15% off Google Play eGift Cards @ PayPal Digital Gifts eBay ($50 and $100 Cards)

2680

I saw this posted earlier then marked as "Unobtainable deal" but I have gone through the checkout process and completed the transaction:

15% off both $50 and $100 Google Play gift cards on Paypal's own digital gift card page.
This is directly from Paypal on their official page - not a 3rd party.

mod: If there is a problem with this mark as expired and leave comments open so we can know why it is "Unobtainable".

Received confirmation email from eBay for transaction:
"Your order is confirmed and will be delivered in a separate email, typically within a few hours of purchase."

Don't forget cash back (if it applies to gift card purchases)

I miss the days when I could use my Telstra credit to buy stuff from Google play store. Hope they bring similar back.

    • They won't be able to the "fake money" is gone now :/

    • +4

      RIP: Prepaid Cap Encore!

    • +9

It's over? Makes me feel better.. I've been kicking myself for about 5 years for not being on that plan. I'm pretty sore and bruised by now.

    • Just curious — I did once use an Android app that partially paid you back via paypal. Now my Apple ID keeps getting locked (ok just twice in two weeks). At first I ignored the "acccount locked" emails, but now dialogs are popping up in iTunes. So I reluctantly reset my awesome password.

Question: By converting Google Play Telstra dollars to AUD, did I have my Apple ID flagged as a 'hack target'?

      • What was the app called?

    • +1

Yea those were the good days, I made my own app for the credit I didnt use up on apps/subscriptions

  • +3

Seems to be fine now, they must have just had issues this morning when I posted :)

    • +1

Yeah sorry couldn't even see who posted originally - it was cached in my RSS feed and that is why I decided to try it.

      • +1

No worries at all lol, thank you heaps for posting it again!

  • +1

Unsurprisingly, it does not stack with PENNY5.

Can you pay for youtube premium with google play credits?

    • +1

      i think so

      • +2

I can via Google Play Music - you set your primary billing as "Google Play Balance" and you can set a backup card for when it runs out.

This gets you youtube premium and I think you should be able to do the same for new members.

      • I can't find the option/link to let me do that

        • +5

In Google Play Music at least:
          Expand the menu
          Go to Settings
          "Update Payment Method"
          Tick "Google Play Balance"
It will prompt you for backup method, select one if you want.

        • +3

          @leyton01:
ah it seems first you must have at least some money in your google play account, otherwise the option is "hidden". that's why i didn't see it at first. got $0.10 there and it showed up.

    • yep, thats how I do it.

it brings the family plan for those on the old $18/mth -> $15/mth.

      • Google play music + Youtube premium for $15 / month? Can you explain how to do that? Mine shows 17.99/mth…
Would very much appreciate your help!

        • Effective discount?

        • The actual price has dropped to $15.99/mth, with 15% off, you actually pay 13.60/mth
          https://imgur.com/a/d90xRPO

        • +1

@katsuya: $17.99 is old family music +YouTube Red, new prices (as per your pic) does not include Google music.

    • Yes. I do/have. Just. Go into your account settings

    • Yes, you can.

  • +3

Delivered already - took 11 minutes.

    • +2

Done guvvament….are they applying GST to time now!? (edit…and..coincidentally…I posted this 11 minutes after you…it's very suspicious!).

      • no GST on credit, you pay it when you spend

        • +2

I think you missed the joke.

        • +2

          @kulprit: yep….oooops

Is paying by credit card to buy this gift card considered as cash advance?

    • In the checkout it said CC payment wasn't an option (for me anyway), not sure of that helps you though..

    • I've been using Amex to pay for Woolworths Wish gift cards and Prezze many times. Just paid for this Google gift card, was charged $85.

If it's considered as Cash Advance, will the fee be issued in the next statement?

