 br house with 8 cameras positioned and there are still blind spots. Thankfully I bought a 16 channel network recorder to which I'll be adding 4 more cameras shortly.

Edit: My recorder is actually 32 channel as each of the 16 has 2 streams, the second of which is lower resolution and therefore lower data for sending via internet to a mobile device

Holy snap! 12 cameras for a 3 bedroom house…. and here I was thinking a cut out poster on top of my Xaomi robot vacuum might be enough to deter people 😅

        • @gdiddy7: They are discreetly positioned so as not to attract too much attention. When you glance at the house you only see 2 cameras

        • thanks. which brand?

      • thanks!

    • Slightly bigger house, similar future plants… Following for some ideas ;)

  • I've got an older usb 2.0 1tb hard drive sitting around the house. Could I use this to record onto?

    • no- has to be fitted internally.

      • Apologies. apparently this one does. support external HDD. the one we had could not.

    • Yes, it can

Rep, Can you do a similar deal on 8 channel system - SWDVK-845808?

    • That's more like it…xtra channels

    • Sorry i'm unable to do any deals on this one just yet.

Rep, please bring back this deal on a 5MP kit : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/381317

  • Hi rep, what's the delivery time going to be like to WA?

    • Hi There,

      4-5 days delivery to WA.

  • Does this need a LAN connection to be internet enabled or does it use wifi? I'm assuming wired..

  • The 'image quality' of the camera is specified as '1080p' yet it does not describe what the image format is.. SDI? Analogue? I am surprised if it is digital at all. Dear Rep, how do you arrive at the 1080p quality, and in-fact what format is the video signal?

Also, I purchased a Homehub for my parents and it is very poor. So many glitches, sensors never stay online, constantly replace batteries. Very poor experience. $500 wasted.

  • Hey rep, everytime I go to checkout it says $0 for shipping until I apply the code, then it says fixed $16 for shipping.. thought it would be free shipping?

  • Hey Rep,

Just tried to use the code, but it says 'Coupon code "OZB444804" is not valid.' Did this get pulled early? Says it expires tonight.
