ANZ FF:
25K Bonus Points - $2,500 spend in the first 3 months

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months. This offer applies only once per eligible customer.

Personally from reading a lot of credit card's Insurance PDS's recently, ANZ have one of the better complimentary insurance sets for their premium cards. Some other banks cards do have slightly higher payouts in some areas but ANZ's are still higher than others and include more (Interstate Inconvenience, Domestic Rental Excess etc..). Which is more than Westpac Altitude Platinum and Commonwealth Golds. Everything goes through Allianz these days anyway.

  • The Conditions Says
" This is a limited time only offer available through internet banking which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice"

Looks like its for existing ANZ customers who dont have this card, the one on the anz website is the below offer where you get bonus 75K Qantas Points as well as $200 back after your first purchase but you pay the annual fee ($425) and no minimum spend required, only requires one eligible transaction.

    https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/…

    75,000 bonus Qantas Points
and $200 back to your new ANZ Frequent Flyer Black
when you make one eligible purchase in the first 3 months

If you are just after the QF bonus points than isn't this a much better offer than OP's deal, you dont need to spend $2500

    • No, because you have to pay $225 card fee (annual fee minus $200 back)

      • But you dont have to spend $2500 to get the bonus, you only make one eligible purchase and you get both, $200 back and 75k QF points.

        • +1

The $2500 would be part of your “normal” spend. So essentially you’re paying $225 card fee to get the points.

The other deal waived all fees so essentially you’re paying nothing for the points.

        • -7

@Onnzo: The $2500 would be part of your “normal” spend -

No its not, it clearly states the below:

"Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make one eligible purchase within 3 months of approval to receive the bonus Qantas Points and to have $200 credited to your account."

So essentially you pay $425 annual fee plus your one transaction (which can be any amount), by doing this you get your 75K QF bonus and $200 back.

        • +1

          @amshopping:
          You’re missing the point.

Most people would normally spend $2500 anyway. You are getting goods or services for that $2500. You are not spending $2500 that you wouldn’t normally spend.

With the annual fee - you might get a rebate, but you are still paying $225 and are not receiving any tangible benefit from it. It is costing you $225 to get the points with no product/service to show for it.

In both scenarios you get the points. If you don’t normally spend $2500 then the $225 fee might be better for you but your essentially paying $225 for the points instead of getting them for “free”.

        • @Onnzo:
I understand what you trying to say, but there are lot of people wanting to get the bonus points for which they will spend $2500 within 90 days even if they dont need to.

So I am just saying, because there is this other offer where you get your bonus by just spending $225.
And if you have other cards eg amex you can use that for ur $2500 spending where you dont have to
          Spend that in 90 days…

        • +1

@amshopping: why would you want to pay the $225 fee difference when you are going to spend $2500 in 90days on your other cards? Just take up the offer on the minimum spend of $2500 over 90days and spend it on the anz card, your other cards will probably enjoy the break. Then you are $225 better off as you were going to spend $2500 over 90days anyways…

        • @FarQ: Correct, I can get the fee free offer, put my everyday spending on the ANZ card and do the 2.5K spend in 3 months.

The fee hit to my wallet will be Zero (as I will spend no more on life than i normally would have) to earn those bonus points.

Cost per point is therefore $0.

To get the bonus points for the new offer, I will pay an annual fee of $225 (post rebate), cost per point is $0.30 per point.

The only positive with the new deal is that you could have earned more points through spending the 2.5K on a high earning AMEX. if that AMEX earned 1.5 point per dollar then you would earn an extra 1250 points. This reduces the cost per point overall for the new deal to $29.5C per point.

          The old deal wins!!!!

        • -4

@FarQ: why would you want to pay the $225 fee

Because I am not going to spend $2500 in 90 days, nor I will force it to happen. So for me spending $225 and get 75k bonus QFF works out cheaper and am sure it does for others too.

        • @amshopping:

I'm going to step in here and try to make sense.

In this deal a common example of spending the required amount: You can purchase a $2500 fully refundable business class flight for sometime next year. Charge it to the credit card, earn the points and then get the refund a few months after the points have been credited to your Qantas account. Doing it this way means that you literally pay $0 after you get your refund for the 75,000 points, but yes, this does mean you need a spare $2500 to make this happen.

In the current public deal: as you have said you pay $225 and make 1 purchase for the 75,000 points, meaning at the end you are $225 out of pocket no matter what.