      • +1

I doubt gift cards are cash advance since they aren't cash

        • My CC says,,

cash advance means any transaction treated by us as a cash advance,
including transactions where you or the additional cardholder:
          • draw cash from the card account using an automatic teller machine or at a financial institution; or
          • receive from a merchant a cash substitute (including, but not limited to, using the card account to purchase gambling chips or tokens, traveller’s cheques or money orders, or to load value to a stored value card or facility); or
          • use the card account to purchase lottery tickets (or scratchies);
          • use the card account to pay bills over the counter at a financial institution; or
          • transfer, or arrange for the transfer of, funds from the card account to another account.

    • No with Amex, but most likely yes with other Visa/Master cards.

  • can you use ebay giftcards to pay?

    • +5

I had $3.40 left on a gift card but it wouldn't allow me to use it on this item.

  • +5

If I knew 20% off google play would be so rare, I'd stock up lot more when coles was doing it

    • +1

Same here. Only got $150 worth. If I knew would of stocked up $300+

      • +4

I picked up $500. Took forever to put them through the checkout though.

      • +1

what do u guys spend $150 on?

    • +1

It used to be more common - has been rare for the last couple of months

  • I can't pay using credit card - it's greyed out and paypal doesn't work - I sign in and it comes up with an error message.

    • I got an error related to PayPal "gifting" settings but it still let me purchase once I logged into PayPal

    • Currently speaking to tech support - i hope i don't miss out.

      • Still not fixed after 18 hours….

        • Finally fixed! But no email from the CSR! Bad customer service.

Purchased, now waiting for the voucher.

        • @brisdaz: voucher received and successfully redeemed.

    • Do you mind sharing what your issue was? I have been having major problems with buying it. Today error message I have is
"Sorry, this payment option isn't available. Here are your options:
Contact PayPal Customer Support to resolve this issue."

Yesterday it limited my account. Due to the suspicion that my account was stolen. I have 2 factor login on did the codes multiple times yet complained nope wasn't me. :S

      • Don't know what the issue was. Contacted eBay support and they escalated it to tech support and finally fixed it after a few days.

  • +1

can these be used against youtube red account which is a recurring billing cycle each month?

    • +5

      Yes

  • The Terms & Conditions in the eBay listing page states "Card value expires on the later of 5 years following the date of: (1) card issuance, or (2) last activity on Google Play stored value account to which the card is redeemed". However, it states only TWO years in the Gift card order and claim email received from PayPal.

In the Claim page on PayPal, it states 2 years, but this link says 5 years https://play.google.com/intl/ALL_au/about/card-terms.html

Anyone knows which one is correct? as I want to buy some more, hence needs long validity.

    • +3

rules in australia were updated in end of 2017 to stipulate that in NSW at least, you need at least 3yrs on gift cards before the value expires.

So perhaps Paypal are just using some old terms and conditions and haven't updated it.

    • interestingly in the page description it states "There’s no credit card required, and balances never expire." - yet once it is claimed: "Card value expires on the later of 5 years following the date of: (1) card issuance, or (2) last activity on Google Play stored value account to which the card is redeemed."

      • "(2) last activity on Google Play stored value account to which the card is redeemed"

Does above sentence mean if the account is inactive for 5 years, the credit will expire? Or in other words, as long as your account is active, the credit will never expire?

        • Google only knows…

    • +2

I bought and redeemed it to my account earlier. No expiry noted once redeemed.

Had a chat with Google and confirmed there is no expiry.

  • Sorry too late folks - all sold out!

    • Sorry $50 still available!

      • Hmm Restocked. That was quick!

        • +3

well, they are essentially unlimited supply ;)

    • $100 back in stock

  • Hey, can anyone explain what I can use these gift cards for? Can I purchase something from ebay or amazon via paypal with these? Sorry I'm a noob when it comes to extreme bargain-hacking.

    • +3

Cheaper netflix (if you have an old account), google play music, youtube premium or apps.

cheaper subscription to dating apps, tinder,

      Microsoft office 365 subscriptions etc.

      • +2

I read that you can't pay for subscriptions like Netflix etc ..

        https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6080850

        Anyone can confirm/deny?

