Note that Philips sold the rights to the name for TVs to a Chinese company called TP Vision a few years ago.
Does anybody know how their quality ranks in comparison to other budget TV brands such as JVC (another Chinese company who bought the name from the Japanese company for their budget TVs)?

      probably shit

since I never even heard of TP Vision

At least with hisense, I heard of that brand
      and still wouldn't buy one.

      • since I never even heard of TP Vision

So you don't really know what you're talking about? Philips/TP Vision make some highly quality televisions.

      • Not everything is bad if you don’t know about brand or product … why local retailers sells JVC or other low cost/less known brands? There must be and is a market…

        …anyway this is recent update

“Philips TV 5863 unique integrated LED TV and Bluetooth speaker wins a 2018 Red Dot Product Design Award!

Amsterdam, April 9, 2018 – While we all dream of the latest supersized TV and hi-fi, our actual living space may dictate something on a more modest scale and perhaps require that we must compromise on picture or sound quality – or even both!

Not any longer! The Philips 5863 beautifully integrates a high-quality TV (24” and 32”) and a powerful Bluetooth hi-fi speaker – that can be used either with the TV or listened to independently – into a highly stylish design that has just received a prestigious 2018 Red Dot Product Design Award.

The Red Dot Awards are one of the largest and most respected annual celebrations of product design on the global stage.

Each year, over 5,000 submissions from nearly 60 nations across the globe are tested and inspected by a team of 40 strong, specialized design experts who judge the Red Dot entries for innovation, quality, functionality and ecological compatibility – before awarding the international Red Dot award for the best designed products in each category.”

Isn't the "Red Dot Product Design Award" just one of those 'register and pay a fee and you get one' type of things?
There was 1500+ winners in 2017 of the 'Product Design' category alone: https://www.red-dot.org/search?q&p=0&a=&c=&y=2017&f=product-…

That kinda thing just makes it feel dodgier for me, to be quite honest.

  • Had a look at one on display this arvo. Wasn't expecting too much by way of picture quality and sound but was impressed… Not high end but definitely holds its own against the likes of Kogan and Aldi brands. Can confirm this is made in China.

    The 55 inch was $699.

  • Sharp (used to) make good quality sets at a reasonable price
Quantum dot? Was a better picture than my 200htz Sony , which was reviewed as giving Panasonic plasma a run for its money?

    • Sharp TV is now owned by Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry). Foxconn is well respected in the industry as a quality manufacturer so it would be interesting to see how good their Sharp TVs are.