Therefore, if you do not have a spare $2500, yes the current public deal is better for you. However it leaves you out of pocket $225. This is as apposed to this deal which leaves you potentially $0 out of pocket if you do it properly (or are already looking at spending $2500). So it is a BETTER overall deal.

        • @Adroso: Just jumping in here, if I was to book a fully refundable flight with Qantas, when I get the refund does it include the credit card processing fee they charge when making the booking?

        • @ArabMoneeey:

Prob Not, and very few airlines will refund you the full fare without charging you the cancellation fee, so your $2500 will be refunded but they might charge you $250 as a cancellation fee, have a safe trip through this route…

A sample of one of the airlines condition

          Cancellation / Refund Allowed
With payment of AUD 260, subject to currency conversion and your bank's exchange rate.

        • +1

          @amshopping:

Some basic research will show you that Qantas has 'Fully Refundable' Business Flex fares. Unlike your no-name airline. This is common practice with most full fare airlines. So i'm not sure where you got your 'few airlines will refund you the full fare without a cancellation fee'.

But seriously, everyone here responding to you is just trying to show you a way (at least in the long term) to save a couple hundred dollars. If you want to go get the other deal because you think its better for you, go ahead, it is less effort but is more money eventually.

          @ArabMoneeey:
This I did not factor, Qantas has a 1.23% Credit card fee, so for a $2500 Business Flex fare you would pay a $30.75 fee, which would not get refunded. Still cheaper than @amshopping's $225 spend.

  • I applied but am worried that they won't honor the no annual fee. What will we do if they charge the fee after we have already had a hit on our credit report?

    • it says on the webpage that you don't need to be an anz customer to apply for an anz credit card. Even though this is an internet banking offer, i would complain that it is their problem of false advertising and then threaten ombudsman. i bet they will credit any fees then…

  • Has anyone been approved yet? Been 3 days for me.

    • Yes I was approved same day as applying, got an sms and email saying cards will be delivered in 3 days.

      • +1

Just got my card, had to call to get them to link it to ny internet banking and she confirmed I am on the offer with no annual fee and 75k points. Thanks OP

        • Were you an existing ANZ customer?

        • @ahaider: Got my card today and spoke to ANZ customer support, as the letter of offer says i have an annual fee. She confirmed no fee and 75k points. I am not an existing ANZ customer.

        • @ahaider: no I didnt have any active accounts but I have held a ANZ credit card in the past. I applied via the OPs link and did not do it through internet banking.

    • I also have been approved, and confirmed the deal myself. I was not an existing ANZ customer.
I'll update the deal since a few people now have said they have confirmation.

  • Wow. My FF black app got declined! Well above the min requirements with a stable job, healthy sum in the bank…Do have an altitude platinum that I can pay off within the required timeframe with no issues…

    Fyi for everyone.
    Not an anz customer
Applied with 64k payg plus 10k rental income.
Wasnt declined.. Got asked for confirmation of payslips etc.

So it wasnt an instant rejection so i guess it means 75k mininum income does not mean payg

    • +1

update, a few sticky questions as I took some unpaid leave earller in the year and income was patchy and they questioned my income,

but just got a sms saying approved for $15k, so im happy as anything

applied for the $35k income ANZ card about 15 months ago and closed after bonus points cleared

so yep, under $75k payg income is definitely not an instant rejection

  • I applied this ANZ QFF Black card last year and got 75K.
The second year annual fees after two months, September.
Do I need to close this card and wait for 12 months and applied again.

    • Yes

  • Could anyone please cofirm if the Woolworths eGift card purchase can be included in the $2500 spending?
I have no issue with NAB and Westpac credit cards last year.

    • Yes this has been a chunk of my minimum spend previously.

      • Thank you!

      • Is this via cashrewards?

  • PSA: Just got a targeted email for bonus double points (ie. 1 extra point per $1 spend) until 14 October 2018.

  • +1

ok, happy as larry, got my card just then , all activated
my first anz frequent flyer black,
so I have no annual fee . $2500 spend to get the 75k, and i get 2 lounge passes
it says points credited within 3 months

    just a few questiions,
when or how do the lounge passes come?
$2500, in hte t/cs cant find it , but are council bills eligible?

    • +3

lounge pass is digital - linked to your qantas account.
      council bills are eligible spend.

      • Can’t see the digital passes in my account yet, does it take some time to appear?