        • +1

I still have my ultra hd subscription from the Telstra encore days using Google wallet. It still charges me $14.99 for the premium plan! Knock wood.

        • I also have Google Play Billing for Netflix from Telstra Credit days.

        • @scubacoles: really? Mine stopped end of last year. so you cant use these gift cards to pay for netflix?

        • @lonewolf:
Netflix don't have any other payment details in order to bill us any other way than via Google Play Billing.
So we're either getting free Netflix, or Netflix is still charging us through Google Play Billing on my wife's account.
Obviously we can no longer pay for Google Play Billing from Telstra Credit, but recharging the Google Play Account balance with discounted Gift Cards is still possible.
Can't say that I've checked if money is actually coming out of her account each month though.

    • Google play music is what I use mine for.

    • +3

They're for anything that's on the Google Play store
      - Apps/Games
      - Youtube/Google Music Subscriptions
      - TV/Movies
      - Books/Mags
      - In App Purchases (including App subscriptions)

so no ebay/paypal/etc only Google Play store stuff.

      • sorry can't do netflix anymore

        • Not true if you set it up using a VPN. May need a new Netflix account. Pick a country that allows Google Play billing for Netflix like Hong Kong (as of December 2017) and you can pay for Netflix with Google Play credit

        • @kerfuffle:

You know if that's still an option? From the T&C's here -> https://help.netflix.com/en/node/42851 it looks like it's not available anywhere any more?

        • @kudoz: Guess you're out of luck then; I set mine up in January.

    • +2

mobile online games, i spend money monthly

  • Can anyone confirm if there is expiry date on Google Play balance once redeemed to your account?

    • +1

Card value expires on the later of 2 years following the date of: (1) card issuance, or (2) last activity on Google Play stored value account to which the card is redeemed.

    • +1

I can't see expiry date anywhere but once redeemed it would be 5 years after inactivity on your account as per above T&C's from willx:

"5 years after last activity on Google Play stored value account to which the card is redeemed"

      • +1

5 years according to google and 2 years from paypal, if redeemed that would be Google's time limit.

Great deal, will be able to pay off that ATO debt they rang me about the other day.

    • +9

When the ATO called me they said they only accept iTunes cards

      • +1

        Western Union

      • +2

I just called ATO, all G they now accept Google Play gift cards

  • -3

Why not just buy discounted telstra starter packs and put it on long life plan? Surely that still works for telstra credit and is better than 15%

    • +1

Long Life changed slightly a few months back. As a result you can no longer use Credit to pay for google stuff on the new offer :( Meanwhile thanks op bought $100 to pay off Google Music/Youtube Music/Youtube Red for the next 6 months or so :)

  • Wish I could use these at the Google store. Need one more Google WiFi unit.

  • Kind of piggybacking off this active post (+ irrelevant) but i thought ozbargainers would be more knowledgeable:

Does anyone know how many eBay gift cards you can use in a month? T&Cs say $1500/month but has anyone gone over this? Cheers

    • $2,300 so far this month and still going.

      • thanks i messed up, read the american eBay T&Cs. Aussie one is still $5000 :)

      • What on earth ru spending 2300 on using play credits??? (and we're only mid month!)

… If u dont mind me asking

        • Ebay cards not Play credits (yes we are OT).

Camera gear and that QNAP deal. The 25% off ebay deal is too good to resist. I've worn my nail down scratching ebay gift cards but that extra 5% off makes it all worth while.
Cash Rewards -> eGift cards -> ebay card = profit.

        • @Gman:
oh yess misread, thought it was 2300$ in play credits!!!
          nice saving indeed

        • @SmiTTy:
No problemo, I know what it's like posting late at night.

$2k+ on Google Play would be pretty hard to achieve. There is only so many I am Rich apps you can buy.

  • +1

Thanks OP! I'm now able to justify my Hearthstone pre-order. With this $100 and my $22 credit I've been saving up for years of Google surveys.
