Would have a deal if I could still stack with AMAZON20. Ah well

  • The one with Free 3G is $50 more

The 3G is only usable for downloading books you buy from Amazon AFAIK

      Probably not worth the extra.

      • I think it's worth it if you read alot
I hate having to turn on/off the wifi everytime I want something to sync/download

        • -2

3G would presumably use more battery than just wifi so youd have the same problem.

The old model (can't recall the name) that first came out with 3g had an experimental browser on it that allowed you to do basic web browsing . Whilst not a end to end solution for browsing the web while abroad it was very handy to get a booking code from gmail when roaming sim didn't work. Not sure if this new model still has that or not.

Woah that's awesome.. Basically turns it into a hitchhikers guide to the galaxy!

        • +2

Still exists but is "locked down" to only Amazon and Wikipedia on 3G. It's not terribly difficult to bypass it seems, but a bit of a pain (need to follow links until you get to Google) and probably something you'd only do if you really had to like in your case.

      • Thanks for the explanation, I ended up getting the one for $129.

  • Paperwhite the best middle of the road model?

    • +1

Yep, cheap, reliable and the backlight is probably what makes an eReader - you can use it at night without needing a light.

    • Depends if you ever read at night - e.g. my wife reads at night pretty often so she likes it. I only ever read it on the train, so for me, the backlight wouldn't be all that useful.

    Don’t forget cash rewards

  • About to get it. Any other codes i can stack this with?

    • Yes, been holding off to buy because of the price, would like to know if there are codes to help getting it cheaper.

It was a bargain at $159 considering how much use I’ve gotten out of it, highly recommend at this price. FYI you can put Ebooks downloaded legally from project Gutenberg on it ;)

  • I havent got my 10 dollar voucher from amazon prime video thing. Should i wait to use it? Should i contact amazon via chat?

    • I think the voucher is an option that comes up when you go through checkout.

You'll be asked if you would like to use the credit or something.

As a kindle owner, I highly recommend getting a cover with magnet (doesn't have to be the official one). Besides protecting the screen, it also allows you to sleep/wake the kindle just by opening/closing the cover, which is much easier than the lock/unlock button.

  • Countdown seems to be not working for some items…Dafuq Amazon?

Oh nevermind. Starts at, not in.

Not anything like as good as the KOBO H2O, but def a better price.

    • I got my Kobo H20 for $199 from JB Hi-Fi. It's great, with it's Web browser, back-light, no glare from screen, ability to read PDFs, and also ePub files (which the Kindle devices cannot read).

Manage books, covert from one format to another, download covers, heaps of features, but I mainly use it for the first two, no more limited to mobi.

Gotta love morons who have never seen a KOBO voting down the obvious truth :-) #typicalozbargain

Not up to date with kindle. Is this the latest model?