    • Account holders may request no more than two Qantas Club Complimentary Invitations in any 12 month period by calling the ANZ Personal Concierge on 1300 580 765. Qantas Club Complimentary Invitations will then be available via the Complimentary Invitations Portal, provided the account holder is not in breach of the ANZ Credit Card Conditions of Use and the account remains open.

  • I've had the travel adventures card in the last 12 months - anyone know if I'm ineligible for this? T&Cs seem to limit it to the QFF cards…

    • +1

ANZ confirmed I was eligible as I have held a travel adventures card previously as well.

  • has anyone been rejected as it's an old deal?

    • Yep. Several days ago.

      • I got confirmed for the black card but I'm unsure if it will be fee free for the first year.

It seems one poster above called up and got the points and first year waived after receiving a fee in the conditions letter in the mail

Will wait and see. Anyone gotten the card and had first year free/points rejected?

  • Anyone got this recently? Looking to apply for it next Wed after my paycheck arrives reflecting some overtime I did (which would boost my income more above the line for black)

    • Yep got it approved yesterday

  • Does ATO payments count towards $2500 spending target?

    • No, they should not.

That $2500 of "eligible purchases" means $2500 of purchases which are eligible to earn Points, and we find the definition of what's not eligible for points in the "ANZ Frequent Flyer Reward Terms and Conditions" document, under section 23 a) exceptions:
"Points will not accrue in relation to interest charges, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance (ANZ Credit Card Insurance not available for new customers from March 17 th , 2018), government charges, bank fees, payments made to the Australian Taxation Office, card account adjustments resulting from disputed transactions or otherwise, balance transfers, cash advance (as defined in the ANZ Credit Cards Conditions of Use)."

In short, I would not spend a single dollar with the government on this card if you have a better option available (e.g. Amex generally seems to not have this government exclusion when determining if you've made the minimum spend or for earning points).

  • Hello - so do people sign up for this offer and then when its close to the end of the year cancel their credit card to avoid paying the annual fee? Is this how it works? Surely as mentioned this will impact your credit rating?

    • +1

      hi rily001

      in answer to your questions:
      yes, yes and yes

  • Anyone applied recently on this deal ???

  • To anyone who recently got approved, do you by any chance know your credit score from getcreditscore.com.au? I have 520 right now but I'm not sure if that's enough.

I pass the income requirements at least.

  • i've applied and see what happens, the live chat person said its only for ANZ customers so lets see if i get in the mail the annual fee.
probably will complain for them to waive it or else tell them to cancel the card but hopefully not

    • Mine was approved last week, the card and letter have just arrived and it mentions $370 fee + $55 rewards program fee =/
Since it is out of hours, I've sent a mail via the Internet Banking portal, as the person on the phone wasn't able to tell me anything about this promotion.

      • let us know how you go mate, you should be able to dispute this

        • They replied and confirmed that I was part of the promotion, so that's good news for me at least. Cheers.

  • just got this in email
    "
Unfortunately XXX, we are not able to approve your application for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card based on the information you have provided.""

    hmmm

  • +1

Just got charged with $425 annual fee on my ANZ FF Black card. I had to call customer service and they said offer is no longer valid and according to current offer they can only refund $200 as part of current promo.
After much discussion finally had a win and consultant was able to refund $225 fee and remaining $200 would be applied in 3 months time as part of offer.
If you applied for credit card as part of this offer, I would suggest to save the link as its still working

    • +2

That's ridiculous, and I would not accept that if I were you.

I took systematic screenshots throughout the application process, precisely to protect against any bank back-pedalling on agreed terms, as it states very clearly at least 5 times that there is no annual fee:
      * once at the top of the first screen - ("No annual fee in the first year").
      * once in the small print of clause 16 on the first screen ("The total annual fee and any additional cardholder fees and rewards program fees applicable to additional cardholders on the account, will be waived for the first year")
      * once in big font at the beginning of the application form ("No annual fee in the first year")
      * once in the small print at the beginning of the application form (same text as per clause 16 above)
      * once in the summary of your application ("No annual fee in the first year").

If they want to try charging me an annual fee, then I will smack them around the head repeatedly with the ombudsman. It's not complicated: the above statements form part of the agreement you both entered into, so they need to charge what they said they would charge - i.e. nothing.

Disclaimer: applied around 13 July, others are reporting above that for applications from 18 or 19 July they may seem to be running into issues with being charged the annual fee, so possibly they removed the annual fee part? Nope, just checked the web page, and the first 4 of the above "no annual fee" statements are still there (I'm not checking the summary one as don't want to redo the application). So save screenshots now as evidence, then make a complaint and escalate as necessary until it's resolved.

