  • can anybody comment on the quality? looking to consolidate a few VPS's around the world.

    • Have a server with them, no complaints from me at this stage.

  • could anyone comment on what kind of cpu/vcore this is? any kind of single core benchmark you can give?

large difference to getting assigned a virtual intel atom core, compared to a later xeon!

    • Hey,

This deal will only be deployed on nodes using E3-1270v6 processors.

  • also @FlowVPS, do you have any information relating to your infrastructure? Diagrams, peering, hardware etc?

    • Hey,

The network is transit from ColoAU and direct peering on IXAU VIC.

You can see more about the network we use at https://bgp.he.net/AS136557. Prefixes with description Alpha Layer Pty Ltd are ours FlowVPS is a trading name of the company.

      • Thanks mate. What sort of rednancy can we expect for

        a) storage
        b) compute
        c) network

How do you deal with failure?

        • +1

          a) Backups are taken for disaster recovery purposes.
          b) If your VPS stops because of the physical server dying we have processes in place to distribute the VMs running across our infrastructure. This is a manual process however and something has gone very very wrong if this is required.
          c) A backup transit provider is in place if necessary.

never used them, but provider has good reputation on LET forums. though OVH is a better deal imho

    • OVH is $12 + GST ($13.20) for what's $7 - 9/mo here…

That aside, OVH I found felt a lot like over-sold budget servers. The IO was extremely slow and support really didn't want to help resolve it. Ended up doing a charge back through PayPal… This was I believe a Canadian server (so not their Sydney location), but it really ruined my view of them. Also had minor issues with connection speeds (20-100mbps fluctuating), but it didn't cause any problems - just annoying.

FlowVPS I'm yet to have any issues with. The IO speeds are great (as expected from NVMe), connection speeds impressive, responsive support, etc.

      dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
      FlowVPS: 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB, 1.0 GiB) copied, 3.65231 s, 294 MB/s
      Budget Server: 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 20.5319 s, 52.3 MB/s
      OVH: 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 31.4138 s, 34.2 MB/s
Note: The budget server costs <$2/mo. Included for reference of usual IO expectations. Also note others experience higher with OVH, though it's usually only ever similar to the budget server referenced here - you won't see anywhere near the premium 294MB/s mark.

  • Is it possible to specify operating system or are we limited to only CentOS 6.9?

    • +2

There is a drop down option to select other OS's.

      • +3

We also have ISOs available if none of the templates fit your needs ISOs can be loaded in for you via support ticket.

        • So you can load FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE if I request it?

      • +2

Really not sure how I missed that dropdown. Just signed up for a year, this is a great price for something in Australia.

  • OVH has 2 cores, 4GB ram, 60GB SSD and 3TB of traffic/data for $12. But this is hosted in Equinix in Port Melbourne. Decisions, decisions!

    • Personally would go with this one unless you need the traffic. Better IO, better connection, better support (imo). Only downside is the lower data allowances.

  • Good deal. I'm very tempted to add to my VPS collection.

  • Would it be possible to change my current $25/quarter plan to $85/year?

Hey, Submit a support ticket and we'll sort something out.

      • Cheers, submitted a ticket.

No licensed Windows Servers, so a bit outdated for practical use in 2018

  • Hello, is FlowVPS and ExtraVM the same company? As the content seems the same.

  • Disregard. Already answered.

  • what happened to the debian distro? went to rebuild it and it's disappeared.

i must say, its been quite a shaky start. Good speeds but as soon as I run a a "apt-get upgrade" it all falls to pieces and needs a rebuild.

    • Hey,

Having some issues with the Debian template at the moment so it's being rebuilt. When the kernel is upgraded, on reboot it would immediately throw a kernel panic.

If you need any help getting Debian on your VPS via ISO install please open a ticket.

      • Thanks.