      • good advice my friend.
i joined ANZ as a customer and still have this in my 'internet banking' page even though people have reported mixed results without having to join, i did this just in case.

  • Newbie question: Can someone please explain how the Qantas Club lounge invitations work? So we call up the phone number, get the 2 passes added. If I understand correctly they're now digital (linked to the Qantas Frequent flyer account), rather than physical bits of paper. Then I can cancel the credit card, before flying. Do the 2 passes then still stay on the Qantas Frequent Flyer account for 12 months until they expire, or do they now disappear because the card was cancelled? And at the lounge entry, do they physically check that I still have this credit card and that it's active before allowing entry into the lounge? Basically there's a 60% chance that I may fly Qantas or Jetstar some time in the next 12 months, but a 100% chance that I'll reach the minimum spend in a few days, so just trying to understand how these lounge passes work, and what their utility is when the flight is in the future and hypothetical at this point.

    • im going to base my experience with westpac and assume it should be something similar with ANZ as they have the 2 qantas lounges as well too.

Basically there should be a "register" option with ANZ to register for the passes and you must do this before you buy the jetstar/qantas flights. Pay with your CC FF card and then later on you will receive the passes in the mail (physical ticket paper). They don't check your credit card, they only check that you are doing on a qantas flight when you show the passes at the lounge.

      • Thank you. I think the Westpac card has a requirement of some spend through the Mastercard with Qantas (buying the tickets themselves seems the most straightforward, although points top-up is another option). However as best as I could see, the ANZ card does not have any spend requirement with Qantas, only that you're flying later that day on Qantas or Jetstar (which may well be a Qantas requirement rather than an ANZ one), and call up their number beforehand to request the lounge passes. How chronologically this works is a mystery to me - e.g. do they validate your ticket details when sending out the passes? Or is it just "yeah fine, here are your passes"?

Also it looks like with ANZ they're digital passes now - "ANZ Frequent Flyer Black - Redeeming your lounge passes: Account holders may request no more than two Qantas Club Lounge invitations in any 12 month period by calling the ANZ Personal Concierge on 1300 580 765. Qantas have recently changed the method by which customers receive the lounge passes. These are now uploaded to your Frequent Flyer account in digital form."

Also just found that there's an FAQ at the bottom of this page: https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/using/using-fre… … the bit about needing to be linked to a flight concerns me, but then it says "can be linked". Maybe the best way is to get the passes (picking a random Qantas flight 12 months in the future), then transfer them to a family member, then cancel the card?

    • +1

You don't get "passes", you get "invitations". You link the invitation to a flight and access the lounge using your boarding pass for that flight. It doesn't have to be linked until you want to use it.

      • Thank you! Do you know if the passes vanish when I cancel the card, or when I've got them I've got them? And do the passes expire (e.g. after 12 months), or do they last indefinitely?

        • +1

It’s not linked to your credit card. It’s linked to your QFF so it will vanish if you cancel your QFF.

          Normally 12 months from issue.

        • +1

They expire 12 months from date of issue. You really should read the proper web page for this product rather than the outdated one from this (hack) deal: https://www.anz.com.au/promo/personal/credit-cards/frequent-…

I don't know about ANZ specifically but I haven't heard of stories about banks retracting lounge invitations. I believe QFF points get retracted in the case of a purchase refund. Not too far a leap that banks could have the option of doing the same for lounge invitations. Hate to be the first for that to happen to.

  • How long does it take for the 75k point to be in the account?

    • Don't know the exact timeframe, but by way of indicator, the Qantas points for the first statement (1 point for $1 spent) arrived the day after the statement was paid. So the absolute earliest date is probably the business day after you pay the statement in which you've reached the minimum eligible spend. But clause 16 includes: "The bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your ANZ account within three months of the eligible spend criteria being met", so that should be the latest date. So sometime within the range of those 2 dates, but as to exactly where, that's really up to ANZ and their business process (e.g. it could require managerial sign-off, or they may have a deliberate delay built-in for reversed/disputed transactions).

  • I just ordered by lounge passes today. Does anyone know how long they take to show up in your account, and where do I go in my account to find them?

  • so i did the ANZ savings account and then restarted the application and its been approved.
should get my card next week and i've screen shot all the information just in case they try to pull the annual credit card fee on me
